email notification on following search sent way after listed

I got a notification for a following search this morning and when I looked at one item, it started being listed 3 days ago.

Does this mean that i could miss some items because eBay doesn't send the notification as soon as an item matches my search?

It might. If you wait for the email, it may not provide as instantaneous results as keeping track of new 'saved search' listings on a mobile device within the ebay app. (Also, if ebay sent you an email each time a single item was listed, you'd be barraged. It would be terrible.) I also seem to think there is an email preference that you can set somewhere in communication preferences.
