Canada post shipping rates have jumped up overnight
Summary: Participants are discussing a sudden increase in Canada Post shipping rates on eBay, particularly concerning the removal of discounts for Expedited Parcel. jtg204 notes that the discount is not showing and suggests considering other platforms to purchase labels more cheaply. esolutions_canada and chicweb express frustration with the rising costs affecting their sales and urge immediate action from eBay. There are concerns about potential overcharging and a flawed billing system, with some participants mentioning past unfulfilled promises of credits. The community is seeking updates from eBay representatives regarding this issue.

·4 months agoJust received my bill for an Xpressport label I bought when the Regular Expedited discount was removed due to a glitch. I was quoted $10.02 and now just got billed $12.03. Also, Expedited Lite to the eIS is still billed as regular Expedited. Funny how they can't even be bothered to bill the shipping labels correctly and have to steal money from us.

·4 months agoAppears to be fixed at least for now. A parcel we were holding on to for an extra day hoping for cheaper shipping was only $17 to ship today compared to the $27 it quoted us yesterday.

·4 months agoThe calculator (label purchase page) is showing discounts on Expedited Parcel again..
However 'Regular Parcel' rates (we shouldn't be using) have not been udpated when they are present on listings.

·4 months agoIt's not just the Expedited Shipping rates missing the discount, a lot of international rates have suddenly gone missing as well, I've had 6 international customers in the last 3 days ask for freight rates which should be there. And it's an ebay issue not a Canada Post issue as discounted rates are there on Netparcel & Shippo

·4 months agoInterestingly I've had some weird quotes from Shipping Chimp the last few days as well (some are fine, some appear to have no discount applied). I'm wondering if Canada Post's maintenance last weekend screwed something up.

Expedited Lite has been fine

·4 months agoI'm on the phone with eBay right now (Mar 26 5pm EST), got disconnected once already...They are aware and are "working" on it for three days now.
There is a ticket number for the issue if anyone wants to add themselves to it: EWATCHOP-370194
To talk to eBay directly: Go to eBat help.
Scroll down to contact us. Click on it. In the "chat" bar type: Call Me. Keep typing it in. Eventually it gives a choice to text or get a call back from a rep.
Stay polite. Have facts at your fingertips. Explain you are IN CANADA. They do not have a dedicated team for us so don't always understand.
The reps have a miserable job...it is not their fault so go easy (but firm) on them.

·4 months agoJust had to bite the bullet and pay $26 shipping on a $30 item we had with free shipping. It would've been less than $15 to ship likely before this started. We have now had to get rid of free shipping on all items $30 and lower.

·4 months agoWhy? Unless it's Expedited Lite, go buy the label somewhere else. Several places have rates very close or occasionally better than eBay's even when they're working correctly.
EasyShip, Click Ship (for non-Canada Post Labels), Shipping Chimp, NetParcel, etc. You may even find your shipping costs decrease.

Billing for eBay labels is trickling through....slowly, in no particular order. Each one I have checked lately has been higher that what was stated at time of label creation. When they are being billed it appears it is with the revised fuel surcharge and any tax. Without an included breakdown of charges next to impossible to tell what is going on. This is definitely a flawed billing system as it is operating currently.
This would be like a restaurant billing you once at your table and again when you walk out the door.

·4 months agoThe discounts for Expedited are back when selecting the service on listing creation/edit. The actual calculated shipping quote on listings still seems jacked up to me though. I have a listing that would have cost $5-6 last week to ship to myself now costing $10+. That can't just be from a raise in fuel surcharge?
danilovic05
·4 months agoOh, I think that Canada Post have substantially reduced their discounts (ie. raised rates for us) for Expedited shipping in a number of situations. I'm getting similar jacked up quotes for CP from other discounted shipping providers.
So yeah, this problem appears fixed from eBay's end, but CP has changed their Expedited discounts / pricing that they offer. It's not just an increase in fuel surcharge.

Now even the option to choose/use Regular parcel is MIA. Limited to Expedited undiscounted, Xpresspost discounted at 35% and Priority 39%. In an emergency you could use the prepaid products....if the item fits in the 4. May be cheaper in some cases than what is currently available.
jtg204
·4 months agoAble to choose Regular Parcel, but it has non-discounted rate too.
Just had someone buy using Regular Parcel an hour ago, and it collected the amount shown for Regular Parcel on the listing that is also not discounted. edit: Regular was 26 cents less than Expedited non-discounted.
(I got a Lite label instead, since it just fell under the limit after packing - I didn't have Lite on the listing)

Xpresspost, historically when I have ever included was only as pie in the sky option. Unless the listed item is high value, super fragile makes limited sense to use. Unless you are sending parts for a pacemaker. This turn on options, turn off options is crazy. Like trying to add expedited lite to items that recently qualified 200 to 250 gram system change. Not like there is an easy way (bulk edit is NOT it) for finding them amongst 200 or 2000 listings one has up and running. It's weight limit critical which is not an easy find with how ebay currently works. They definitely need more physical testing before implementing tinkering. Are sellers going to be reimbured for this new nightmare? Not likely!!!

·4 months agoThis Canada Post Expedited Parcel rate increase may or may not be a bug, but could be the reality of the ongoing increases for anything & everything these days...I just checked on my other selling site where I still get a discounted rate for CP Expedited Parcel(albeit not as good a discount as the former one here on eBay), but for the same Expedited Parcel I shipped out last week, the cost today is over $2 more...
chicweb
·4 months agoHere it's 10$ more.
Around 12$ yesterday, now 22$ to send an item to myself.
This is clearly a bug.
mrdutch1001
·4 months agoBug or no bug & no matter which way about it...Canada Post Expedited Parcel rates are still cheaper on my other selling site than on eBay, so I am not listing anything on eBay that requires shipping via Expedited Parcel. eBay would have to bring back those nice deeper Canada Post discounts to entice me to be listing my other items here on eBay.

These types of issues deserve a direct/honest immediate explanation from eBay of what is going on and what is currently being done to correct these types of glitches because it is directly affecting all Canadian sellers and their current ability to sell. Sellers shouldn't need to be playing whackamole with their listing settings to work around these problems.

Your listings indicate you are in the Toronto area. Open an account with Stallion Express or ChitChats, They can offer several alternatives to Canada Post at rates that are half what even eBays discount CP rates are (and generally faster).
I use Stallion and before that ChitChats, I only use Canada Post for Lettermail or "remote" destinations that the alternate shippers don't service (and I can buy those CP labels from Stallion at a lower price than eBay).

And there is the interim solution.
Along with UPS Standard if you trust them not to add charges on your buyer's doorstep.

·4 months agoNot on one of my items that I need to ship. And what happens if they fix this and find out at the same time that Xpress wasn't supposed to be discounted that much (say, they accidentally switched them), and we bought Xpress labels instead of the Expedited? we will be charged full price for that?!
I just talked with ebay. The fact that they can't tell clearly if the discount was cancelled hints at a glitch, but it doesn't help with the solution. They say wait while we try to solve it...

Should we just advise buyers just stop buying or are sellers supposed to stop shipping? There goes shipping on time. How long are we supposed to wait while they "investigate"?

an_709184
·4 months agoTrue, but still more expensive than what the Regular Expedited should've been without the bugged pricing.
rainday6
·4 months agoThe extortionate Canada Post shippig rates are not a bug. They are the real current Post Office current rates. Potential buyers have messaged me telling me that the Canadian Canada Post shipping rates are insane and they cannot buy from me because of that. And apparently the government has stopped UPS from being an option for shipping for Ebay Canadian sellers (so I was told by Ebay customer service) and we cannot use UPS to ship our outgoing parcels. Canada Post has us by the balls.
Everyone should make a complaint to Ebay. Maybe complaints in great numbers, they can do something like negotiate a much larger discout for its sellers or force Canada Post to lower their rates and be reasonable. With no sales in a month since the latest March 2026 Post Office Shipping Rate increase, I threatened to move my Ebay store to other platforms and Ebay seem to have ben getting a lot of Canadian sellers tell them this.
flipistics
·4 months agoThe current elevated Canada Post rates are due to the fuel rates going through the roof. The prices increases aren't limited to just Canada Post. I have no idea what you're talking about regarding UPS. I assume you misheard something.
jtg204
·4 months ago'I have no idea what you're talking about regarding UPS. I assume you misheard something.'
Probably didn't mishear, that does sound like something I would expect customer service would say if questioned about not being able to add UPS when creating new listings for the past 3+ weeks.
mrdutch1001
·4 months ago"Everyone should make a complaint to Ebay" ...
this is NOT unique to eBay...this is not an eBay issue that eBay can solve...so what exactly do you think eBay can do about these rising fuel costs that in turn are being passed onto everyone. Perhaps a reality check about all these rising costs is more beneficial than a rant about something for which eBay cannot control...

Buy labels for Expedited Parcel on another platform if they don't resolve this soon, in case the discount is not applied when the label is actually charged.
Meanwhile ebay will collect extra final value fees on the difference they've over charged the buyer without the discount (eye roll).
