Nightmare senario

At 3:00pm Monday a guy from Pennsylvania buys radio for $149 and asks if I can send it to him overnight, because he needs to use it for a movie prop. He has never been a buyer before - but has been registered with eBay since 2003 - I thought that was kind of weird. I Googled his name and he is in fact a recognized video producer. Since the radio is already packed, I checked the Post Office site and the Worldwide Priority Post was $180 and sent him the info thinking - no way. I also told him it would take 2 days as I live in a small town. He got back to me and said ok, so I send him an invoice for $180 - he paid immediately.
I really had some second thoughts about this - but took it to the Post Office - it actually cost me $187.20. The Post Office told me it would be couriered and the expected delivery time was 10:00 am Wednesday (today) and I passed that on to him along with the tracking number. There is also a signature requirement with Priority and I sent the tracking number to PayPal.
It is now late Wednesday night and the tracking number only tells me that it was delivered to my local Post Office at 4:45 pm Monday - nothing else. It should have been delivered early this morning.
I am actually afraid to contact this guy and ask him if he got it. I know it's stupid - but at this point no news is good news.
Anyone have any experience with Worldwide Priority Post? I understand Canada Post just shops it out to a Courier Service and is that why the tracking number will not work. You would think the guy would contact me by now if he did not get it.
I just have a feeling I am going to get hammered on this one. Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it again. Crazy enough to try

Had a buyer from France buy a shirt last fall & much like you wanted it quickly. Had no issue paying the extra amount, just over fifty, & the shirt arrived in less than a week.
Never paid much attention to the tracking but the item arrived & excellent feedback was left.
Have found that the high shipping prices for quick delivery have always worked out.
Hope that helps ease your mind.

I wouldn't contact him. IF there is a problem, I'm sure you'll hear about it. Let sleeping dogs lie!

"it was delivered to my local Post Office at 4:45 pm Monday - nothing else."
Go to www.usps.com and enter the Canada Post tracking number

It takes at least 24 hours for Canada Post to update their tracking numbers in Canada never mind from out of the country.
I would give the tracking number at least 48 hours to be updated on the system.
I would also think if the guy paid that much for shipping and didn't get it on time he would be letting you know very quickly.
Do not be afraid to ask him, shows you are concerned and want to ensure he got his item. Better to ask and deal with it as soon as possible then to leave it and have what seems like a great buyer turned off your items due to communication issues.

Yep it got worse. I just called Canada Post, they jobbed out the delivery out to Fedex. The tracking number works on their site. They transferred my call to Fedex, who told me the package had been late for pickup in Edmonton and that it was left in the Memphis sort station by mistake and it will be delivered tomorrow morning. That is two day later than the stated delivery time. They were very apologetic.
Pierre, I took your advice and immediately emailed the fella with the bad news - he has not got back to me yet.
If he is not happy - he could send me the item back using first class US mail for about $30. I will be out the balance of the original shipping amount - $157 - that's not good.
Fedex did tell me I could request a refund after the package has been delivered. That way I could pass it on to the customer and make him happy. I wonder what the chances of that is? I have passed that information on to the buyer. Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it again. Crazy enough to try

I work at an outlet and would NEVER recommend Worldwide Priority. Most of the time Xpresspost US is delivered in the same amount of time for significantly less cost.

The chances? 100%, all you have to do is apply for it and you will get a full refund of the shipping you paid. The service you used has a delivery gurantee, only extreme weather or political unrest negates the guarantee.

3 pm Monday would have been 5pm eastern if you're in Alberta, so maybe the buyer wasn't seriously hoping for overnight that very same day. So if the 2-day delay was acceptable to him, then he may have been expecting it Thursday. If it does arrive tomorrow, my guess is everything is going to be ok. *fingers crossed* !!

I think eBay must make us somewhat jaded, but my faith in humanity has been restored, here is an email I got from the buyer.
Hi C++++
Thank you very much for the follow up email. As long as it arrives tomorrow I should be ok. I really appreciate you checking up on the order. Hopefully the shoot tomorrow morning will still be salvageable.
Thanks again,
J++++

Sounds good!
Don't forget to carefully check the actual delivery time against the guranteed time.
If it was late you should be able to get the entire $187 refunded. You can then deal with the question of what to do with it.....put it in your pocket or share it with your buyer.
I've done some business with movie prop people in the past, money is rarely an issue for them.

The nightmare continues - Fedex tried to deliver it, this Morning and no one answered the door. They left a message on the door and now they will not be delivering it until Monday. What a mess. I don't think I will consider Priority US ever again.
Actually this is about the third movie prop radio I have sent and they always want fast delivery. You are right though, usually money has never been a problem.
Question: It requires a signature, what happens if it is not delivered? Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it again. Crazy enough to try

You be no charge for the return but I'm not absolutely positive. If a notice was left this morning the buyer should be able to pick it up this evening or over the weekend if it's still of use to them.
If it is returned of course they can start a dispute (for non-receipt) but why would they since you would be issuing a refund anyway.
Like I said before, since the delivery time was missed you should get a refund of the shipping. In the end you might be out some eBay fees but that would be all.
Make sure to confirm with the buyer that a notice was left and that they can pick it up if they don't/can't wait until Monday.

They attempted delivery 10:00 am last Friday ( two days late). I emailed the buyer and told him it was in. He picked it up at 3:00 pm the same day. He did not get back to me.
I have requested a refund for late delivery - still waiting a response. If I get it, I will put it back in his account, minus the overage I paid.

Don't even think about it.
We strongly discourage using it (for outside the country) where I work. It simply doesn't work...especially when you don't live in a major centre.

International delivery service with a guaranteed delivery date are great, half the time you get your money back.
I know some sellers in the US who use Express Mail (similar to our Xpresspost), it comes with a guaranted delivery date for most countries, these sellers get full refunds for more than half the packages they send!

Now I understand why many sellers will only ship with that method instead of Priority Mail. I didn't know.

I would like some advice here.
The buyer just got back to me a week after delivery and tells me the radio does not work and since he paid for overnight delivery and it was not delivered overnight he wants his money back. He said it was not as described, but has not opened a dispute.
I have told him to mail it back to me and I will give him a full refund for the radio and the Priority Post Cost.
So here is the dilemma - he likely used the radio in the video and now has no use for it and wants to return it - ok fine. But he can mail it back to me for under $30.00 and I paid $187.20 for Priority Post - am just out of luck for the difference or is there anything, I can do. It was the buyer that insisted on using Priority Post.
Something tell me I should learn a tough lesson on this one and just swallow it and move on. Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it again. Crazy enough to try

Are you not going to get a refund of the $187.20?
