EBAY CANADA SHIPPING PAYING FOR LABLE
Summary: 33nhl shared issues with eBay Canada's label purchasing system, noting unexpected charges 10-15 days post-purchase despite providing ample package weight and size. ypdc_dennis explained that Canada Post's system charges based on rates at the label's first scan, which can result in fuel surcharges if they increase. 33nhl noted this problem also occurs with UPS labels bought through eBay. Participants discussed record-keeping challenges and the differences between direct Canada Post purchases and those through eBay. reallynicestamps mentioned that despite adjustments, eBay often offers better prices than Canada's SfSB card.
I have noticed since DEC 2025 when i started to use more often ebay canada lables that when you scroll down to purchase the lable, it does not have a section option to select method of payment.
Thus i click to purchase the lable and get billed like 10-15 days later.
iv been told by others should be able to pay at that said time upon purchasing a lable no matter the shipping provider selected.
The other thing if i created and purchased a lable for $12.85 when i do get billed i get charged more then what it was showing originally.
Ebay reps cant give answer to the issue and its now September.
All packages i always add extra weight and size measurements thus im always over the actual size weight being sent. but i get charged more then what is shown on the Ebay page 10-15 days later,
This has been going on since DEC 2025 the amounts sometimes are $0.10 cents to high $2.25 in when i purchase the lable to when Ebay bills me for it.
Has any one had similar issues, how was it resolved??

·1 month ago@33nhl It goes back to August 2025.
I had 2 process the other day from about 1 week ago. One was charged slightly higher. 2nd one a couple of bucks lower. Main problem being is eBay does not include an explanation behind the discrepancy. When you open the line it is total only. According to eBay's label page charges are processed as follows:
Payment by seller account
Once the shipping label has been used, the amount due will be automatically deducted from your funds or charged to your on-file payment method in a few days.
I've seen 3/4 days and 10 to 15 days. The other "supposed" disclaimer if label is not used you will not be billed. There have been reports of this not being true and/or double charges when a label is created twice. There is no longer anything built into the eBay's system for generating a void like there is if you went directly to CP/UPS/Fedex/NetParcel/Shippo.
@ypdc_dennis The charges "should be" based on the date label was generated. Not on the scan because of floating fuel surcharges and tax being applied. The buyer gets charged shipping based on that billing date. This was never an issue first 3 years of eBay labels. My charges were 99.9% accurate because I am very diligent with measuring and weighing accurately. Now it is closer to 55% match/45% non match. Even if it is pennies it is still a discrepancy.
This was never a problem when eBay was charging consistently within a normal 2/3 day window. Only when that internal change was made that had no announcement. Even when that 3 day window changed to 10 +- intermittently. The charges still jived.

Disclaimer 1:
Is your package size correct?
Please make sure you enter the correct package size and dimensions to avoid additional charges from your chosen carrier (i.e., enter 14 when it weighs 13.2 oz)
Disclaimer2:
Minimum 23 x 20 x 2.5cm. (What happened to round up?) Maximum weight 250g, length 41cm and L x W x H 3,220cm³.
Entered 16 x 13 x 8 cm 240 grams.
Shipment and cost details: 13 x 16 x 8 cm (Note: Numbers have been resorted/reorganized by eBay)
(Are those the figures the math is based on when cubing kicks in? The measurements entered should never be switched/mangled. Only amended if numbers are entered incorrectly/inaccurately.)
Label details. 5 x 5 x 5cm 0.240 Label cost
Payment on use <---- C $7.39 Created on August 12. Billed August 19. Actual charge 7.39
Example 2: Expedited created August 31 -- 19.78. Actual charge 17.97 - Difference - 1.81
Example 3. Expedited created August 25 -- 28.18. Actual charge 28.69 - Difference + 0.51
*************
The consistency is there is no consistency. Made worse by no explanation of what caused the increased charges when shipment is actually billed.
@ypdc_dennis Total agreement regarding a record keeping standpoint. Secondly if you are a seller who is flexible when it comes to refunding buyers for overpaid shipping this makes doing so even more challenging. We won't discuss when shipping magically gets inflated due to the fact there is NO system within eBay to re-bill buyer. As for the changes you mentioned an official change only noted within CP or was it passed on by eBay to buyers in some sort of an announcement? There have been users reporting concerns about bad charges going back to August last year. All we ever heard back was it was being passed on to the required parties. There was zippo for actual follow up?

·1 month agoCanada Post rolled out a new system of handling shipping labels in July 2025. Labels are now charged based on rates at the time of the first scan of the label.
If the fuel surcharge has increased in the time between when you bought the label scanned when it got the first scan you get charged extra. This also happens if you buy the label directly from the Canada Post website.
That said, there are also been additional bugs/issues with eBay Labels and unexpected Canada Post scan processing time delays to add to the mix.

OP1 month ago · EditedThanks for the info. but i also use canada post site for lables and i dont get charged extra at a later date, so its something thats happening between Ebay and Canada post but also with UPS when creating buying lable through Ebay. One would think that if you buy a create lable and purchase at the same time, should be no extra charges after, unless you under sized weight and size measurements of a package/parcel. lol i doubt they give you a refund if you put way over size and weight on a parcel lol. Oh plus when i create a lable, i ship next day at post office and they scan it, but with not allowed to pay at time creating thus by time Cnada post charges Ebay is a week or more, so under that method if fuel costs go up in week then can see they charge more but again i print today ship tomorrow should be same charge, think they both canada post ebay taking advantege of us

·1 month ago · EditedI had extra this week for labels bought direct from Canada Post on Sunday, mailed and scanned on Monday.
Xpresspost 10.08, 10.08 and 10.09 became 10.27, 10.27 and 10.26 when posted to my credit card. Fuel surcharge changes happen every Sunday night (up this week).
From a record keeping viewpoint, this a pain to track. My Canada Post label PDF shows one price and my credit card could have a different value.
Old method:
Pay as you go with locked in label price, cancellation of unused labels required to get money back.
New method:
Pay current price when label used, label cancellation not needed.

·1 month agoIf you're buying directly from Canada Post with the SfSB card, your account should have a monthly statement with all your shipping costs on it and tax broken out. There's one for lettermail and one for parcels.

·1 month agoTrue.
But even with the price 'adjustment' eBay has a better price in most cases than SfSB.
