Or maybe not that it does contain mercury but if the GSP just saw "thermometer" they may have turned it back for that reason ~ because it could be questionable as to what kind of liquid is in it if it's a functioning thermometer... maybe...

The problem would most likely be the strong possibility of mercury in the vintage thermometer - from what I can tell mercury thermometers are on the prohibited lists for both selling on ebay and shipping in general if you google search ~

If it has gone back to the seller, you want the collectible and she wants the money.

She never saw a penny of the GSP shipping charges and the USPS got the money for postage to KY.

Keep that in mind as you negotiate.

Did you get any refund from the GSP?

If not start an eBay dispute now, as Item Not Recieved. You should also call eBay Help and ask for a GSP specialist. Do this on Monday because I don't think there are any in the Philippine CS centre.

Then ask the seller if she will set up a private listing for you (use your eBay name as the title) using USPS as the shipping method.

The chances of the thermometer slipping through are much better with USPS than with the GSP, which is super cautious, preferring to err on the side of paranoia.

The GSP workers are minimum wage hands in Kentucky. Don't expect too much of them.
