For a buyer ? No.
In fact, Paypal can save you money and anguish.
If you offer to pay a seller by money order, which he might accept, the MO will cost you over $3.50 (last time I bought one was about a decade ago).
If you back your Paypal account with a credit card, not only will you be able to pay your seller instantly *, but you have a second level of Buyer Protection above PP's already strong program, in the card's chargeback policy.
For a seller? Yes.
Sellers pay a minium fee on each transaction, and a percentage of the total payment including shipping charges.
If you are changing from US dollars to Canadian, there is also a fee for that.
If you are putting US dollars into a Canadian bank account denominated in US dollars, it gets quite pricey.
There are a few other acceptable online payment services, Propay being one. None are any better than Paypal and buyers are wary of them.
