Can't really track global shipping program - Frustrated

I do not like the global shipping program.  It's ability to track items is seriously flawed.  I live in a rural area and do not get ANY deliveries other than post .  Here is my experience:

I bought an item in the US shipped through the ebay shipping program.  I get an ebay tracking number, and a USPS tracking number.  The ebay tracking number doesn't tell me much about when to expect it.  The USPS number says the item is being sent expedited, and will arrive in two days.  When I update this number, in two days, the status shows it is being delivered.  It was only delivered to the centre in Erlander, Ky.  It sits there for several days.  I have no idea who has it, or what is happening.  If I check the other link (USPS) the only information that it was delivered, which doesn't tell me much or where or how it is being delivered.

The global shipping number can't be tracked outside of ebay, and the domestic shipping number is only for USPS, and shows it as delivered.

I have to logon with different devices, as different devices show different details.  None shows what carrier the item is being transported with, or when the actual realistic delivery date is.  A week wide guess really doesn't cut it.  I don't know if it is being shipped by mail, courier, or by an old guy who is now looking for my house on foot.

Finally, if I go in with one device, I get a link to the fact that this is supposedly being shipped by CanPar.  However, when I click on the hyperlink, I get taken to Canpar and told that that item can not be found.  This has been the case for several days.  I also got an email notice that Pitney Bowes (Ebay shipping) has prepared a delivery label for my through Canada Post.  But no parcel has arrived at Canada Post with that delivery label on it.

I want the ability to know WHO is shipping my parcel, and what the tracking number is ON THEIR SYSTEM.  Why does Ebay obfuscate this information?  And why does the information depend on what device  you are using to retrieve it.  Right now if I go to the Ebay site on my Win8 computer running Chrome, I do NOT get anyway to access the Canpar tracking number (even if it is apparently not correct).  The domestic shipping information that I get on this computeris a week old, and still shows that the package was delivered by USPS!  However, if I use the Ebay APP on a IPad, I get the Canpar information.  If I use the ebay App on a smartphone, I cannot access ANY domestic shipping information.

I need to know who has it because if it is not being sent by CanPost, the courier will not be able to deliver it due to my rural location, and will also have no way to contact me as I do not have a listed phone number.  This is simply dumb.

EBAY!  WHO HAS MY PARCEL AND WHY WON"T YOU LET ME KNOW THIS AND TRACK IT PROPERLY!

This program. It cost nearly $30 for this **bleep**, regular mail would have been faster and cheaper. Sorry sellers, if you use GSP, I will not be buying from you. I would much rather my items go from point a (seller) to point b (me) with as few re-routings and changing of hands has possible. So far my parcel has been sitting in the US for a week, with two different carriers. It will likely change hands another 2+ times before arriving, and my estimated date of delivery is 3 weeks after purchase. If it had been mailed directly to me via USPS, it would have been half the price (or less) and in my hands after a week and a half. This program is expensive garbage for Canadians, maybe 'global' customers have more luck.

myoldstuff was posting in November of 2015

The GSP plant is still in Erlanger KY.

Your purchase was tracked by USPS to KY but from there the tracking in internal and not easy to find.

I will attach, yet again, the tracking method information.

BUT

Your parcel is not in Erlanger,

It's on a truck and may already be in Canada.

Tracking is a SELLER PROTECTION against phoney claims of non-delivery. All it does for the buyer is drive her crazy when it slips.

If you are not home when Canada Post tries to deliver, the carrier will leave a Notice in your mailbox telling you where and when your parcel can be picked up. Usually that is the Postal Outlet the next day.

Another poster worked this out for buyers who have not yet received their GSP shipment.
TRACKING SYSTEM FOR GSP
It's not user friendly... But I found how to track your package via the global shipping program, once it gets to Canada you need to:
- Log on to eBay.ca
- Under the My eBay menu select Purchase History
- Under your orders find the specific order.  It should have something like the following:
Estimated delivery Mon, Jan 11 - Thu, Jan 21
        Tracking number: Tracking number UPAAB000000#########
- Click on the UPA number.  This should open up a Shipment Details window, which should contain something like this:
This shipment has been transferred to CPC for delivery to the final destination # 70351#########
-Click on the Canada Post number to see where the Canada Post Tracking history and expected delivery

To add my few cents ...

This thread made me concerned about my inbound GSP shipment ... but I found the concern to be unwarranted.

To the contrary, I am quite impressed and happy with my first experience with the Ebay Global Shipping Program.  I purchased a heavy A/C compressor for my car for $200 + $30 shipping ($15 for the base shipping fee, plus $15 for GSP taxes and fees, etc.).   All charges and fees were clearly stated up front, prior to purchase.

Other (non GSP) sellers with the same product had shipping rates ranging from $40 to $80 (or would not ship to Canada).

The seller shipped from Pennsylvania to GSP in Kentucky, which took 2 business days.  It then took 3 business days for the second shipment from Kentucky to Vancouver.  While in transit, I received clear email communication when the package was (1) sent from the seller, (2) received by GSP and (3) shipped from GSP.

Each email included a link to package tracking, which showed the current location of the package.  I didn't need to chase down tracking numbers for other carriers, since all the information was presently clearly and coherently in one place.

When the package arrived, there were no extra fees to be paid.  The product was well packaged, with no signs of internal or external damage.  To be honest, my first thought was "wow, it's here already!?".

All told, $30 shipping for a heavy auto part, delivered in 1 week is excellent!

I will be using this service again.  This was much easier (and cheaper) than driving to Blaine for package pickup, which I what I was expecting when purchasing auto parts.

Your experience is with one of the (sadly few) instances where the GSP seems to work quite well, which is with heavy or bulky items that can ship as freight from the Global Shipping Center to Canada for less than the cost of a parcel sent by mail or courier.

Shipment weight was 15 lbs, so I may have overstated "heavy", and the box about 1 ft cube.

It was UPS from Penn to Kentucky.  From Kentucky to Mississauga, I'm not sure of the carrier, but I assume USPS.  Then Mississauga to Vancouver via Canada Post.   So, I don't think this was freight, or an unusual carrier.

Tracking details:

If you still have the box for your item, check the shipping label.  You'll probably find that it has a Canadian return address (that may be able to be traced to a logistics firm) and no customs information.   This would suggest that it wasn't shipped by USPS but as part of a larger freight shipment and that it went through customs as part of that larger shipment.

I am having the same problem this Pittney bowes service really sucks according to the tracking numbers I have my parcel has been bouncing arround the USA and now canada for 3 weeks now and still I have no parcel it would've been faster sending it by horse and buggy for heaven's Sakes in the past all the seller had to do was go to their local post office and package it and send it usps nternational shipping and it would take a week at most for it to arrive not 3 weeks and still God knows where but not where it's supposed to be

All that being said, if your item has not been delivered by the last estimated delivery date given to you by eBay, open an Item Not Received Dispute in the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page.

The first suggestion is to contact the seller. Do this as a courtesy, but let the seller know that this is a Global Shipping Program problem and should not directly affect him.

Then escalate to a Claim.

Tell the Claim that this is a Global Shipping Program claim.

If necessary, phone eBay and ask for a GSP specialist. (Pee first, find a comfy chair, bring a good book and a beverage while you are stuck on Hold. )

Can't really track global shipping program - Frustrated

Today I have been trying to find a GSP package that according to eBay tracking was out for delivery. After 5:00 pm I received an email stating "We are writing to inform you that the carrier has made an initial delivery attempt and has left you a note with additional instructions"   however there was no note left and I set about trying to find out who has this package, no carrier was shown nor was there any tracking number. As the email had a link to contact customer service I set about trying to find the appropriate topic to initiate a request for information on where to look for this package, "I didn't receive an item" seemed like the only logical choice and from there an option " Track a package"  this tracking provided a CPC tracking number that does not show up when you follow the link from an email to track a package and from this I was able to find the package.

I hope eBay will take the minimal effort to fix this issue and provide the appropriate tracking information to it's customers. This clearly shows the information is readily available just the choice has been made not to include it in the tracking info that the emails lead us to. The Global Shipping Program is a valuable tool as it provides reasonable shipping rates and taxes etc are all shown up front. Anyone who has looked at a purchase from the USA to be shipped to Canada can attest to the fact that usually the shipping cost are completely outrageous and without this program the purchase would not be made.

Please eBay don't let a relatively minor problem destroy an otherwise solid program, I can live with a bit of a delay and even not being give a specific target date for delivery but please show us the courtesy of knowing what carrier is in charge of our products and provide us the simple tools to find out where it is.

My hypothesis is that Pitney Bowes--who operates the Global Shipping Program--has all this tracking information at its disposal, but there are IT issues that prevent much of it from getting transmitted to eBay's antiquated system.

I suspect that the message that you got about your item's non-delivery is a pretty standard one that covers a variety of carriers and there isn't an option to display a message to the effect that the carrier will simply be trying again another day.

Having said that, the tracking information says the item isn't delivered, and that's borne out by the fact that you don't yet have your item.  How would knowing the location of your item help you?

This was excellent information. I called the Pitney "1-866" number that was supplied in the #4 post on this thread.  I gave them my global UPAA number. They were able to give me the LDXXXXUS tracking number that I could then use for Canada Post. Why this number isn't provided in the tracking details from the outset is beyond me, but this was a great solution.  I went on the Canada Post site and entered the LDXXXXUS number and it worked perfectly. Thanx so much!!

I've been provided with almost daily tracking updates for my recent GSP purchase.

This included a private message from the seller sending me a USPS tracking number for the segment to Erlanger, Ky.

Then I got the GSP tracking number through eBay messages, and further messages of the item's arrival, in Erlanger, then news that it had been scanned, that it had cleared customs .....that it was on its way to Chicago .... all with breathless excitement these messages say "Important info about your recent purchase".

LOL, and now this AM I have another  message telling me my item is in Canada and will soon be here.

HELP! I'm drowning in tracking info!

I personally havent had any issues with the global shippimg program. ebay sends me updates on the tracking activity .I live in a small place in New brunswick canada and have had no issues. There was one time Something I had boight had said the final destination was kentucky when USPS was involved and i inquired right away but i later learned the global ship center was just down as the first destination and then would send out to me from there. which it did.. i always got my packages rather quickly delivered to my door. I see all the tracking history through ebays update email links. I normally order car parts This one i am currently waiting for is 2 control arms with the ball joints. My personal experience has been good so far.

Thanks for that info.  There have been quite a few posts from worried buyers who have said they have not received their items when the tracking information has stated that the item has been "delivered to [their] door" and I'm wondering if they're basing this on the tracking information that states that the item has reached its "final destination".

Unfortunately, we don't get follow-up postings from these buyers to know if this is actually the case.

This program is completely stupid and only at the advantage of Ebay. Customers and sellers are screwed.

A product that should take 3/4 days to get from Philly to Montreal now took 11 days and went ALL over North America to get here.

Yes, GS charges DO show before committing to a purchase, but you must be logged into your own location/local ebay account. For instance, I live in Nova Scotia Canada.  While I may like to shop on ebay.com because of more variety, unless I take that item number over to ebay.ca and log in on that site, I WILL NOT SEE the charges appropriate to my country.
