Calculated Shipping Bug: Combined weight multiplying incorrectly into kilograms for light TCG items
Summary: oinkon is facing an issue with the calculated shipping for multi-item orders involving trading cards. The system incorrectly multiplies the weight, causing small orders to appear extremely heavy and significantly increasing shipping costs. The author uses a standard weight combination rule but finds it mathematically flawed. They are seeking advice or a workaround to prevent the inflated shipping calculations.
Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a severe issue with calculated shipping on multi-item orders for trading cards.
Each of my card listings is set up with an individual package weight of 20g (dimensions 15x10x1 cm). However, when a buyer purchases multiple cards and uses calculated shipping with Canada Post Expedited Lite, the system multiplies the weight in a completely broken way—inflating a small handful of cards into nearly 2.88 kg in the cart!
This drives the shipping cost up to absurd amounts (over $32), scaring away buyers and breaking combined orders. I am using the standard "Combine all item weights" rule, but it seems mathematically bugged .
Has anyone else encountered this, and is there a workaround to prevent the system from multiplying weights exponentially? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

·1 week agoGood day. There are a few work arounds one way is to turn off the "require immediate payment feature" which will allow a buyer to "request total" and invoice so you can invouce them an updated order cost. Now if they have multiple items in there cart from other stores it can make it so the requeat total button doesnt appear. You will have to let the buyer know to select all of the items of yours and proceed to checkout where they can then request a total. I do believe you have to have "require immediate payment turned off" for the buyer to have that option. You have to go to your shipping prefrences section in your account settings that allows your buyer to request invoives for that section. The 2nd option is to go into your shipping prerfrences and go into combined shipping rules. Then select" combine all item weights and subtract an amount" which will allow you to subtract 15 or so grams from each card. Now when you create this rule as it is for TCG Cards you will have to go into your cards shipping policy and specifically add that TCG rule to your TCG shippung policy. So if you have a blanket policy for all items then you will need to create a TCG specific policy and add that rule to that new policy or every item in your store will deduct 15 grams for each item. I basically have shipping policies for each major category based on items under 200 grams those between 201 to 1000 and those 1001 to 1999 grams those. Those weight breakdowns are more critical for flat rate when shipping to the USA or International that is a whole other disscussion as i just use EIS now with all the ever changing charges and tarrifs lol. No muss no fuss for the time being. Anyway the third option is to let the buyer buy it and refund them. Or you can let them know in your listings that you will refund any shipping over costs after checkout but you will have to specify that for domestic buyers only as EIS buyers might start asking for huge refunds lol. So in other words try options One and Two and If there is an over cost to your buyer just refund them, Or you could look into some domestic flat rate policies requiring lets say 10 cents a card. There is a a fourth way but that is where things get more complicated lol I learned the insides and outs of shipping policies during the three postal strikes. They are very powerful when used properly and quite dangerous when you dont know how to use them lol . Try 1 and 2 first. Those are most recommend. I would make a card specific shipping policy first and try it with two listings. Take two listings end them. Build a new shipping policy then use that policy in those two listings and relist them as a test and then use your seperate account to look at what your buyer sees and see if you can invoice or etc, Also is you ever sell similar off of other peoples listings you do import their policies. Also its very important to make sure your policies dont crossover into other policies. Btw when you start your new listing make sure to go to the box that says use combined shipping rule. Check that box and select the new TCG rule you created to make sure it gets applied to that policy and the specfic category (TCG in your case) You can make new calculated rules for any category you would like. Once you get it though youll be good sometimes it just takes work and practice. Hope this helps
