What happens if...
Feb 22, 2012 07:46 AM

So there is an item i am interested in and would like to get it.....The listing is at 60.00 and there are no bids...The problem is the listing ends at 2 am

If i place a bid of 75.00 for eg.. and nobody else bids... do i pay 60.00 or 75.00

Thanks..Rick

"The problem is the listing ends at 2 am"

Where is the problem?  Auction listings end on eBay 234 hours a day, seven days a week.

"If i place a bid of 75.00 for eg.. and nobody else bids... do i pay 60.00 or 75.00?"

You pay $60.

For more information about the proxy bidding system used on eBay, please take a look at:

"..end on eBay 234 hours a day" = ...end on eBay 24 hours a day - obviously.

Fat fingers this morning! :(

If eBay had a branch on Venus, auctions would end 243 hours a day,the closest our solar system has to your 234 hour day.;)

Its a problem because i am usually sleeping at 2 am, i like too be there when the auction closes.. so its a problem for me, maybe not you.

Most of us do sleep at 2;00am.

That should not be a problem.  There is no need whatsoever to be there - at the computer - when the listing ends.

In fact, if you take a look around, you will notice a very small percentage of listings show bids entered in the last few minutes - very small indeed.

The eBay system is structured is such a way as an interested bidder places the bid at any time and the bid will be exercised by closing time.

If someone were to bid a higher price than your bid, it simply means that buyer was willing to pay more than you for the item.  Being there to see the "action" at the last minute will not change the outcome.

B-)Maybe the seller also likes to be there when their auction ends and they live in a different time zone or maybe they work or have different sleep habits.:^O

"because i wasnt there"

Sorry but that is incorrect.

You lost the bid because someone else was willing to pay more for it.

If you were really willing to pay more, you should have entered your bid accordingly.
