"dirty tricks" by the NDP... according to the Conservatives!

That is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Get over it. ;)

Baird said: “Not only have they stooped to the lowest of the lows,..."

That is funny! :)

It was less than a year ago, during the last election campaign, that the Conservatives (through Sun Media) spreaded runours and innuendo about Jack Layton visiting a bawdy house known to the police in 1996 for a massage.

"lowest of lows" ?  Baird should get some perspective.

Toews wants the ability, to at a whim, delve into the private lives of private citizens.

Well…..now, how does he like it?

the question remains ... who's mommy are they going to cry to about the opposition adopting their own *lowest of the low* tactics?

that's the funny thing about *dishing it out* ... one must also be able to take it, and act like an adult when ones own brand of poop is thrown back in ones face

CONs = Hypocrites!

The same ones whining about 'dirty tricks'  are the same group of CONs who practiced their own dirty tricks!

Phoning folks in Liberal Colter's riding, LYING and telling them that Colter had resigned and wasn't running again.

Not surprising, the CON Speaker ruled in favour of the CON party!

NDP behind ‘nasty, dirty’ Vikileaks Twitter campaign

Without proof, your statement is liable.

Just because CONs are screaming and throwing poop, that doesn't prove the NDP are behind this.

My book: the CONs are just as likely to have done this themselves to set up the NDP.

That's more their style.

Charlton said the House of Commons information services branch had confirmed the IP address in question was “public and could belong to any user from any political party or any member of the House administration in the parliamentary precinct.”

Approx. 1000 people have access to this IP address.

This is a very good example of how tracing an IP address doesn't tell you who was behind that computer.

Apparently Toews doesn't even know what's in his own bill when questioned about certain sections. He even seem surprised. LOL.

What a moron.

Essentially, it says that government agents may enter an ISP when they wish, without a warrant, and demand to see absolutely everything — including all data anywhere on the network — and to copy it all. If that seems hard to believe, let's walk through it.

First, Section 33 tells us that, "The Minister may designate persons or classes of persons as inspectors for the purposes of the administration and enforcement of this Act." So we're not talking about police officers necessarily. We're talking about anyone the minister chooses — or any class of persons. (Musicians? Left-handed hockey players? Members of the Conservative Party? Sure, that's absurd — but the bill allows it...)

Next, Section 34 spells out the sweeping powers of these "inspectors." And, if they sound Orwellian, welcome to the world of Section 34.

The inspectors may "enter any place owned by, or under the control of, any telecommunications service provider in which the inspector has reasonable grounds to believe there is any document, information, transmission apparatus, telecommunications facility or any other thing to which this Act applies."

And, once he or she is in, anything goes.

The inspector, says the bill, may "examine any document, information or thing found in the place and open or cause to be opened any container or other thing." He or she may also "use, or cause to be used, any computer system in the place to search and examine any information contained in or available to the system."

You read that right. The inspector gets to see "any" information that's in or "available to the system." Yours, mine, and everyone else's emails, phone calls, web surfing, shopping, you name it. But, if that sounds breath-taking enough, don't quit now because the section is still not done.

The inspector — remember, this is anyone the minister chooses — is also empowered to copy anything that strikes his or her fancy. The inspector may "reproduce, or cause to be reproduced, any information in the form of a printout, or other intelligible output, and remove the printout, or other output, for examination or copying."

Oh, and he can even use the ISP's own computers and connections to copy it or to email it to himself. He can "use, or cause to be used, any copying equipment or means of telecommunication at the place."

Finally, note that such all-encompassing searches require no warrant, and don't even have to be in the context of a criminal investigation.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/02/16/pol-vp-terry-milewski-bill-c30.html

And Toews says he didn't even know it was in there on P & P.

I'd bet John Baird knows something the NDP wish he didn't.

NDP, Liberals deny knowledge of Twitter account, leaked details

The House of Commons has launched an investigation into who is behind a Twitter account that has been exposing purported personal details of the divorce of Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

The opposition NDP and Liberals said Friday they were not involved in the tweets and that the focus on how Toews' private life was spilled online distracted from the debate about government legislation affecting personal privacy online.

The political fracas erupted after a report in the Ottawa Citizen linked the source of the Twitter feed to an IP address connected to the House of Commons.

House Speaker Andrew Scheer was "looking into" the matter, the Commons was told, after Toews said he wanted a formal investigation to root out the source of the Twitter account.

However, the investigation won't be simple. According to the Speaker's office, whenever any of the more than 4,000 House of Commons Inter-net users goes online, they are identified publicly through one of four IP addresses.

As an example, if there were 100 users using the Internet at once from the House of Commons, they would all be identified with one of those four addresses - making it almost impossible to easily trace the IP address to one user.

Despite the uncertainty about who may have been behind the account, the Conservatives accused the NDP of being responsible. However, the Tories did not provide any evidence that the opposition parties were involved.

During question period, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird called the Twitter account a "nasty, dirty, Inter-net trick" that he blamed on the NDP. "Not only have they stooped to the lowest of the lows, but they have been running this nasty Internet dirty-trick campaign with taxpayers' money," Baird said.

After question period, NDP MP Chris Charlton rose in the House to demand an apology, saying Baird had made an "unfounded allegation" against her party.

"I call on the minister to table in the House any evidence that he may have to back up his unfounded claim," she said of Baird. "And if he doesn't have such evidence, I would like him to immediately apologize and withdraw his statements unconditionally."

Liberal MP Wayne Easter said he is "confident" his party was not involved in the tweets and that the person - or people - responsible could have come from anywhere, even outside the House of Commons.

Easter said he didn't condone the posting of information.

Toews decried the tweets in an inter-view with CBC Radio program The House.

"If you want to come out and attack me personally and say that I'm not a nice person, that I'm a bad person, I've got horrible sins on my chest, that's fine. But don't use the anonymity of government resources to do that," Toews said in the interview to be aired Saturday.

The tweets began late Tuesday night and were posted directly in response to the introduction of the government's Internet surveillance bill. The legislation requires Internet service providers and cellphone companies to install equipment for real-time surveillance and it will create new police powers designed to access the surveillance data.

A "sad" example of our tax dollars at work? Oh yeah, that'd be Vic Toews basically calling everyone who believes in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms a pedophile.

Another sad example of our tax dollars"at work" is the 15% of every tax dollar going to Ottawa being given to the banksters, just to cover the interest on our federal debt.

Far as the Vikileaks thing - Whoever did that is a hero, poetic justice is extremely poetic.

Toews speaks out on Twitter turmoil in letter to constituents

Manitoba's senior MP Vic Toews says he and his family have been the target of criminal acts and threats of criminal acts, in a wide-ranging letter to his constituents in his Provencher riding.

The letter is a response to a week in which his divorce details were released online and he was mocked relentlessly on Twitter.

The letter ranges from undetailed revelations of threats against his family, which he said he has reported to the police, to strong declarations of devotion to his present family. He does not detail in what way he and his family have been threatened by criminal acts, or whether he is only referring to the release of private details of the breakup of his previous marriage.

Toews, the federal minister for public safety, has come under attack following the introduction of his proposed online surveillance legislation in the House of Commons. Critics say it threatens the privacy of law-abiding people.

First, details of his divorce were posted on Twitter, in apparent retaliation. Then, via the Twitter hashtag #TellVicEverything, people described to Toews the most quotidian details of their lives.

What Toews wrote

An Open Letter To My Constituents

Dear Constituents,

Over the last few weeks I have been subjected to an extensive personal attack by my political opponents as a result of certain legislation that I have introduced in the House of Commons on behalf of the federal government.

These attacks, which have included criminal acts and threats of criminal acts against me and my family, have been referred to the police for investigation. Any further criminal activity or threats of criminal activity against me or my family will also be referred to the police.

As my constituents I would like you to know that the personal attacks, criminal acts and threats of future criminal acts against me will not dissuade me from carrying out my responsibilities as an elected Member of the House of Commons and as the Minister of Public Safety for Canada.

The personal attacks against me are based on allegations contained in affidavits filed in the course of my divorce proceedings a number of years ago. The affidavits are on the public record and filed with the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench. These allegations have been the basis of prior personal attacks against me and I assume they will form the basis of attacks against me for many years to come.

I want you to know that I have never responded publicly to the specific allegations made in these affidavits nor will I ever do so. I will be fully accountable for any responsibility that I bear for the breakdown of my previous marriage but that accountability is not something I owe to the public generally or to my political opponents in particular. It is a personal accountability which I cannot avoid nor do I seek to do so.

However, I do want you to know that I have a spouse and a young son who I love more than life itself.

The other night, while I was reading my favourite poet, William Butler Yeats, I came across these lines:

'Yet they that know all things but know That all this life can give us is A child's laughter, a woman's kiss.''

No words could ever describe my love for my young son and my spouse any better. What a fortunate man I am to have them in my life.

Sincerely,

Vic Toews

MP for Provencher

The letter is a response to a week in which his divorce details were released online and he was mocked relentlessly on Twitter.

Not criminal acts.

The letter ranges from undetailed revelations of threats against his family, which he said he has reported to the police

Probably either because there were no threats or like some people…..he takes anything said as a threat. He seems like the type.

Over the last few weeks I have been subjected to an extensive personal attack by my political opponents as a result of certain legislation that I have introduced in the House of Commons on behalf of the federal government.

That’s funny…..coming from a person who is a member of a party that,….. as an article I read recently said…..they wrote the book on personal attacks.

The affidavits are on the public record and filed with the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench. These allegations have been the basis of prior personal attacks against me and I assume they will form the basis of attacks against me for many years to come.

Sort of like having a child from an affair. Just won’t go away…..do they Vic. Here’s the thing Vic Toews….he wants people to pay for their mistakes for years and years and years…..but he want his forgotten. It don’t work that way buddy boy.

I came across these lines:

'Yet they that know all things but know That all this life can give us is A child's laughter, a woman's kiss.''

Anyone got one of those bags from behind the seat in a plane?

He wanted to be a big shot politician. He wanted to take away the rights and privacy of Canadian citizens. Now he wants us to listen to poetry to save his butt. Sorry Vic.....you're howling at the moon.
