China items shipped tracked packet with Canada Post
Summary: sapphyres-designer-jewellery has initiated a discussion regarding a shipping concern with Canada Post via tracked packet services for items sourced from China. They detailed a situation involving shipping a coin from China to the US along with other items, deciding to ship all together to avoid potential customs issues. sapphyres-designer-jewellery is concerned about potential delays or tariffs but has communicated with the buyer about the situation, explaining any possible delays due to customs. They are hopeful that the single coin will not be subject to tariffs and plan to keep the buyer updated on the package's progress.
I can't find the thread where people were reporting their shipments through Canada Post tracked packet (with China items, or even items in general to say now long things were taking to clear). Since I can't find the thread and have a small situation I am starting a new thread.
So I had an order to the US of a few things, and while printing the packing slip and getting started on the details for Stallion, I noticed one China coin for 4.99 slipped through and sold to the US buyer. (There's a business policy for China items, but I'm going to go with the most obvious issue is that I didn't select the right template when I did the listing).
Anyway due to the one China item, I have two choices... one to ship the whole package by Tracked Packet, or two, ship the non-China items through Stallion and do the China coin through some other Canada Post service.
I opted to do the entire package by Tracked Packet because the China item is on the invoice and the last thing I need is for the package to be opened, someone to see the invoice, and then frantically tearing it apart trying to find the China coin. Plus it would have cost more in postage, and expenses matter.
Anyway I did postage tonight, I think my Shoppers post office is closed tomorrow, so I will have to bring it Tuesday and cross my fingers if there's a lockout that it doesn't happen until the package leaves Canada (and then hope it doesn't get sent back, but I haven't heard about that happening recently).
I did reach out to the buyer to explain the customs delay and that it was related to China packages, but so far as I know, other sellers' shipments to the US with China made items are making it through without tariffs but taking a while. I told the buyer I'm keeping an eye on their package. Hopefully it moves reasonably quickly. I'm also crossing my fingers that a single current 5 Yuan coin from 2023 is not something they would bother with tariffing, the tariffs were to stop manufacturered goods from being imported, a coin is not really the same thing... well fingers crossed. I'll update this when I have info.
