Canada Post Email - temp upgrade to Savings Level 4
Summary: Several participants discussed receiving an email about a temporary upgrade to Savings Level 4 for their Solutions for Small Business accounts. byto253 initiated the conversation, noting the promise of shipping discounts. However, many, including regs43 and codacloset, reported no immediate changes in their rates. ypdc_dennis confirmed a rate change after a weekend system maintenance. A few, such as ricarmic and jtg204, experienced errors, like receiving mismatched information or not receiving emails despite account upgrades. Others compared different shipping options to evaluate the best savings strategy.
Anyone else get this email?

·5 days agoIt's interesting to see some of the changes Canada Post is making. It appears they're really working to regain market share. I wouldn't be surprised to see deeper discounts be made more permanent for businesses.
I've noticed several 3rd party label companies now have new steep discounts (it really pays to shop around). Click Ship (under 500g) and Shipping Chimp in particular.
Canada Post is also starting to post job openings for weekend parcel delivery, possibly starting in September (at least for some areas).
Did anyone else notice that Canada Post has started their own e-commerce platform? It's only for Canadians (buyers and sellers), only for new product (especially made in Canada product), and geared towards people with a bunch of the same product rather than one-offs. Naturally you have to ship the product via Canada Post, and they'll have $10 flat rate shipping anywhere in Canada for up to 4kg. I thought that was pretty interesting, but it doesn't apply to the types of things that I sell. Maybe they'll use it as a test to eventually give businesses on other platforms some new competitive flat rate price options. Fingers crossed.

·5 days agoWell... I must say I am disappointed. I expected rates similar to those from before tariffs (I paid usually around $7.50 for US TP). Now, with the recent CP Level 4 I'm charged $11.26 + $1.99 Zonos. ;-(

·1 week agoHah! I just got another message today, this time it was correctly addressed to me and had my SSB number attached.....

·1 week ago · EditedAh, I join the group that didn't get an e-mail but it says level 4.
Also have it on another account that has $0 spend.
(update: got e-mails for both accounts now)
For USA shipments I would still save using netParcel instead for Tracked Packet USA (when duties are present). For 250-500g, it's $1 less on netParcel, and for something 1.5-2kg it's $4.53 less on netParcel than with Canada Post Level 4.
For my last domestic shipment, ebay/Shippo/netParcel give me the same $2.90 less than I would get with level 4 discount rate with SnapShip for expedited parcel. edit: Probably because the rate (same as shippo/netparcel etc.) are an additional 8% of the level 4 rates:

·1 week agoWhat about duty free items to USA? is it cheaper through netParcel than CP? How do you enter Zonos clearence #'s in netParcel?
jtg204
·1 week agoFor duty free, the Canada Post level 4 discount + Prepay app works out to less than netParcel + Zonos for packages up to 500g with Tracked Packet USA.
netParcel uses automatic billing, so every shipment has a Zonos fee of $1.99 in the same way SnapShip automatic billing does. You link to a Zonos verified account, and Zonos charges you later.

·1 week ago · EditedFor Tracked Packet - USA, here is a chart showing the difference between netParcel + Zonos $1.99 and SnapShip + Zonos $0 fee when no duties are collected and an ID is generated instead of using automatic billing:
And here is a comparison when duties do apply. If using prepay app and $2.99 fee instead, subtract $1 from the difference. This assumes Zonos fees are the same using automatic billing ($1.99), and only show the label cost without Zonos fees.
(Rates above change with the fuel surcharge changes)

·1 week ago · EditedI got the email but it was for someone OTHER than me, ie the name and account number and business name were not mine. The account number was close but was not mine.
Because I'm an over the counter kinda guy I don't have any stats, but I did log into my own account it did show my level as 4 (with my info correct although the email the account has is different than the email the notification came to).
I assumed it was a scam because the email did not have my name in the title as it normally does (didn't have the persons name that was in the note details inside in it either). Of course I did not click any links in the email so I cant tell you if they were live or not.

·1 week agoYes. I thought it might be related to giving my account a boost by allowing the person behind me in the PO line to use my card and get my discount, if any.
All those brownie points wasted.

·1 week agoI'm at level 4, but haven't shipped anything with it yet, and not sure if I'll be shipping on the CP website much in the future. Since I have access to Stallion they've made some destinations out west pretty affordable, and eBay's expedited lite is pretty good for small items requiring tracking.

·1 week agoNo email here either. I used to use my CP account on occasion. Now that most of us including me "rely" on eBay labels I don't see the need.
regs43
·1 week agoIt updated at Midnight, saved me 10 cents per Tracked Packet to the USA was already getting Level 3 from some glitch before (should have only been Level 2)
byto253
OP1 week agoNow, don't go too crazy with your new found wealth!!
byto253
OP1 week agoInteresting, hopefully the rate change will show up after the long weekend. That is when CP does a lot of their system updates.

·1 week agoJust checked my email account and that message showed up today. Signed on to my account and went through the steps to make a label with same info as a parcel I sent a few days ago and there is no difference in label cost.
However, Canada Post does regular system maintence Saturdays from 9:00 p.m. to Sundays at 7:00 a.m. (ET) which does effect shipping tools -- so maybe after that.
ypdc_dennis
·1 week agoRechecked the package sent 5 days ago.
It now shows $17.04 versus $19.69 for expedited (same fuel surcharge).

·1 week agoI got that email as well. My rates are still showing as the same Level 1 rates. I called the Small Business Solutions support line and they were only able to see that my account was upgraded to Level 4 and weren't able to tell me when I would be able to see the new lower rates. Maybe they will update on Tuesday after the holiday weekend?
