Twenty shiny loonies.

Which is about $18-19 USD.

If the item is manufactured in a NAFTA signatory, there is no duty even over $20, but sales tax still applies.

The shipper may charge a service fee. With Canada Post that is $9.95.

Note that many items shipped through the postal system do not attract duty, tax or service fees, because the CBSA and Canada Post noticed the pointlessness of collecting amounts that are less than the labour cost of collection. CBSA officers make a living wage (between $40K and $60K on average.)

Couriers MUST charge applicable duty and tax. Their service charges start around $25 and go up with the value of the shipment.

Honey, just don't use UPS ground!

They don't cover brokerage fees.

You'll end up with $40 in brokerage fees even on a small item. Well, somewhere in that range anyway....

Canada post otherwise is rarely concerned with small parcels.

ANY item that crosses the border may require you to pay duty/customs fees.

Some items protected under NAFTA (Canada-USA free-trade agreement are duty-free).

So be prepared to pay duty on everything you buy on ebay!

If your order comes through the mail (postal service), you may not have to pay.      This is because either (1) the sender has already  paid the duty, or (2) it just slips through unnoticed.

If your order comes by courier (UPS, FedEx, etc), you will definitely be required to pay duty.

So, the easy answer is: Plan to pay duty (5% up to 40%) on  EVERYTHING you order from outside Canada!
