This is Bad news. What happened to a democratic process in this decision? Like having a referendum like vote. It's simple.....Ask Ebay.ca users, Do you want to sell in Canadian Dollars?, Yes or No? I'm sure the vote would be 80% or higher that vote NO!!!! This is a mistake in the highest regard. This will cause mass confusion and anger, as we are already seeing here on this board.

I would probably change and sell on Ebay.com but I was under the assumption that if you sell on Ebay.com that you would have to be an American resident and/or have a U.S. address?

If I decide to change my listings to eBay.com listings, what effect will that have on my eBay.ca store?  Will I need to apply for an eBay.com store?

Let me start by saying that, in the long list of bad ideas ebay has had over the last 10+ years, this may be worst one.

I list auctions on ebay.ca and usually at $9.99US starting price for seven day listings.

If I want to keep that price when I'm forced to list in Canadian dollars, I will have to figure out every listing day what $9.99US is in Canadian funds on that particular day. Of course, it will never be the same amount, as exchange rates change daily. So my $9.99US photo will actually be $9.95US or $10.48US, or whatever amount depending on that day's exchange.

Do you honestly believe that this will help sales?????

Let's look at shipping. Due to the exchange fluctuation, I will no longer be able to offer a standard shipping charge for US customers. It will have to be adjusted for every batch of listings and even then, what I get paid will actually depend on which day the buyer pays me, as the paypal exchange rate, which of course is not the same as the ebay exchange rate, fluctuates several times a day.

This new policy removes all predictability from my sales and adds an extra layer of work to my already busy schedule.

You say that your numbers show that sellers do better when listing in Canadian dollars. I would like to see where you get these "numbers" from. Because everything in my 16 year experience on ebay tells me that that claim is a load of manure.

Normally when ebay comes out with a new rule to screw the sellers, I can see the reason behind it, as it usually means that ebay takes a bit more money from us. In this case, however, I don't see how this helps ebay in any way. This policy will undoubtedly lead to lower sales for Canadian sellers, which of course means less money for ebay. That in turn will lead to an increase in fees to make up for the shortfall.

So whoever came up with this bright idea, I salute you. You've just managed to anger a large segment of your sellers for no gain at all.

Congratulations!

And I have to ask the lot of annoyed USD-loyalists here: as part of what wild conspiracy do you think the staff at eBay Canada would deliberately lead Canadian sellers astray with bad direction? If they know CAD listings sell better, and say so, you can rest assured it is the case.

I list in CAD and my sales increased both domestically and abroad from the time that I did so.

Oh, and on that subject, this is just another bad idea on top of the idea that it was a good idea to charge fees on shipping.  EBay makes all its sellers pay for the sins of those who abuse the shipping fee option instead of monitoring those bad eggs and banning them.

It is certainly not fair to charge fees on shipping that the sellers don't make any money on.

Wow. Another horrible decision by eBay to make it harder and harder to make money here and get product to people who are looking for what I have to offer. Most of my sales are into the USA or Europe, and because the US dollar is used for most if not all import and export trade in Canada it seems to be the most logical and convenient currency to do business. As mentioned by another seller, American buyers may be wary or unwilling to pay for an item having to convert their dollars into a foreign currency, which will spiral all US sales into oblivion.

Ebay, your fees and policies make it almost impossible to do business with you as it is, you do realize that 0 sales means zero fees taken by you from us sellers right? Are you allowing us Canadians to list and do all of our business on ebay.com? Because that is what we will have to do to continue to do business on your site, which will make ebay.ca redundant and a ghostsite.
This latest ram it down our neck decision by ebay makes me hope and pray someone creates a decent competitive site so we sellers can migrate away from the horrible way ebay decides to do business. A site where feedback is real and sellers can flag horrible buyers, not one sided against sellers as ebay has it now, a site where you keep most of what you make, a site where you can list in any currency and anyone in any country can see your item if you ship to that country. Wow, wouldn't that be great? How about it tech savy friends, it's about time ebay had some real competition.

eBay is a business, not a democracy. I may disagree with the C$ only decision but if eBay takes a direction like this, it is because they think as a business decision it is better for eBay.ca Canada and sellers here.

People, there is no sense venting and arguing with these people if their minds are made up. The fact is, they can't force this update on us; all we have to do to avoid this nightmare is move from .ca to .com. They will realize they made a big mistake when there is nothing left for sale on eBay.ca except the items sold by their "focus group members". So, let's just all abandon the .ca ship and discuss the technical details of exactly how we move our stores/current listings to eBay.com. I looked over the FAQ and didn't see instructions on how to do this, and eBay employee guy here hasn't answered this question yet. Anybody know?

The point is choice!  As I said in a previous post, I may decide to change.  But I want it to be by my own choice, not because I am being forced to.

EBay isn't interested primarily in their seller's interests.  They are interested in their own.  They think they will get more fees by doing this.  Just like charging fees on shipping costs.  That wasn't in their sellers interests either.  Only their own

I have been selling on ebay.ca for the last few years, the items that I sell are valued on the open market in US dollars only hence if I am forced to list in Canadian dollars a considerable percentage of my market has disappeared, it is forcing  me to reconsider my business strategy.  Why change something that works, it is very inconsiderate and stupid, it will cost me money and in return ebay money through lost sales

More rights taken away from sellers. Nothing new..

I thought it was our human right to list in whatever currency we preferred.

The only reason we list on ca is for the shipping calculator.

Canada Post options are not offered on .com.

Other sites are definitely looking better.

Yet another ridiculous idea. But it wouldn't be the first by the corporation as it seems to often operate with limited IQ. Can't wait till someone steps ups to the plate and offers some reasonable competition to Ebay to keep it in check and have it be more considerate towards sellers. Having said that. I'd like to know how Ebay will address store ownership. I pay store fees on Ebay.ca and have the use of the tools that come with it and the ability to list in both currencies. I currently list equally in both currencies since a portion of the US products go into the US and are often US made. I also like to receive US funds since I often also buy goods in US dollars. Does Ebay actually expect me to pay store fees to both sites if I want to continue to deal in both currencies? Now you want to suck the cost of two premium stores out of me so I can receive funds in multiple currencies??????? AND I have to start a second account with ZERO feedback and build it up again????? AND I have to pay exchange fees converting currencies?????What kind of ludicrous BS is that? Also as mentioned here before, American buyers DO NOT want to convert currencies. Lastly I ship through Paypal Which provides me with CPC labels and discounts. Will I be able to do that through Ebay.com? Will you be including CPC shipping on .com?....Brainless....

I don't understand the posts about "human rights", democracy, and so on. eBay is a business, not a democracy. Choose a better point to argue on.

The decision is a business decision based on data and facts eBay.ca Canada researched.

I happen to believe listings in US$ on eBay.ca works for some sellers better than C$. But it may not be as ebay.ca Canada states true for most sellers today.

Over the years, I questioned the validity of the old statement the listing in US currency has 15% more sales. It was a study from the early 2000's and was never done again since then. A 10+ years old study being used up to 1-2 years ago. Not valid in the eCommerce world today.

Really? This is a business site? How patronizing!.......C,mon buddy,  I was merely suggesting a more amicable solution than just Ebay.ca pushing this on us through a handful of sellers input and data. Sellers as a whole need more say as we are half the driving force of the success of Ebay.ca....... I do enjoy selling here but this is a major error that will create more work and less sales and is angering many sellers as we are seeing here.

I disagree that this decision will better for sellers on Ebay.ca....... We will know soon
