Paid $250 total for an item (with shipping inc.) and seller put value of over $300 on custom form
Summary: rcr.stephen expresses concern over a discrepancy between the declared customs value of a purchase and what was actually paid, leading to higher import taxes. lotzofuniquegoodies provides a link for reassessment by Canadian customs, mentioning couriers might include shipping in the declared value. marnotom! suggests there are no eBay rules requiring overvaluation and proposes the values might have been misinterpreted or misreported, potentially involving currency differences. reallynicestamps clarifies that import fees are based on the purchase price, not the total payment, advising to contact CBSA for fee reversal and consider feedback for the seller. The discussion focuses on resolving possible customs declaration misunderstandings after a purchase on eBay.
The response from the seller
"Dear Sir/Mam
The query you asked is according to the rules of eBay by default.
We don't import any taxes or extra prices.
Regards"
the value should be less than $200 since the price includes the international shipping but the seller is saying eBay puts value of over $300 ,I'm paying higher import taxes due to this ,why would eBay rules put the import value higher than what was actually paid?

·2 years agoDo you mean the seller priced the listing as $200 plus $50 shipping?
Or as $250 with Free Shipping? (and you calculate the value of the shipping to be $50?)
Either way, the import fees are on the purchase price, not the payment you made. The seller is supposed to declare the purchase price.
You can contact CBSA with your invoice and get those import fees reversed.
I won't promise it will be fast, but since you are over the $150 duty free and $40 tax free allowances, it may be worth spending the time- remembering that time is money.
You have 60 days to consider what feedback to leave the seller.
The audience for your feedback is their future customer. Discussions of how the transaction went down belong in Messages.

·2 years agoEither the seller has misunderstood eBay recommendations not to declare the item’s value as lower than the selling price or else they’re trying to snow you with their cryptic English.

·2 years agoHere is the link if you would like a reaccessment by Canada customs. It should explain the information required. Couriers etc "can" include shipping as part of the declared value.
