Sold an item last night and checked the eBay FVF on shipping

afer the buyer had paid and found it to be triple what it should have been.

Called eBay Customer Service and was told that it was a 'system error'.

Appears that the fee was not calculated on the lowest domestic shipping cost

as per the User Agreement.

Fee was refunded but was told to call if it happens again.

Also, be aware that as of April 13, PayPal has raised their fees for Canadians

when payment is RECEIVED from outside of Canada (i.e. USA).

They have rolled a "cross border" fee into the charges so fee is now 3.7 % plus 30 cents

instead of 2.9% plus 30 cents.

Maybe you are all aware of this but thought we would post anyway.

Well thats nice of them. Surprising we didn't get the memo on that. Isnt all price increases suppose to sent by a notice? Or at the very least have the notice on the opening page?

Are you referring to the paypal increase?

That email notice was sent out by PayPal at the start of January (mixed in with a bunch of other changes).

Basically Canadians now pay an extra 0.8% for USA sales (up from 0%), International sales (excluding the USA) already had an extra 1.0% added on (this amount remains unchanged).

American sellers will still pay more than Canadians sellers. Since Canada is lumped in with the rest of the world, an American selling to Canada has an extra fee of 1.0% (versus our new 0.8% extra going the opposite way).

Has anyone that was previously receiving merchant rates actually seen an increase to paypal fees? I'm still receiving the same merchant rate.

Same thing happened to me.

I posted about in the spring seller update, instead of making a new thread like you.

I spent a good 30 min on the phone, listening to excuses.

I didn't want a solution, just a refund and for it to never happen again

'System error,' ya right, just ebay trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Had sleepless night and checked my account with eBay...

Postcard was sold to US buyer on April 22-nd and system charged the FVF on shipping as well.

The item had FREE domestic shipping.

Called eBay 20 minutes ago and of course the first response was "Mam, you charged shipping fee to your buyer and therefore you are charged on shipping cost"...

Explained her about free domestic shipping rule... mentioned another sold item of yesterday which was OK...

She disappeared for a while... asked for another item... gave her sold booklet's number... she same back again and asked for more items' numbers... gave her...

And then I was told that she will call me later or will send me an email....

Just imagine the level of expertise these CSRs have!

Will update the situation.

I checked a few of mine and mine are all ok, however:

I list on .COM

I am free shipping to USA (so domestically) and to Canada.

All the international ones I checked were ok, both singles and combined.

Thanks for pointing out this system error. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if it happens.

Additional data point:

My last international sale (morning of Tuesday, April 26) had the shipping FVF correct.

Domestic on .com is USA ship price.

eBay just called.

They recognize the problem and are referring this to technical support.

The FVF on shipping will be reversed on my account within 24 hrs.

I've never checked my bills before, but a week ago I went through a few of them and found a $17 overcharge.

I wonder if I should start checking now and then, but probably not worth the effort. Who knows.

We keep a notebook in which we record all the details for every one of our auctions

and that includes recording eBay's 10% FVF on the purchase amount and on the shipping.

Very simple to check it off against the entries in the eBay account.

I just checked an all of my sales charged FVF on shipping. I offer free domestic shipping so there shouldn't be any FVF on shipping.

This makes me so angry.

I called ebay this morning and explained that on many of the listing on .ca I offer free domestic shipping so if I sell an item to the US, I do not pay FVF on shipping. The CSR was clueless, he said that you have to pay FVF on shipping. I got charged on an item with free domestic shipping when I shouldn't have.

Have they changed anything that I am not aware of?

When I phoned CS to report the incorrect FVF charges on shipping, I was told nothing has changed.

The CSR that I talked to was clueless as well - kept going around in circles.

Even when he read through eBay's posted information

on how fees are to be calculated and agreed that it is on the less expensive domestic rate,

he would then contradict this and say the fee is charged on what the US buyer paid.

I wonder if eBay is surreptitiously increasing their profits.

If there are one million sellers on eBay and they sneak in an extra charge of just ten cents a week on each seller,

they can boost their bottom line by over five million dollars in a year.

Nothing has changed that I'm aware of. They charged fvf for any U.S. buyers that purchased items that were originally listed on .ca?

I just checked and don't see any problems with mine.

what is an item number it has happened? Some of your recent sales are .com listings that would charge a fee on USA shipping. Are you getting a shipping fee charged on your CAN$ listings? I dont see anything wrong with mine, all lsited on .ca with free domestic/charged intl shipping
