Comments on the new messaging system
Summary: The discussion centers around the new messaging system, with a mix of positive and negative feedback from participants. lotzofuniquegoodies expresses curiosity about the ability to opt out of the new system, which lacks certain features like read receipts. While dinomitesales and byto253 find it satisfactory and organized, making messages appear in a threaded view similar to emails, others like reallynicestamps, regs43, and fergua3 express frustration due to lost functionality, confusion, and errors such as sending messages to the wrong recipients. marnotom! suggests the change aims to cater to mobile users, though opinions vary regarding its necessity and design improvements. There is a notable desire among multiple users to revert to the old system, pointing out the lack of geographic information and sending options as issues in the new design.
I see the new messaging system has arrived. Comments, concerns? Do you like or dislike? Anyone see a way of opting out and reverting back to the old way? Not seeing one at my end.

·1 year agoHello,
The old messaging system used to say where the prospective buyer was located. It didn't give the full address however it would give something like Calgary, AB or Brampton, ON
Does anyone see where this information is available in the new message system? Or is there no longer a way to see where a prospective buyer is located?

·1 year agothe old message system you could send offers with also. I don't see that in the new message system unless it's been well hidden.

·1 year agoThe lack of any basic geographical info directly within the message is an annoyance, both desktop and the app share this poor design. Clicking on the member's user id opens their "About" page unless they are also a seller, in that case their store page opens requiring an extra click to reach their "About" page.

·1 year agoI was finally able to delete Messages going back to April. This must be annoying on a phone, it certainly was on my desktop.

I wanted to add a new folder. Apparently limit was/is 10. Appears to be no way to modify/add or remove. And not seeing a folder called drafts. Someone pointed that out in com discussion. In just now checking current folders they are now empty so there must be a <roll mission impossible music> self destruct message built into this version of messaging. You do get this. Maybe where most of the time went with product development!!!

·1 year agoI HATE THE NEW SYSTEM -- but i can't find a way to go back to old system except to click the customers name and then send him a email that way -- the new system is way to confusing to even use for me -- old system was just fine -- and worked --- they tinker where they should not tinker -- and then don't fix was is really broken

·1 year agoI don't like the new messaging system at all. Very confusing. eBay asked what I thought of it. Said I hated it & want them to switch back to the original version.

·1 year agoI don't like the new way at all.
But like all the other "improvements" I'll get used to it in time.....

·1 year agonew system is junk. More ebay junk. It took me a couple of minutes to even figure out what i was looking at. The big column down the middle is the list of messages, the big column on the left lets you choose which folder you want (eg inbox, sent etc) and the little area crammed on the right about 1/3 of the screen wide is where you read messages or type new ones. That area is the width of about 4 words. Total garbage.
WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE OLD SYSTEM?
Earlier i was able to change back to the old system. Now i cannot.
Another reason, in the growing list of reasons, to leave Ebay. Ebay = few sales and lots of headaches.

It should be possible to change the width of the columns so that the Messages one is the widest. Mine is but it came like that.

·1 year agoAs mentioned on the other thread, it was antiquated. It was more of a clunky webmail system than the SMS-type messaging system most users expect in 2024. The majority of buyers don't make online purchases with the help of a computer these days, they use a phone or perhaps a tablet. For good or ill, a different style of communication has evolved with that hardware.

·1 year agoWeird, I STILL only have the old messaging style and only have the option to "upgrade" to the new one. The ebay app I only downloaded recently and it's an entirely different style to PC and I made the same mistake of messaging the wrong buyer because of it. I find it odd how the update is implemented here and there and not to everyone.

·1 year agoI dont love it since I already sent a message to the wrong person lol. The old one once you messaged someone it brought you back to the page to see all your messages, now it just leaves the last chat open and I had clicked on someone elses thread to reply and it didnt switch over and i replied lol

·1 year agoSince this new messaging system is not an "improvement" and there was nothing wrong with the old system, guess this just another example of eBay making a change for the sake of making a change....Changes like this just go to show one that eBay has no creativity or thought process for features that truly benefit sellers and have to resort to make-work projects to keep themselves on the payroll....

Thanks for your learning lesson. I will try NOT to make that mistake!!! 😯 Why I have started waiting until everyone else tests before full scale using.

·1 year agoI like it, it's more organized to read. The format is pretty similar to SMS messages (and various chat apps out there) now.
I have a repeat buyer who likes to send multiple messages at once, so now all of her messages will just show up in one place instead of multiple messages 😂

·1 year agoNo problem with the new messaging system. I do like that messages are in a thread so if there is a back and forth it does not show up each time, just the thread so the message inbox is cleaner. It basically works like email now.
I had thought early on I was having trouble finding something that was available in the old system but looking it over I don't see any issues now.

·1 year agoI can't even find how to send a simple message. There seems to be no place to type it.
I hate it! Don't fix what ain't broke!
I suspect this was a keep busy project for someone!

·1 year agoi still have the old messaging style but i do see a thing that says "we've updated messaging, try now" but for now im going to stay with the formatting im familar with.

·1 year agoI saw no reason to change it.
I see no improvement in Messaging.
Change for the sake of change.

·1 year agoI just took another look.
Messages are listed that go back to May.
Most of which were deleted or archived once dealt with.
NOT an improvement.
Put me in the negative column.

OP1 year agoOnly personal suggestion I can make to eBay messaging is a confirmation that messages are being seen. I have had that with gmail for ages. Shouldn't be that difficult to implement.
