Can an item increase by 1100 bucks in less than a year

 I bought an item last year for Christmas for 99 dollars,and wanted it again and was shocked to find selling by many sellers for up to and more than 1200 dollars

What kind of item was it? Some collectibles - especially if in limited quantities - can increase in value.

It depends wholly on the item in question but, yes, although uncommon it is possible.

I'm bidding on an item that sold with shipping from the maker for $49.99 US last March and which I missed.

It is currently at $175 and has two days to go.
