Claiming insurance
Summary: rocketscollectibles is facing challenges with claiming insurance for a lost package shipped via Chit Chats. They insured the package for $100 but lack a receipt matching this value, as it was a private transaction without an official invoice like those from eBay. reallynicestamps suggested using "Cookie Jar Insurance" by including a small insurance premium in the asking price. lotzofuniquegoodies shared resources from Chit Chats that detail insurance eligibility, while sin-n-dex explained the necessity for proof of value and suggested that discrepancies between the description and customer invoice could hinder the claim. ilikehockeyjerseys advised creating an invoice using a template for personal records and communicating with the customer regarding the package's misdelivery. The discussion highlighted the complexities and challenges of the insurance claim process with Chit Chats and Canada Post.
I got a package shipped via chitchats and my buyer did not receive. I contacted last mile delivery carrier and they shared proof of drop, showing they dropped at the wrong door.
My first time claiming insurance. I noticed its not a smooth process at all. Im asked a ton of questions and proof of value. The issue is that i only insured for $100, and dont have any receipt matching this value. My package was worth more. And it was a private transaction. No ebay invoice.
Do we must insure for the full value and only the full value of what we ship? And have proof of value fully matching to be eligible?
Canada post has $100 included, i always guessed that they would give $100 if package lost whatever the value you declare when you claim (if its over $100). I insure everything $100 on chitchats as default but just realized maybe i pay for nothing because my numbers/description dont match.
How strict are they with proof of value and declared value when you claim insurance? Im i risking getting declined if numbers dont match? Even if im right?

·1 year agoHave you shared the photo of the delivery with the customer and asked them if they are open to asking about their neighbour about the package? I understand some people won't want to do this.
As far as the invoice goes, you should theoretically have an invoice for your own records. You don't need to sell on a platform to have an invoice. Google for a template and you can create an invoice for the transaction. Your customer may have to sign an affidavit confirming the validity of the information that you provide.

·1 year agoChit Chats will want proof of the value, and proof you refunded the customer (if the reason it was misdelivered). If your description on Chit Chats doesn't match the invoice you gave your customer you are probably SOL since you can't prove what you shipped.
For Canada Post packages that are going with Chit Chats, if you don't purchase the insurance Chit Chats will pay out provided Canada Post allows them to claim first. If Canada Post doesn't pay in this case, you won't get anything, even though insurance is included with Canada Post shipments.

This is why Cookie Jar Insurance is better than buying third party.
You add a tiny amount to every asking price and use that as an insurance premium in rare cases of loss.
