Why force USD transaction if both of you live in Canada?

I, the buyer, live in Canada and want to pay for an item in CAD. The seller also lives in Canada, but is selling their item in USD.
Why is this the case? Both of us live in the same country (and province in this case), but the buyer is required to pay in USD? It doesn’t make sense because the buyer needs to pay a foreign transaction fee. The item isn’t located outside the country. Also, completing transactions in the local currency (CAD) is better for our economy rather than using some other countries currency.
Anyway, just curious as to why some sellers are stubborn over this? It doesn’t make logical sense to me from a buyer’s perspective.

Hi @caveofcards! You may see a choice of payment currency options at checkout. For example, if you live in Canada, and want to pay for an item located in the US, you may see the option to pay in either CAD or USD.
If you choose to pay in your local currency and it’s different from the currency the item is listed in, you’ll see the exchange rate along with the order total in your local currency at checkout. You’ll also see the currency you used in the order details in your confirmation email.

·1 year agoThat doesn't explain why the seller is quoting USD. He's in Canada, I'm in Canada, the products are being shipped from Canada, why would there be USD involved in this trans action? There should be no currency exchange rate in my opinion.

·1 year agoIf Canadian sellers are listing on.COM they MUST list in USD. If Canadian sellers are listing on .CA, they MUST list in CDN.

He is listing and selling on eBay DOT COM the US site, which reaches customers all around the world.*
There is a much bigger customer base in the USA.
Americans are parochial, provincial and xenophobic.
They do not understand that other countries exist and have different currencies.
So to get their money, Canadians (and Germans and Chinese and Lithuanians) list on dotCOM.
Dot COM only allows sellers to list in US dollars.**
When you shop on dot COM you see prices in US dollars.
Now here's the hard part.
When you shop on dot COM, you will see the prices in US dollars.
When you shop on dotCA, you will see the prices in loonies.
BUT
If the seller listed on dot COM, and will ship anywhere in the world, a buyer from that country, will ALSO see the price in their own currency.
Your credit card will be charged in loonies.
But the foreign exchange rate changes constantly -- and then there is a dementia sufferer fooling about with American import policies.
*so does dotCA, but few Australians will ever find the dotCA site.
**dot DE (Germany) only allows listings in euros. DotIN (India) only allows listings in rupees. etc.
