Completed listing search lacks "items sold" filter
Feb 7, 2012 06:23 PM

I have thought about this many times over the years. So here is a question for Ebay (Kalvin?).

Why doesn't ebay have a filter on completed listings to allow a search for sold items only? With all the free auctions, store listings in core search, etc. it is harder to sort through completed listings when doing research for pricing items for sale.

It may be nice to know what others are listing items for (and those that won't sell at that price), but it would be REALLY helpful to be able to see which items actually sold, without looking at unsold items.

The green colour in completed listings is helpful, but there can be a lot of listings to go through unless you are narrowing down to a very specific item.

Two other sites I have checked out have this option "see items sold only", or "items sold in the last 30 days", etc.

Can ebay please add this feature?

I'm actually surprised it does not, unless I am missing something obvious?

Thanks

I totally agree with you. I don't really care about the unsold items, I want to see the SOLD .

I do not think you will ever see that kind of filter on eBay complete listing. However, stranger things happen on eBay.

eBay sells the completed data information to companies like Terapeak who offer tools to search the completed data at a subscription price to sellers.  eBay will not give up the revenue it makes selling the completed data to these companies. If it started filtering the completed data on eBay directly, then it would make these companies unhappy with the competition as they would lose customers.

eBay allows 2 weeks of completed information to be shown on eBay search. Some categories are expanding the search (collectibles) to more than 2 weeks as per recent announcements. I found that to be a strange move on eBay's part because it would possibly affect companies like Terapeak.

Perhaps eBay will compete with Terapeak with its own subscription based research tools. eBay is always looking for ways to make more money.

I had a year subscription to Terapeak last year and access to 365 days of data (90 days of recent listings) on ebay.com USA, ebay.ca Canada and UK, Germany, Australia, France.  The ebay.com USA was the most important one to have for me. The ebay.ca just had too few sales. I always found my own sales on ebay.ca! Average pricing was useful to see what you could list an item at.  Listings were shown from highest sold price to lowest sold price then highest unsold to lowest unsold price.

However, I had my Terapeak account when ebay had the 99-cent free auction listings.  This skewed the sales data on prices badly as many items sold at 99 cents (with high shipping). Forced averages down a lot. So you had to look at individual listings to get a feel for a good price for an OOAK item.

Thanks for the info on Terapeak. That would explain the lack of fitlers on completed listings.

Perhaps, though a simple "sold items" filter on the last 2 weeks completed listings isn't too much to ask.

Can someone from Ebay respond to this question? Is it something that can be done for sellers (especially more casual ones that don't really need a Terapeak subscription).

thanks.

YES!!  I agree.  I'd love that feature.......... and wouldn't it be nice to be able to look back through the years to see what items were selling for a decade ago?

I use the watch feature a lot and often have it loaded up to the 200 item limit most of the time so that I can keep tabs on what's selling.

When I look at the completed items I've been watching, one of my accounts has a column which shows the number of bids an item had (if any)........

but I've never been able to figure out how to get that to show on my other accounts.

Does anyone know?

it*s-not-me: I'm glad I can help you with something :) Here's how to show the number of bids:

My Ebay -> Watch List

Edit -> Customize

Choose your own -> click on the option “#bids”
