How to calculate total cost

How does a purchaser calculate total final cost of an item? Shipping, handling, import fees etc. It seems to vary widely from seller to seller even from the same location. You need this info BEFORE you bid. What's up with this?

The highest price you will pay for an item is your maximum bid. So if you are bidding in an auction where the current price is $5 and your maximum bid is $50, you know you will pay no more than $50 and may pay much less.

For the seller's shipping and handling fee look on the tab beside the Description tab. Make sure it is set to CANADA. The price that appears will be accurate to your postal code. The seller cannot charge more than this. (Some sellers will combine and discount shipping on multiple orders.)

If the seller is in the USA and uses the Global Shipping Program the cost of duty and sales tax is included in the Import Fees given on the listing. When you see an auction these fees are based on your location plus the CURRENT high bid. If you win at a higher price, these fees will change. Most of the change is sales taxes, by the way, which go to Canadian governments and are not seen by the seller or eBay.

With GSP the US seller is only shipping to Kentucky and the GSP plant. The seller chooses the service he plans to use. The cost of shipping may also be affected by the distance from the seller to KY.

Don't think about it too hard. Just decide what the item is worth to you including the shipping and bid your maximum based on that.

Or just ignore auctions and buy with Fixed Price where there are no variables.
