Got this email indicating the Chitchats DDP went live a 7pm today.

OP11 months agoAre you trying the Shipping Calculator? That is not working, I used Create a Shipment, and after that I deleted the pending shipment that created. Circled in the pic below.

Tariffs are charged.
What might be relevant to some sellers here, tariffs don't seem to be charged for items manufactured in the US. Given the kind of fines that Chit Chats imposes on sellers for non-compliance, I am unsure what kind of risks would be involved with this since you won't reasonably have the address of the manufacturer for a 20-40 year old CD, even if it is marked as "Made In The USA".
There does not seem to be an "informational materials" loophole with Chit Chats. The only loophole seems to be that if you have a CD made in the USA, they appear to be duty free.
To see if all US items are duty free, I checked for a hockey jersey made in the USA (6211.33.50.40) with $100 value and it quoted me at $16 in tariffs. So it must vary by item whether USA made items can come in duty free.

OP11 months agoIsn't the manufacturer address only needed to try to get a CUSMA qualification?
EDIT: Answer - For chitchats ALL DDP require manufacturer information.

OP11 months agoI tried a USA and Canada COO. NOTE that you have to create a new shipment to get a Chitchats quote. The shipping calculator has not been updated for HS codes and did not work.
First was a PS2 video game that is COO USA. For manufacturer's address I used the one on the game itself. Chitchats lets you ship by USPS Media mail. No tariff and $2.08 CDN in extra fees. So not bad.
Test 2 was an LP made in Canada. Slapped with a 35% tariff os $10.50 CDN on a $30 value, plus the $2.08 in fees. The basic media mail was $7.49 for a 450 gram item, which used to make this a very nice shipping option. Not so much now!

·11 months agoI posted this in another thread, but tariffs don't seem to be charged for media like CDs and DVDs (regardless of COI) using the postal system (Canada Post - Zonos).
This was using these HTS codes 8523.49.4000 (movies) or 8523.49.3000 (music). Both came in without duties or tariffs. Although, you do have to pay the processing fee.
I understand this thread is about Chit Chats, but I think a lot of people are going through the process of feeling out each shipping company and figuring out whether it makes sense to use Chit Chats, Stallion, Canada Post, etc.

·11 months agoIt's difficult to know the context of your reply because eBay doesn't quote the post you're replying to.
If you're referring to my earlier post about US CDs on Chit Chats not having Tariffs, in that scenario both Canadian and Mexico CDs did have tariffs for the same item, so I don't think it was CUSMA related.
If you're referring to the post that I just made above yours, I am not referring to CUSMA. I am referring to media like movies, music, and books being automatically exempt (informational materials).
HTS codes 8523.49.4000 (movies) or 8523.49.3000 (music) come in duty free on Zonos. I have also tested non-North America COIs for disc based movies and music. They still come in free of tariffs. Granted, I have not tried every single country, only a few outside NA to confirm it's not exclusive to NA COI media.
These same codes DO NOT come in as exempt on Chit Chats with a Canada or Mexico COI. They only come in as exempt with a USA COI. Whether that is correct, or requires additional approval from Chit Chats, I do not know.

·11 months agoI am not going to do DDP via Chit Chats, but I've been playing around with this for educational purposes to see what some popular items I sell would cost.
Adidas and Fanatics make hockey jerseys in Indonesia. They make the "pro" ones in Canada.
An Indonesian COI is giving me a tariff of about 50 percent of the value of the item. I assume this has to do with what was posted earlier in the week where it was speculated that tariffs for different goods would stack with the tariff rate for each country. If I recall, Indonesia was listed at something like 17 percent, so for it to come in at 50 percent something else must be included.
Canada seems a bit more reasonable, I am getting 35 percent with a Canadian COI with the same details.

·11 months agoIndeed my understanding is that they stack for courier shipments, but not for postal shipments. I guess Canada Post will retain a bit of an edge (except CP won't do CUSMA).

·11 months agoI had this same problem.
What you need to do is take your exact description and plug it into their HS Code lookup. You can find that on the left side of their screen.
For example, if I put mens hockey jersey 100 percent polyster - they assign a different HTS code to it than the one other services previously suggested would be appropriate.
You need to go to the HTS lookup and type in the same thing you would type into the item description on the customs page and use whatever HTS code it gives you. I suppose if you don't agree with the HTS code, you have to describe it in a way that would cause your HTS code to come up.
It seems like their system cross checks your description with the given HTS code and if they don't match, it doesn't givre you a rate.
