Buyer in the US bought a coin set from me last night. Not long after I get a cancellation request with a message from the buyer explaining that because of the tariffs for Canada items, he can't afford that and wants to cancel.
Thing is, anything shipped unless it's UPS/FedEx (and possibly a few others) is DDP. I explained to the buyer that CBP is only accepting duties paid packages unless it's UPS/FedEx which I don't use.
He did write back to tell me to go ahead and ship. I might have been better of cancelling... turns out the item is made in South Africa which has a 30% tariff.

·9 months agoAt least he realizes that he will be paying a tariff.
Lucky break for you.
If he had Refused the delivery the situation would be more complicated.

EBay does not require* you to refund ANYTHING on a Refused shipment, which they consider Undeliverable.
EBay gave us some boilerplate over a decade ago which I have been putting in my Descriptions ever since.
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying
* Most sellers would refund the purchase price , but not the entire payment, when the item was returned.
However, the buyer still has recourse to their credit card chargeback policy.

OP9 months agoI ship with Stallion, they charge me the tariff, I extract it from the buyer with higher prices and higher shipping costs to the US. I also don't give discounts to US buyers the same way I do to all other buyers, because some of what I receive has to cover their tariff.
So since it was going Stallion, there was no possibility he'd refuse the package due to tariffs, Stallion was making me pay. My complaint was that it turned out to be a South Africa item which has a 30% tariff (that BRICS thing). So that kind of annoyed me. The rest of the South Africa stuff from that collection came down and will be priced even higher to deal with the 30% tariff, so in this case I might have been better off letting him cancel, but it's annoying me that US buyers are cancelling their orders, so I didn't want that to happen (even though cancelling was probably in my best interest financially).

OP9 months agoIt won't happen that often, they will be backing off and not buying and not talking to me... I won't even have a chance to try and talk people into buying, they won't even look at the listing because it's in Canada.
Anyway I'm trying to cope with tariffs and think I might be able to, but the Canada Post strike is taking away 80% of my orders right now, so that annoys me much more than the tariffs. I was doing kind of OK with the tariffs until the strike happened.
