conservatives.

CSIS may use intelligence derived from torture, Toews says 'Exceptional circumstances,' urgent threats require sharing 'most complete information available'

This is what really scares me.

Not all the other crap that the lieberals are talking about.

And we use to be angry at the Nazis, and China, and ....well the list goes on and on......but now......we're no better. That's the problem with governments like Harper's.....when they raise the ante....the others do too and then one day ka-boom and we will have deserved it.

But if that media article bothers you.....you ain't seen nothing yet.

True it has....from local cop shops, to the RCMP, to the military. Now we can say it has Harper's Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

We can probably put it down to stupidity.  Every other Prime Minister has probably known about it.  They were smart enough to leave it in private - sort of what the people don't know won't hurt me.

True it has..

It started with PET when he brought in war measures act.

How about Chretien when he advocated the use of baseball bats when people complained about the use of pepper spray pm peacefull protestors in BC?

I have never heard of torture being used during the October crisis. Did a search, found nothing. Have you got a link to that?

No he didn't do that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Measures_Act

While the War Measures Act was in force, 465 people were arrested and held without charge.[16]

The response by the federal and provincial governments to the incident still sparks controversy. There was a large amount of concern about the Act being used, as it was a considered to be a direct threat to civil liberties, removing rights such as habeas corpus from all Canadians. This is the only time that the War Measures Act had been put in place during peacetime in Canada.

Critics, such as Laurier LaPierre, accused Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's move to suspend habeas corpus as more of a reaction to the separatist movement in Quebec by criminalizing it.[17]

The Act's 1970 regulations were replaced by the Public Order (Temporary Measures) Act in November 1970, which subsequently expired on 30 April 1971.[18]

In October 1970, tanks roamed city streets and soldiers in full battle gear raided homes in their hunt for "terrorists." They were looking for the Front de libération du Québec; French Canadian nationalists who abducted a British diplomat and a Quebec minister. Some felt like they were living in a police state. How far would Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau go? "Just watch me," he said. Three days later he invoked the War Measures Act and a nation waited with civil liberties suspended.

And prevented a civil war.  The roundups of those who were arrested didn't include torture. Despite civil liberties being suspended while the crisis was underway, there are no recorded instances of torture.

When you cross the line and suspend civil liberties where do you stop if those measures are ineffective?

Trudeau got lucky and my guess is that he was prepared to use torture if it came down to it.

His use of the war measures act was a major boost for the seperatist movement in Quebec.

Unbelievable I agree with you for a change! No warrant needed when lives may be in danger.

Your ‘guess’! LOL

We’re not talking about warrants…..we’re talking about torture…..and cops do it all the time to one degree or another. They get off on it……makes them feel like big men.

Your guess? What are your credentials that we should care about 'your guess'?

My guess would be that he wouldn't given his moral character.

Now Stevie and Company have already proven they will use torture, albeit via proxy countries as they don't want to get their hands dirty.

The reality is that torture doesn't provide reliable information/intelligence.  It's an illegal activity used by bullies and idiots. Read the experts: they're all in agreement on this point: at a certain point, folks being tortured will tell you whatever they believe you want to know to make the pain stop.

And suspending civil liberties in a crisis is a long, long way from employing torture.

My guess would be that he wouldn't given his moral character.

He was too busy romancing a long string of glamorous women.  When he finally married, his wife quickly realized she made a mistake.  He was not a family man.  He was a workaholic who had little time for a wife and children.  Then, after his divorce, he fathered a daughter, out of wedlock, with a woman 36 years younger than himself.

Trudeau had no moral character.

He rode around Montreal wearing a nazi helmet during WWII while Canadians were being killed by nazis.

He did a piroette behind the Queen's back.

He gave us deficit spending.

He was a lawyer.

He was a politician.

His son is as arrogant as he is. Where did Justin learn to a jerk?

He was also very left wing when he was younger.  But, like Harper, he somehow shed his earlier skin and adopted a different philosophy.
