Calculated shipping multiple units - Broken again!!!!!
Summary: lotzofuniquegoodies reported an issue with eBay's shipping calculator not updating rates when modifying purchase quantities. They observed that the system was not calculating shipping costs based on the number of units, potentially causing incorrect charges. uwantuneedgiftsandgoods suggested checking the flat rate domestic policy and adjusting costs per additional item, but also warned of complications with international tariffs. lotzofuniquegoodies emphasized that the system malfunction could lead to sellers suffering losses. devon@ebay assured that the issue would be forwarded to the appropriate team for review.

Just did a test on a long ago created listing with multiple units. It appears calculator is no longer doing the math.
sample listing attached. Rates DO NOT update when you modify purchase quantity within the listing.

Did not test from purchase screen. Checked personal settings and they were fine. "Combine all weights" is set. Appears shipping screen in listing no longer has a quantity box. (Shipping, pickup, returns, and payments form). With flat rate items and multiple units it states how much additional charge would be (where applicable) but DOES NOT do the math.
This could cause buyers potentially paying incorrect shipping/handling charge(s) if system is not doing math (across the board).

·1 month agoHey I just checked the listing and even up to 6 Items it shows the same flat rate of 16.65 I think it was. If you are looking to add an extra cost for each item. You can go into your flat rate domestic policy and there is a box that says something along the line of cost per additional item. Lets say you want to add and extra 1.50 per item put that into that secondary box and it will add that cost on for each new item that buyer has selected. I would be careful though and do this for domestic sales only. If you do this Flat Rate for Specific Countries other than Canada it can overide EIS if it's cheaper than eBay's cost as buyers will select it and that could cause havoc with Tarrifs and Customs. I swear regulators across the World have made it extremely difficult to do business they have regulated small business and even eBay into a corner. I just use EIS to avoid any mess with Tarrifs so I make sure that my Domestic Policy doesn't overlap. Also if you select the promotional shipping option it will overide EIS and EIS buyers will pay that promotional rate and you will be on the hook for tarrifs and import fees also just a heads up. Any I wish you well and I can check your listing if you like if you adjust it to add an additional fee for each item if you like

@devon@ebay Please pass this on to your IT dept asap please.
The big take away/problem is that the system is NOT working like it should. No idea how long this has been going on. Anyone who would have sold in multiples would have taken a hit due to no fault of their own.

·1 month agoMaybe Im not understanding your issue correctly, If you are usuing combine all weights that is specific to calculated shipping only. Flat rate means flat rate regardless of weight. I would suggest finding a price for adding additional items. Or maybe just adjust the listing to a calculated rate shipping policy and then eBay will auto combine weights. It will also allow you to use the expedited lite for single items and expedited parcel for larger orders . I think ithe overlap of using a flat rate policy so it wont allow the expedited lite for the buyer even though you can still buy a label the buyer is charged your flate rate no matter the order . it just shows me 16.49 even when ordering One Charger or Six Chargers . One way to change things would be to create a completely new shipping policy for it without flat rate and using your same carrier options and add it to one specific listing experiment with that and hopefully that can help,

OPSep 14, 2026 at 8:12 PM@devon@ebay Thanks. In the meantime any thoughts of a workaround when buyer is underbilled and pays according to the invoice eBay sends them?

·2 weeks agoIve only had it happen once and i had to eat the cost. I really have no idea how to recoup that kind of under payment from a buyer. One way is you can turn off the "require immediate payment which allows you to invoice a buyer" but this is usually only good for precheckout accepcted best offers sent from a buyer or when a buyer sends you as a seller a best offers that you accept. This allows precheckout invoicing and gives you estimated shipping rates. It also allows you to adjust for any type of extra discount you may want to give a buyer pre checkout. It also allows them to combine or add on more items over a few days before checking out. When using this method the buyer will have up to 4 days to pay for the order. As per recieving money from a buyer its tough to ask or get from them as it looks scammy to a buyer when you ask. If this is a regular occurence there may be something in your shipping policies whether iy is weight, or flate rate policies that are stopping the add on. If you have a specific listing this keeps happening with it and can link it. I will check it out to see if there is a noticable hicup. Guaranteed its something in your shiping policy if it is reoccuring. Ive only had it happen once in three years where a buyer was under charged. It also depends on if you are using lettermail, expidited light and other couriers for a lisitng, as calculated will respond based on weight. But a regular mail may throw off that calculation. Personally i only use expideted light and expedited parcel on eBay and thatbis all the buyer can pay for . So it typically just auto charges the correct ammount. When i go to buy the label once in awhile a UPS label might be a dollar or 2 cheaper so i can buy that label but the buyer ultimately pays the correct ammount when using tracked services. Also if you are using the flat rate make sure to go into your policies and charge an extra amount for each additional item. I remeber your charger listing. I could add multiples but it would still only charge shipping for one item. I know you didnt want to go into the policies last time but it may be time to check them out and make sure your flat rate has the cost per additional item box filled or ebay wont calculate on a flat rate thats why that box needs to be filled for all of your flate rate listings
