Anyone know what's up with CUSMA right now?
I've been missing updates... anyone know where we're at with negotiating CUSMA?
I figure with the July 24th tariff changes that's an important data point to get sorted out.

·2 weeks agoNo he isn't. The things Trump's been asking for are already things that most Canadians, the other Premiers, etc have been very clear are non negotiable. I think that's why Trump is asking for them. I don't think he wants a deal, he just doesn't want to take the full blame for the negotiations failing. Besides, if Trump actually brings the new tariffs in then he's completely ignoring pretty much all of CUSMA, the deal that he himself signed. At that point, why would we even negotiate any further if he's probably just going to ignore any deal we do make on a whim? Heck, he just signed a deal with Saudi Arabia, then went back on it less than 24 hours later. He couldn't even stick to a major deal he made and signed for one full day...
The next little while isn't going to be pleasant, but we'll be fine - and as a country we'll come out of it in a much stronger position as we diversify trade and unlock our natural resources. Focus on the Canadian market. It's stronger than people give it credit for. Yes, losing the US market hurts a lot, but businesses have to adapt all the time to changing conditions. This is no exception, it's just more acute. It's also an opportunity to reevaluate and make changes to your business to set it up for more future success.
