Not in this lifetime or the next.

There have been way to many issues over the years.

Postal money order only and if from the US, international only.

Be very careful you don't get nailed for attempting a sale off site.

"Would you except Western Union payment?"

Yes.  I often did.  It is cash in your hand after you cash it.  No recourse possible by buyer.

I agree with Pierre, it is basically like being paid with cash.

Although ebay doesn't allow us to ask for payments such as cash, money order etc., they have said in the past that if the buyer requests a specific payment method, we are allowed to accept it. You would have to mark it as paid manually.

It is on a different selling venue, not ebay.

The problem with WU money orders was not with the money order itself.

The scam was an email telling you that the MO was on its way and that you can ship now.

It wasn't .

There are sometimes problems with cashing WU MOs, since there are not too many WU offices around. Your most likely outlet is likely also to offer payday loans, in my experience.

You can deposit the MO in the bank, but you still should wait for it to clear, since they are counterfeited from time to time.

I would ask the customer if he could supply either an International Postal Money Order, which can be cashed at any postal outlet.

If there is one in your town, a WalMart MO is just easier to cash than a WU, nothing else special about it.

femme - payment by Western Union is NOT the same as money orders by Western Union.

Why? What issues could the seller have?

The buyer sends the money, the seller picks up the cash at a Western Union location.

Cash in hand the seller sends the item to the buyer.

Since the nearest WU place I could pick up the $$$ is a 45 minute round trip I've become lazy and I don't accept it.

When I was less lazy, I never had problems with WU payments, folks in Latin America used to use it a fair bit.

at a Western Union location.

That can be the hard part.... especially if one is in a more rural or even suburban area.

Banking it and waiting for clearance can be easier.

Again, none of this is an actual problem with Western Union. It's just not a very efficient way to get paid in the 21st century.

Tell the buyer why can't he/she us PayPal or register with PayPal.  I always said NO to Western Union at any time to be safe.

Some people get really upset about giving financial information over the web.

The percentage seems to be higher among those dealing in collectibles.

However, especially internationally, this flags a somewhat paranoid and difficult customer to me, since PP is so much faster than snail mail and very very secure.

But I am mostly thinking of money orders. WU transfers may be quicker.

If the buyer were in Turkey (and a very few other countries) PP may not be an option.

Fyi, your local Safeway, has a WU terminal at the front desk. I believe they could give you cash right there.

That's completely wrong. Western Union has a bad reputation and is often used to scam, but it's unsafe ONLY FOR BUYERS, not for SELLERS.

I am not really understand what do you mean by "safe"? Western Union gives you CASH. I don't know any SAFER method of payment as cash.

Nowadays, everything can be phony, the money order and a bank draft - or even a genuine bank transfer (consulted that with BMO!) - but cash? Are you suggesting, Western Union will pay you using falsified bills?

Concerning PayPal - I was scammed several times - the funds were removed from my account as late as 3 months after the transaction. I called PayPal, and they explained the buyer used a stolen credit card.

How a bank transfer can be fake?

That's simple! Made from a HACKED bank account. Bank opens an investigation after the owner's complaint (often months later), and the amount is reversed.
