Anyone notice...

...that CONs and CONation supporters are a bunch of white older men who don't want to understand the changing dynamics of modern life?

Case in point: working mothers, under CONs, are not to be seen or heard from. Your babies are not welcome under any circunstances. Period.

Well what can one say, except:

As CONservatives have often said when it suits them.... 'it's a RULE'. (unless they can find a way to wiggle out of one)

I'm not an older white man but I don't think that a baby belongs in the House of Commons or in any type of professional "meeting". They probably could have waited until later though and talked to her about it rather than make an issue of it right at that moment.

Frankly, there are already enough people in there who act like children...they don't need some who actually ARE children. lol

Talk to Google. They bring their children to work and their dogs to work .....which just shows.....it can work. Seems to be a reasonably successful company.....as a matter of fact it was recently voted the best company to work for.

Some people just can't pry themselves out of the dark ages.

I agree with pjcdn.

I don't think a baby belongs in the House of Commons or in any type of professional venue.

I teach Grade 1...and I love children.

But I was never allowed (nor did I want) to bring my babies or children to work with me.  I also did not bring a cat or a dog with me.  It was a work environment, and it wasn't the time or the place.

You're right.

One MP told CBC News the head of the House pages came to speak to Hassainia and told her the baby couldn't stay for the vote.

The MP said Hassainia passed her baby to a "pretty nervous looking page, who wasn't too sure about how to hold the baby," who then passed him to lobby staff.

Not to disagree with you but there was a documentary I watched about a teacher in the  US who brought her dog (a great dane) to work and it was part of her class. I estimate the kids were in grade 4 or 5. No problems and she often used the dog as a teaching tool and a way to teach children compassion and caring.

I agree with pjcdn.

Yeah - me too.  I find it disquieting when people bring their pet gerbils and parrots to restaurants where I'm trying to eat a meal in peas and broccoli.

Same with folks that insist on bringing cats into aviaries. Or babies into silent film festivals.   Just so unnecessary

Yup, splendid idea.  Union members love to bring their kids to the picket line and walk in front of big trucks with them.

No problem with companies with day care.  Great idea.  But, you won't find thiose kids on the production line in a factory.  You don't find them on the fire truck with daddy.  Or going off to Afghanistan with mommy or daddy.  Or a hundred other places where they would be disruptive or in danger.  So why in the House of Commons.  The way our politicians behave and swear, the kid would be scarred for life.

Common sense is a wonderful thing.  Good thing they didn't decide to waste it on everybody.

Gee.  If I said that about an African Canadian or a Chinese person or a First Nations person, I would be called a bigot.

As an older white male (who voted Liberal) I am calling you a bigot.  If you are white, I hope you remember your statement when you are older.  Wear it well!

ever notice how those with big mouths and no lives to speak of and no jobs always seem to post about hating 'cons" but don't have the balls to show feedback or know who they are?

and then when FACTS get thrown at them to discredit their little story's they run and hide and try and start a new thread?

Babies are now welcome.

In the 1980s, Sheila Copps broke new ground simply by bringing her baby daughter into the members’ lobby, behind the curtains of the House of Commons. By the late 1990s, Michelle Dockrill had actually brought her young son into the Chamber, holding him as she stood to vote.

However, Parliament seemed to take a step back on Tuesday when rookie NDP MP Sana Hassainia felt pressed into leaving her seat just ahead of a vote, because she was accompanied by her three-month-old boy, Skander-Jack. By Wednesday, Ms. Hassainia said the matter was related to a misunderstanding and that she could now return to the chamber with her son.

The clarification by the Speaker’s Office will help ensure that current and future MPs can take care of their babies and handle their parliamentary duties simultaneously. The matter is particularly relevant now as the NDP caucus is full of MPs in their twenties and thirties.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Hassainia said she was asked by a page on Tuesday to leave at the instruction of House Speaker Andrew Scheer, ahead of a vote related to the abolition of the long-gun registry.

“I was told that MPs had noticed the presence of my baby in the House, that it was proscribed and that I had to leave,” Ms. Hassainia said.

However, the Speaker’s Office said the page simply told Ms. Hassainia and other MPs taking pictures of the pair to take their seats for the vote, given there are strict rules about using a camera in the House.

On Wednesday, Ms. Hassainia said she had received guarantees that she could bring her son to the House again if ever her husband was not there to take care of him.

“It might happen again,” she said, shortly before passing her baby to his father as she spoke to reporters.

Ms. Hassainia noted that MPs don’t benefit from maternity leaves and that she must be able to continue her work representing her constituents.

“We don’t want privileges, we want to be able to work and take care of our families,” she said.

Other parliamentarians said the incident serves as a reminder that the House must ensure that mothers have the ability to balance their work and familial duties.

“I have no problem, as a member of Parliament, having a baby in the House of Commons,” said Labour Minister Lisa Raitt, adding she frequently brought her children to work before she was elected as an MP.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May said she has nursed her daughter in the White House and on the Royal Yacht Britannia, and that the House of Commons should be at the forefront of these issues.

“If we’re going to fully integrate women in the House of Commons, that includes babies,” Ms. May said. “If you’re going to be a working mom, then you need to have the institutions prepared to accommodate. The House of Commons should be in the lead, not the last into the modern age.”

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, who has a four-year-old son, said common sense calls for additional flexibility when it comes to young ones following their parents around in Ottawa.

“There are always concessions that we can make in that respect. The House has got to be open and be a leader,” he said.

On the basis of statements contained in the link above (post 14), I conclude that the OP's comments  "...that CONs and CONation supporters are a bunch of white older men who don't want to understand the changing dynamics of modern life?  Case in point: working mothers, under CONs, are not to be seen or heard from. And I believe responsible parents have contingency plans pre-arranged so that people they trust can look after their kids when that need arises.

So you are calling her irresponsible as well?

This is an MP who was required to report for an unscheduled vote.  You try to get a babysitter at the last minute and see what happens. Clearly, you are one of those old white CONation supporters whose wife was seen on occasion when she came out from under the mountain of diapers...or else you're a single old White male with no concept of a working mother's trials and tribulations.  Either way, your opinion means squat on this issue as you haven't been there.

Here's the thing: maybe if the CONs had actually followed through on a viable daycare program that services working parents, this wouldn't have happened.

But then again, if it isn't in the corporate interest, it doesn't happen in ths country.

Nuvistors, your comment makes no sense whatsoever and based on any lack of logic, I've had to report you. Plus your racist reference was uncalled for anyway.

First off, I am an older white male, so hardly anything racist about talking about my own race.  And bigoted? Hardly. Realistic to the ways of the ruling class.

And I could care less if you toe a party line.

What I care about is when that CON party decides it knows best for everyone. And what is best in their opinion is dismantling this country, giving all to corporate interests and becoming as much like the USA as possible.

While I like the US and live there for awhile, I don't want to be an American. So why would I tolerate Stevie and company remaking what works pretty well in US North?

If that's toeing a party line, guilty.

So now that NU has played the Hitler card, does that close this thread?

Ironic you call me a bigot when your intolerance is clear in this comment...I'd laugh if it wasn't so painful.

Do you need help connecting the dots?

CON Speaker of the House (Old White Guy (OWG) who is also a biased idiot based on his rulings to date)...

...summons over Young White Page (YWG)....

....charges YWG with following:  "Get that damned Young White Baby (YWB) out of my chambers!"....

...YWG tentatively and with some intrepidation approaches Young MP Mother and says:  "You have to remove YWB from the House"...

to which YMPM says: "Why?"....

...Reponse: "Cause the OWG who is our boss and can fire us, says so."

Typical White Older CON response to everything.

Why are we buying jets we don't need? Cause I said so...

Why are we lowering corporate taxes at a tme when our debt is rising? Cause I said so...

Why are we pumping money into all things associated with the Queen and reintroducing the 'Royal' back into the military when we really need to pump more money and resources into treating our wounded vets? Cause I said so...
