Turning eBay store into registered Canadian business

I live in British Columbia & trying to turn my selling into e-commerce registered business. Any help where to start would be appreciated 🙂

Turning eBay store into registered Canadian business

Well.

 

You need a BC sales tax number for the GST and PST.

You might ask your MPP's office for guidance or drop into a BCServices office if one is handy.

 

You probably need a municipal business license. This will change how your property taxes are calculated (upwards). Our shop in Ottawa ON didn't get municipal garbage pickup so don't be surprised at those kind of changes. Your municipal councillor's office can probably guide you on that.

 

And make sure your insurance policy holder knows that you are a business. That changes your fire and flood coverage, as well as adding shoptheft and liability.  Also your auto insurance if you need the car for your business.

 

And talk to an accountant to have your books set up correctly for Revenue Canada.
