Buyer beware eBay IS refusing shipping Computer Parts to Canada
Summary: timber_oak shares their frustration with eBay's international shipping practices after their purchase of a network switch was liquidated and the company refused to ship to Canada, causing a loss due to exchange rate fees. They emphasize eBay's failure in communication, leaving buyers unaware they may not receive products, which could violate consumer rights. marnotom! and aramatic contribute to the discussion, questioning eBay's actions and policies, while touching on broader implications related to international regulations possibly influenced by previous political decisions.
I purchased a Network Switch and eBay International Hub liquidated it, eIS straight up refusing to ship to Canada yet holding payment for weeks. When I got refunded, I already lost $40 from exchange rate fees.
eBay customer service repeats "it was refunded" and don't care.
When you see this message:
"Unfortunately, your item can not be delivered because it did not pass inspection at our international hub."
What does this mean?
You likely ordered from Consumer Electronics, Computer Components & Parts category
eBay is following some eWaste regulation by Trump administration, refusing to ship items which may end up in "China"
eBay is conflating "Canada" with somehow being avenue for export to "China" and overstepping
What can I do about it?
Buy Canadian
Ask sellers to ship directly but 99% won't
eBay international shipping has become unusable, unless you're buying trinkets.

·1 month ago · EditedIn a nutshell. Just another useless bit of Trump spite against Canada. He wants our critical minerals, which he'll never get, so instead he's hoarding PCBs! Certainly frustrating to see eBay falling into line without a murmur. Thanks for posting. PS. Just noticed that an EMPTY disk drive case can't be sent to Canada. You can't make this stuff up (well, Trump can).

OP1 month ago · EditedI can post in any forum I choose. Interesting you’ve been here since 2004 with thousands of posts defending ebay but only 10 feedback. The facts remain: eBay failed to inform buyers and sellers. Customers deserve to know upfront they won't get anything, may incur costs, and wasted weeks.

I read it. Doesn't change fact eBay never informed buyers and sellers and never gave them an option to use USPS or FedEx, period.
Yet eBay continues to advertise availability of items which likely violate Consumer Rights in Quebec when knowingly customers won't get anything, but payment gets taken.

·1 month ago · EditedSellers have the option of using shipping methods in addition to eBay International Shipping. Most of them prefer not to use that option, for various reasons.
We really don't know how badly eBay communicated this development to sellers as not all sellers post to the eBay community boards. I did find it interesting that when I did a search for servers (see the other thread), none of the listings from the US had eIS offered for shipping to Canada, so word must be getting out somehow.
It's become really difficult to maintain a decent discussion when extraneous material keeps getting brought into the conversation in a manner that makes no sense, at least in English. Before I bail out, let me leave you with this question: Given that electronics is one of eBay's largest and most lucrative categories, why would it choose to restrict sales outside of the US by disabling the use of its own shipping system that you claim is such a big profit maker for them?

OP1 month agoWHY is it reasonable to collect payment for Electronics saying items are "going to arrive soon", only to trash them at eBay US Hub and never deliver to Canada?
eBay needs to disable International Shipping Program on every listing if buyers are never going to get what they ordered.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

·1 month agoSince most of the time, buyers who ship items that are forwarded through eIS receive their items, there's no need to disable the program according to your logic.
