Questions about the Global Shipping Program

This is a reply from yesterday's chat.

Question 7 If a seller misuses the GSP process by sending the item direct to the buyer by post, a not infrequent occurrence, will there be a route for the buyer to reclaim the money paid to the GSP but never used for shipping or import charges.

Yes, if the seller has sent the item directly to the buyer (bypassing our UK Shipping Center) the buyer will be able to contact our Customer Support to claim for a refund of the international shipping and import charges

This was the UK GSP team talking but it should be similar forthe US GSP. In theory you need to phone the US Customer servce and say it is a GSP problem. You will then be put through to a GSP specialist.

Many people would be interested to know how it works out for you.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

"After a while, though, it may occour to more and more people that the only way they are going to avoid being massively out of pocket is to lie about the reason for the claim."

And ebay through their ridiculous GSP rules are in no way helping. They are almost begging buyers to do this, as it seems to be the only way buyers are not out of pocket for something out of their control.

Now I have even less incentive (never had much, but it was slightly greater than 0) to use the GSP program.

And I noticed one of the answers to your questions was that there is no quick-click function in resolution center.

Wonder how much time buyers will waste trying to get through by phone...

The one thing you can be sure about is that it will be a lot more time than they wanted to waste.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Hi,

I have a question concerning the global shipping.

I purchased a package on ebay and was shipped out of US to Canada on Nov 7th. I was supposed t receive the package no later than Nov 25th as per ebay estimated delivery date, when I check the global tracking number it states that package is in transit. Is it normal that the latest arrival date (Nov 25th) has passed and I have not received the package yet?

Thanks

Louie

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

i am getting a bit frustrated with the GSP and american sellers that chatge the cost of sending to canada and the gsp then does the same. I now dont buy from us unless I cant find it any were else. Any suggestions on how to deal with these apart from not working with them at all?

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Nope.

That's about it.

Remember that PB/GSP must charge applicable Canadian duty and taxes and adds a $5-ish service charge. UPS and other couriers must charge applicable Canadian duty and taxes and add a $25 and up  service charge.

Canada Post and CBSA have decided that, although they are also supposed to charge applicable Canadian duty and taxes , it is silly to collect these when it costs them more in labour and paperwork. Sensible really.

If you are buying an item priced over $100, include GSP items in your Search. Canada Post will charge duty and tax on those and their service charge is $10. You may find the GSP item is less expensive than others.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

GSP is a scam, Ebay and Pitney Bowes are pocketing thousands of dollars every day off this arrangement.

I'm waiting for a class-action suit to be filed, I assure you I will be first in line to sign up!

I've also sent an email to Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, making them aware of the money Pitney Bows is pocketing instead of giving it to them

as they state, good luck with that, ROFL!

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Has anyone had any success getting US sellers to ship to Canada without using the ridiculous Global Shipping Program? I no longer will buy from US sellers because of this policy. My eBay buying is down by 80%. If the product is coming from the US, I don't even bother looking at the listing. I have to admit that the local retailers are loving it because I've just spent over $1800 on Christmas gifts locally, that I would have normally bought through eBay.

Sorry eBay... but you've shot yourself in the foot BIG TIME!!!

I am getting frustrated because I can't seem to find a seller in the US who doesn't use the GSP.  I have emailed several as is my normal way to approach this, but have had no response.  I think I'm being ignored. lol Smiley Sad

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

I have had some success but it can get really annoying as you constantly have to ask if they are willing to ship without the GSP. The smaller sellers are more agreeable to this than the high volume.

Me neither I am not buying from the US much because of these ridiculous shipping costs. I find we do our best up here to ship reasonably while over there they are trying to gauge us every which way. If its not the GSP, its the greedy ones or the ones that won't budge from Priority. They are not all like that mind you. If the price of an item warrants the high shipping cost in case of lost or damage that's fine. But they could budge on some of the smaller item, ship first class with delivery confirmation. Who wants to pay $25.-30.00 when you know bloody well that the item can ship for under $10.00. This is what we are faced with.

If you can find what you are looking for within Canada or even from overseas is sometimes much cheaper. Or stick to the ones that you know are reasonable. I know not always feasible depending on what you are looking for.

Due to way the imports are handled, Canadian customs are getting far more money than they would if the items were sent by post.

Freight imports do not get away with the uncollected taxes that the postal service imports allow.

"Sorry eBay... but you've shot yourself in the foot BIG TIME!!!'

What exactly do you mean?

Most Canadians posting and reading these threads know that GSP is generally not suitable for Canadian buyers (with a few exceptions).

On the other hand, eBay did not implement that program with Canadian buyers in mind.  It was created to increase export sales by American sellers, mostly overseas. And, like it or not, GSP is working for American sellers and eBay.

From the Announcement Board today (December 3rd):

http://announcements.ebay.com/2014/12/sellers-extra-protection-now-available-when-you-ship-to-34-cou...

"Now’s the time to cash in on exploding international demand—and take advantage of the huge global opportunity eBay offers! In the third quarter of 2014 alone, international sales for eBay, Inc. grew 27%—and represent nearly a quarter of the total volume on our site."

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Your best bet, in future, would be to ask the seller if he will make a private listing for you of these items and ship directly through USPS.

Ask him to use your name as the title do only you find it easily.

But be careful.

If the items are expensive (or bulky) they are more likely to be assessed by CBSA as they come over the border. You may or may not save any money doing this.

The seller would also want to use a Confirmed Delivery service for this. For a while, USPS was giving Confirmation on First Class International parcels, but that seems to have stopped, so the seller would be going with Priority International which I think starts around $20-25.

Not allowing sellers to combine (and discount) shipping is another of the many failings of the GSP.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

It seems the problem with this program is that it has automatically enrolled everyone into it. I have spoken to many many many sellers that have no idea what it is or that their customers are being charge these astronomical fees on too of what they charge for shipping. Total scam, so sick of it.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

I successfully made a purchase with USA seller without the GSP.

It was an interesting experience in that:

- it was the most expensive used pair of Jordan shoes I bought from USA ~ $80

- it passed through Canada Customs and I did not have to pay any additional fees/taxes/customs upon arrival other than the USPS first class fee paid to the seller originally when I paid for the item

- meanwhile the previous 3 used pairs purchased using GSP from USA sellers had ridiculous fees including an "import" fee

- those previous 3 were all cheaper than my latest pair, yet GSP manage to calculate that I needed to pay these "import" fees

To me GSP clearly is a money grab for buyers......

Are there instructions for sellers to opt out of GSP when the ad / auction is active?  Can someone point out a link/reference?  I don't know much as I'm strictly a buyer on eBay.... Thanks.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

I placed an order on Dec 3rd and have not yet received the package.  However, my eBay purchase page shows that the package was delivered on Sunday, Dec 7th.  Given that the destination address is a business that is not open on the weekend, I don't see how this is possible.

How do I track the progress of this package?  Normally, I can put the USPS tracking number into the Canada Post tracking page and it shows the progress within Canada.  But Canada Post does not recognize the Global Ship tracking number.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

I made a few purchases using Global Shipping Program (my bad), they usually dropped my package without any signatures at the front door (not good).  However I don't believe there are usually deliveries on a Sunday?!?  I am in Toronto and it seems their carrier of choice is CanPar.

I remember the first time i purchased under the Global Shipping Program and was a bit confused too.

Are you sure the destination that is showing on your eBay is your city or is it the intermediate transfer point (ex. Erlanger, Kentucky) getting ready to be shipped?

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

How thick are they?

Anything over 2cm is a parcel.

How fragile are they?

Packaging may need to be bulky to protect the item.

But the seller chooses the level of service and charges for it. The PB charges cover duty and tax +a service fee of about $5.

The rest was set by your seller.
