Store Final Value Fees:
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/storefees.html

4% to 9.15% depending on category as of May 2017

the old 9% store FVF is now 9.15%
So your $31 sale (31.00 x .0915 x 0.13 rounded) would be $3.21 for someone in Ontario

If you are located in Ontario, the government charges 13% HST.

eBay collects the tax on behalf of the government on ALL fees charged to your account and remits the tax collected to the federal government.

If you are registered with GST/HST, you get a rebate (ITC) for the tax paid.

If you are not registered with GST/HST you have to absorb the tax as you already do with all other taxes you pay on the items you buy or the postage you get from Canada Post.

Unless you are registered with GST/HST, you are not allowed (it is against the law) to collect GST or HST.

It took me a while to figure things out...

From another discussion..................

--------------------------

Just got my invoice for July, 2017..... and it took me a while to figure out what the numbers meant..

The new fees included .......

                       Final Value fees..................................$____.__

Subscription and one time fees........$ 314.95

-------------------------------------------

My question was ... Why does my Anchor Store subscription cost $314.95

Where does that extra $15.00 come from...

It took me a while... but then  that light got turned on.

Both the FVF and the store subscription in this section included GST at 5 %

( I live in Manitoba)

That $15.00 was the GST on $299.95, the amount for my Anchor Store subscription

--------------------------------------------

It appears that eBay calculates GST for each transaction such that the number for FVF  in the

            New Fees Section

includes GST

 --------------------------------------------

Then lower down in the invoice we have.....

Total Taxable amount ...........................   (No GST included here)

               GST/HST at a rate of 5 %......................

and finally the .......Total Current Invoice Amount equals The sum for FVF plus Store  subscription  plus GST = 5 %

and... the confusion was .......gone.....

If You want to know the GST/HST for each province you have to go to the Canada Revenue Agency website

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/gst-tps/rts-eng.html#rt

In order to charge GST/HST, a seller must be registered with Canada Revenue Agency to do so...

There are rules..... starting with earning over $30,000 in sales PLUS postage each year... where you ... must... Register.

Those with less than $30,000 each year may choose to register if only to have any tax paid refunded..... could be sellers that sell a very high percentage of inventory to US buyers  where GST/HST is NOT charged.....

Whatever tax, whether GST, HST or QST, is  paid on eBay fess becomes an Input Tax Credit...  for those registered to collect GST/HST  and then QST in Quebec

This could become an important time to read about Canada Revenue Agency's rules as they apply to GST/HST...

and...

if one is really confused then consulting an accountant knowledgeable about selling on-line... specifically eBay  ....becomes a critical event.
