Postal Strike

Hey my Canadian friends. We're all aware of the possible postal strike. I know Ebay will help protect sellers somewhat, but do you think they will protect us from negative feedback or poor ratings for shipping? Maybe they will. Don't need the hassle. Will consider removing listings till it's settled Thoughts?

" but do you think they will protect us from negative feedback"

NO they will not.  eBay already confirmed in writing that negative feedback left as a result of delay caused by the strike will NOT be removed.

See the weekly board hour this week for confirmation.

REMINDER – PREPARING FOR A POSSIBLE CANADA POST LABOUR DISRUPTION

As you are likely aware, there is a possibility that Canada Post services will be impacted by a labour disruption as early as July 2, 2016. We encourage you to visit canadapost.ca/update to read about the latest developments and sign up for email updates.

In the event of a Canada Post labour disruption, eBay will remain open for business, and we’re asking you to do the same. There is no need to put your store on vacation hold, to end listings, or to zero out quantities on multi-quantity listings.

Should Canada Post service be disrupted, we recommend that sellers:

  • Continue to list and sell on eBay; and
  • Be considerate and accommodate buyers who may wish to cancel orders if they have not yet been shipped.

eBay will be monitoring, and where possible adjusting, estimated delivery dates and eBay Money Back Guarantee timelines to ensure that sellers are not penalized for shipping delays.

eBay will communicate with buyers who purchase Canadian items prior to, or during, a labour disruption to ensure they are aware of the likelihood of shipping delays.

The eBay Canada Team will post additional details as they become available.

Thank you,

eBay Canada

THANKS EBAY BUT I THINK THIS WOULD BE A GREAT TIME TO SAVE FEES AND COSTS AND GO ON VACATION. It would also be a very good time to give ebay a revenue disruption like the one inflicted on all of us...

WITH ALL THE BS EBAY HAS INFLICTED ON ITS SELLERS WITH A SHOPPING CART THAT DOES NOT WORK, US $$, THE ABSOLUTELY USELESS MIGRATION TOOL, STORE FEE INCREASES, and all the other **bleep** both Buyers and Sellers have to deal with, eBay Canada is quickly becoming the butt off!

I personally will be reducing many items in my store, and will be continuing to develop my own site where my Buyers can shop hassle free & I set the rules.

We have put our store on vacation until we see a settlement. I believe eBay canada is just trying to protect it's revenue stream at our expense by saying that we should stay open. They won't protect us at all. With everything they have done to sellers in recent times how are we to expect any help from them. For a seller, it's succeed in sprite of eBay.ca not because of. My 2 cents worth.

On vacation....Dave

Come to the discussion forums to see what the sellers going do when the postal strike do happen. I am seeing many sellers by their posts are closing their listings or stores for the time to wait out the postal strike period. Smart! I say to all sellers, do the right thing and save your headache from any problems arising during the strike. Personally, I don't see any positive benefits if postal people stop working. If I was to sell here ... I would not.

If if you think I am buffing? No, I am dead serious in what I say. I have a very good friend working in Canada Post, and he told me the strike is real and will happen ... If negotiations don't go well. I took his word for that. I'm not buying what EBay said will protect sellers from any negative feedback during the postal strike. Not worth my headache, and the customer's headaches.

just my two cents in opinion

Ebay does not deserve to take my money if a postal strike happens. They work with Canadapost through their system and i dont trust any of it.If they work so closely with Canadapost,USA Postal service, then they should have some influence, but will probably do nothing. The person who was speaking for Canadapost last week on CBC radio said, they were quite surprised over the last few years how parcel service has increased as letter mail decreased,so why did they raise the rates so high its impossible to sell to foreign countries becasue the shipping is so high.We all told them that 10 years ago,but no one cares to listen.Been on here for 16 years and my sales get slower each year. Do you think Ebay will protect us in an event of a postal strike,Likely Not! I will end all my listings if it does happen until it is settled. They have never protected the sellers on ebay ,always protecting the buyers who sometimes fraudulently scam us all. Time to hurt the ones that have hurt us. Ebay should listen to the sellers finally. How am i going to ship outside of Canada if a strike happens? My business is sunk and i am starting to tread water. After the strike happens how is Ebay going to fix the problems it will create? Time to stop this nonsense and move on to something more financially secure. After 38 years of selling collectibles and antiques its time to do something else. Thank you Ebay and Canadapost for doing nothing!

Why are we cowering and allowing this corporation to control us??  Are you satisfied with living in a facist state where corporations govern and control us or would you rather live in a democracy where the people govern and control the country??

Our voices need to be heard and we can stop this strike before it starts if enough people speak up.  Send emails and phone this person and demand that they stop this corporation from going on strike and putting us out of business.  Small business is the backbone of this country.

Workers in this free country do have the right to strike in order to achieve a better contract.

That right is recognized in our Constitution.

Even if ten million individuals contact the minister, NOTHING can be done.  Workers have to right to negotiate the best contract possible and have the right to strike to help their negotiations.

"Small business is the backbone of this country."

That is correct but mail order business is only a very small fraction of "small business".  Whatever consumers cannot get by mail, they will go to the store (also owned by "small business") and get it.

I do not like the idea of a postal strike (or lockout) - as it means I had to close my eBay store and will lose sales -  but... in a free society... we must respect the rights of others.

Spamming all the selling venues  - have seen your spammy posts on other selling venues-

You are entitled to your opinion but I believe Sellers will do what they need to do for their own businesses.

We have decided to stay open, shipping higher cost items, over $50 US, with Fed Ex, the rest will have to wait until the strike is settled...

Had to message a buyer today to confirm he understand the note in the listings:

Due to the risk of a Canada Post Strike, beginning June 27th, all packages under $50 US, will be held until an agreement is made and Canada Post is once again accepting shipments.

He has not responded as of yet...I offered a refund if he doesn't want to wait.

Tried to ship all with Fed Ex, but the extra shipping eats all the profits, sometimes leaving us in the hole....blah

Going on vacation to Atlantic City July 6th....hopefully the striking casino workers will have reached a deal by then...a feel a summer theme here

If the buyer requests a refund, do you get your FVF refunded by eBay or not?

The way things are shaking out right now, I'm more inclined to think that it would be a lockout that would disrupt mail service rather than a strike.

Sounds to me as though the heat should be put on Canada Post, not CUPW.

FVF's are refunded for buyer requested cancellations. Also for returns even if they are SNAD.

It is so sad that Canada Post is doing when in fact they are making millions and millions of profit.  They claimed that they have a $1 Billion Deficit when in fact it is not true.

Canada Post receives more profit from packages/parcels from Amazon, eBay and others for years and years.

The problem with Canada Post is that they become "greedy" that is what it is all about Canada Post and the strike.  Hope it is going to be a very very short strike.  I am praying!!

P.S. I am a Canadian seller living in Canada using US ID to protect my ID.  Thanks.

Got any documentation on that?

In 2015 Canada had a net profit (after taxes) of 99 Million on 8 BILLION in revenue, that is a Net Margin of 1.2%.

How would you be doing if your profit was1.2%, how many trucks, computer systems, new sorting equipment etc. can you buy for 99 Million, how much reserve cash do you have if fuel prices return to "normal".

Maybe they could operate more efficiently, maybe they could operate cheaper if they had no union to deal with, lots of maybe's but the fact is they currently operate with razor thin margins that could (and have in the past) vanish completely at the drop of a hat.

Please don't waste your time sending emails here for several reasons.

First, that is Public Works and Government Services Canada, and they have absolutely NOTHING to do with Canada Post Corporation.

Second, the government has spam filtering on their email that is 100% effective, so none of your complaining emails will get anywhere.

You would be better off contacting your local MP and telling him/her that you support any back-to-work legislation they may be considering.
