Usually that sort of information is required at the time the label is printed and cannot be added to instructions after the fact. 

Is this a Global Shipping Program shipment? Start by asking your seller. Only he will know what carrier was used. What does your tracking say?

If this is a USPS shipment, it will be delivered by Canada Post.

So talking to your letter carrier might help.

You could also put a notice on your mailbox "No Safe Drop Please". Which tells the carrier that he should leave a Notice rather than the parcel.

The Notice tells you where and when you can pick up the shipment. (Usually the PO the next day. Bring ID).

If this is a Global Shipping Program shipment it will probably be delivered by Canada Post, although there have been scattered mentions of CanPar and FedEx.

If the seller used a courier, the carrier will want to collect the duty, sales tax and service charge and would therefore be leaving a notice in any case.

If you have an ongoing problem with porch theft, you should be reporting it both to the local Postmaster (at the Post Office, not the postal outlet) and to the local police station. They may not be able to do much, but there would then be an open file.

Most useful, with porch theft, is to rent a post office box (or UPS or Mailboxes Etc). Only you can access that.
