For anyone expecting anything via eIS and DHL
MONTREAL — Unifor says DHL Express Canada locked out workers just after midnight today as the two sides failed to reach a contract deal, injecting more labour turmoil into the country’s parcel delivery market.
The union, which represents 2,100 truck drivers, couriers and warehouse workers across seven provinces, says they went on strike in response at 11 a.m. ET.
Unifor says the German-owned carrier is proposing to change the driver pay system and planning to use replacement workers before legislation banning them comes into effect on June 20.
The work stoppage, which affects package delivery across the country, comes as Canada Post remains at loggerheads with 55,000 workers, whose union last month imposed an overtime ban that scales back parcel services.
The fun never ends!!!

·1 year agoHelp needed.
I'm in Canada. I cancelled an order from the U.S. and printed a prepaid shipment label with International eBay carrier DHL to return the item. DHL was supposed to pick up the item on June 16, but never showed up.
There is no way to reach DHL staff. I have no instructions from eBay and cannot find any information eBay's handling of DHL's lockout in Canada.
Anyone has any clues?
Thanks.

Are you able to void the label within ebay? Alternative plan would be get in touch with ebay help via facebook or twitter and ask them to cancel (void) for you. Worth a shot!!

Cancel the DHL label. Eventually you will be refunded.
Go to Canada Post (or another courier) and print out a label.
If you have a Solutions for Small Business account with Canada Post, you can print it from there and also get a discount from counter rates
Manually add the tracking number to the dispute.

·1 year agoI just got an update of an order from the US, via eIS. It is being shipped via DHL...ugh. It may get stuck in limbo for a while.
All other orders from the US have been shipped via Asendia/Intelcom/Dragonfly.

·1 year agoAsendia/Intelcom/Dragonfly are the last mile delivery agents. DHL would have handled the transit between the hub in the US and the hand off to the last mile delivery agent. I believe DHL are the only one that handles that part of the trip. But i'm not sure the strike will effect that part of the journey since it's only the Canadian arm of DHL that is on strike.

·1 year agoI thought that was the case, but the last three orders that I've received via eIS -DHL were actually delivered locally by DHL Canada. So, that is why I am worried about this particular order.

OP1 year agoDHL or 1 of their agents would handle anything to major points. If you are rural = boonies items get handed off to CP.
Yes, it is common for DHL to hand off packages to Canada Post for the final delivery in rural areas within Canada. This often occurs due to cost-effectiveness and the established Canada Post network in those areas.
Issue being how long would the delay be on parcels getting handed off if they are trapped in the DHL stream with the shutdown/lockout. Until anything is resolved items would be stopped in their tracks.

·1 year agoI guess they are going for the "one of their agents" option, now that they locked out their employees in Canada.
The order I mentioned is now marked to be delivered locally by TForce (first time I've heard of them):

I got 1 last week from Amazon...forwarded from China...Original courier of record was YUN Express. It got passed on to PDN Express. They don't have any offices I could find in Canada. Everything is done from home. The phone numbers ring and disconnect. I emailed and took 7 days for a response. Item was dropped on step 2nd day of it being Calgary. According to a google search PDN uses CP. Does not look like that is what happened. Fortunately low value and no customs fees.
Going forward expecting anything from anywhere outside of Canada be ready for the possibility of surprises when it comes to deliveries.

·1 year agoI got a package delivered on Jun.7/25. Puchased through eIS shipped through DHL and delivered by Apple Express. Just in time I guess, thanks for the heads up....

·1 year agoThis will also probably effect anyone who buys from Europe, especially Germany and Austria as many of those items are shipped DHL to Canada.
Would this effect items shipped by DHL that are handed off to other carriers for last mile delivery as soon as they get to Canada? eg EIS......where DHL transports the package TO Canada but hands off to a variety of other carriers for last mile delivery, and DHL Paket which does the same, transports the package TO Canada but then hands off, usually to Canada Post.

·1 year agoI'm not worried, eIS will find away around the DHL labor dispute. I purchased two other items through eIS on the weekend and I will update here when they arrive.

·1 year agoThree packages delivered this week. One by AppleExpress (lower price item) and two by Intelcom. All shipped from eIS through DHL to Canada.
So I don't think there will be any problems purchasing from US sellers using eIS during the Canadian DHL strike.

A "lockout" is the management going on strike.
The workers were negotiating and working.
Fun fact, during a lockout the management gets their weekly paychecks.
When on strike, the union workers are not being paid.
marnotom!
·1 year agoDHL also seems to be a reasonably popular choice for non-eBay online merchants and eBay sellers who ship directly to Canada, so Canadian buyers should be aware that this isn't strictly an eIS thing.
