Am I understanding this correctly, if my iPad doesn't sell, then I don't pay an insertion fee.

I have been sent an invoice, when does eBay then correct this.

Not exactly.

When you listed your item, just before you completed the listing, your fees were given.

The listing fee may have been 'free' but if you used any of the options (most of which are useless) there would have been charges and they would have been listed.

Off the top of my head some options that you might have opted for are Sub-Title (not Searchable-useless), Designer (only seen when your listing is opened- useless), Reserve (many bidders will not bid on a Reserve auction- worse than useless).

Best Offer and Buy It Now have their uses, although I don't use them myself.

So, if you went in bare, no charge for the first listing and possibly none for a relist.

If you chose any options, there will be a charge.

And just to make your life more interesting*, some options are free on the first listing but are charged for subsequently.
