Delayed Label Charges Using New Pricing Instead of Old One
Summary: A participant reported discrepancies in shipping label charges, noting an additional $2 charge for packages sent to an international shipping hub. They criticized the company for not addressing seller concerns and suggested using an alternative shipping service, ChitChats. Another participant also experienced unexpectedly high charges for multiple shipments, raising questions about the billing process. There were requests for clarification on whether charges are based on the date of label creation or the date of charge. The discussion reflects frustration among sellers about the lack of response from the company regarding pricing issues.
I just got billed one shot for like 80 labels overnight, they all got billed for the new label prices with fuel surcharge or whatever they added instead of the price I paid when I originally bought them. All of them are charged an extra 50 cents to $2.
Not only that, but all the Expedited Lite labels ARE STILL being charged as Regular Expedited labels, thus costing me an extra $2 on average per parcel. What is this scam? Why can't they bill the label when I buy it?

·5 months agoI got 6 credits today. They all are for items going to the EIS hub in Ontario. At least eBay is doing something to fix the issue. It would be nice if they could put the item # on the credit so we don't have to become Sherlock f'ing Holmes to figure out what item its for.

·5 months agoSomething like....Oooopsies, eBay messed up...... here is your long overdue credit for shipment xyz via <insert service here> sent on <insert date here> with <insert tracking number here>. Done like dinner!!!
@transtraders That was my original observation too. Labels page it refers to the tracking number...Billing page it refers to order number. You shouldn't need to open to what what it belongs and sidely important the when.
This was a progression/digression of the email you get when you create a listing. First 10 characters are part of the title....balance 70 characters are the instructions on how to complete a local pick up. eBay spam.
@flipistics Is anyone seeing credits for expedited overcharges?

·5 months agoyup, right there with you mate. I got hammered last week with more than twenty within a couple days dating back to the beginning of the **bleep** year. Ebay, to avoid stupidity like this, should just take the money right out of the total then and **bleep** there and pay CP directly then and there with it, at point of bloody sale. This system they have operating now to deal with this is just so mickey mouse, much like Canada Post, so I guess I shouldnt be surprised.

OP5 months agoYup, I just checked, and I received like 20 refunds so far, most of them in the 1.75 to $2, which corresponds to the Expedited Lite charged as Non-Lite. Hopefully, the maths adds up at the end. I keep track of everything in an Excel sheet, it's such a hassle, haha.

When I have gone to create a label and expedited lite was the option paid for the difference I saw between lite and full expedited was substantial. Doing a test just now from Calgary to E. Ont the difference is in the 10.00 range. Ex lite discount is 66% vs 35% for expedited using the same base rate as a starting point.
Disclaimer: The discount can also change depending if it is going to just a regular customer vs to the hub. They both have their own discounts and dedicated account numbers.

Then search your labels for the tracking number to find out which label they are correcting...
You can search by tracking number on transactions page:

The above is for adjustments/refunds for Lite labels last year, if the message has changed someone can please point that out!

·5 months agoMy labels seem to charge 5-6 days after printing them.
All my recent labels to the eIS hub were $9.45 at the time of purchase/printing. My charges are all showing $13.29 for them. Over a 40% charge difference.
Also had one I sent to BC charge me over $21 when it showed ~$11. Otherwise most seem to line up for me.

OP5 months agoI talked to customer support, and they said they passed the problem to the technical team, whatever that means. Maybe they are actually working on a fix, maybe they are pretending to. Anyways, they owe me like >$50 in labels overcharge (most of that coming from Expedited Lite to eIS Hub being charged as Regular Expedited). I know last time (around December 2025), they refunded the overcharge on the CP shipping labels, I hope they do the same promptly.

·5 months agoThis 'extra' charging is getting very frustrating. Seems that all my Exp Lite items get hit for an extra $2.50 when going thru the EIS hub. And of course with the crazy payout parameters there is no money left in my account to pay them. (I missed the window to change from monthly to bi weekly billing!)
Called ebay and got the usual 'but the buyer paid for the shipping' line. Or it was Taxes.
Ebay shipping says $7.29 for an Exp lite parcel (150g - 30 x 23 x 1 )....this bill comes thru as $9.79 !! Never an explanation as to why the extra was charged.
Basically the rates ebay shows is FALSE ADVERTISING to the sellers.
If Ebay knows there will be additional charges....why the heck can't they show them upfront and stop trying to pull the wool over sellers eyes.
Arrrrgh.

Are you able to confirm if eBay Label billing is based on date label was created vs the date charged? Standard CANADIAN business practice is the first option.
Please note: The OP for this discussion received 80 charges in one batch. With numerous items being charged at a higher amount. This never happened in the past. Previously charges arrived in a recurring 2 to 3 days at least for CP. Unable to confirm for UPS/Fedex.

·5 months agoHi Lotz, @lotzofuniquegoodies
The problem for me is continuing. I'm wondering if there isn't something in the eBay User Agreement that suggests the initial label billing for all couriers is "suggested". No time to research that but as no eBay person has chimed in I'm thinking it's in there. The discrepancies I'm experiencing are dollars not just pennies like some others. Today I bought a label for $42. I'm cringing to find out what they will charge me in the end. This is really sensitive considering I don't charge a handling fee that could soak it up.
There is something new in "My eBay" I noticed. Not sure if I'm later to the party but if you click on the My eBay main menu at the bottom we now have a new option. See photo.
jtg204
·5 months agoOne reference (maybe there's more) to it being an estimate I'm aware of is in the FAQ:
https://www.ebay.ca/sellercentre/shipping/ebay-labels
The amount I was charged doesn’t match what was quoted on eBay Labels. Why is that?
The estimated cost provided at the time of label purchase is based on the provided package details - (weight and dimensions) as well as shipping details (origin and destination addresses). Once accepted by the carrier, the dimensions and weight are evaluated for accuracy and any differences will be communicated back to us. In addition, shipping rates may be subject to fuel surcharges which could fluctuate daily. As such, the amount displayed in your payment history is the actual amount charged by the carrier based on the exact package details and any applicable surcharges.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·5 months agoExcept why has the revised charge become the standard vs the exception. And why do the charges not include an explanation? The majority of sellers are very careful because they don't want revised charges after the fact. (They are not estimating and mostly rounding up when in doubt. When I used shippo prior to ebay labels over 3/4 years I had 1 revised charge and that was fast fingers.
And this nightmare still isn't addressing the bump to measurements once you hit print that has been pointing out by many since sometime in October of last year.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·5 months agoIn the past wasn't the warning message about potential for audit on the front page of eBay labels before you agreed to terms and hit print to accept? It appears those terms have been modified....again.
Now seeing the following:
a)Payment by seller account
Once the shipping label has been used, the amount due will be automatically deducted from your funds or charged to your on-file payment method in a few days.
b) By clicking "Buy shipping label" you agree to these Delivery Service Terms & Conditions and to your information being passed to Canada Post for the purpose of providing you with access to this service and for related purposes.
c) You are responsible for checking that your item can be sent within Canada. Please check the latest information and restrictions for Canada Post, UPS or FedEx and contact the carrier directly if you have any questions.
Overall, how satisfied are you with buying labels on eBay? Tell us what you think
As mentioned previously when I confirmed with CP customer service, if measurements showing on label are lower (with an audit) the customer is credited for any difference. How many users are having this happening to them?

If the charges are only a "suggestion" what is the rational behind having an eBay tool that is postage calculator and then have eBay labels work off something under the hood? CP's own tool never behaved like that. You checked the calculator, inputted the measurements, adjusted the measurements (when applicable) and the tool made an adjustment, on the fly when necessary.

Only analogy I can think of at the moment would be getting a quote for a repair. Customer says go ahead and then tech finds something else they would need your approval to either carry on or do a dead stop. You could/would be still on the hook for the estimate depending on companies policy. If it were to go up (without advising) they would have to abide by their original quote. Otherwise in our lil' ol' eBay situation these would be a cases of bait and switch.
@flipistics Regarding the most frustrating expedite lite neverending scenarios have all sellers gotten credits for exp lite being automagically upgraded to expedited? I know I never did. Or did just some sellers get courtesy credits to ......... because they yelled a bit louder?

The crazy part about all this is it is only the seller creating labels that is getting the extra billing. Not the buyer who is making purchases when calculated shipping is in play. For sellers that use flat rate or included the amount it becomes who knows. And never mind the extra fees sellers are paying on the shipping portion.

·5 months agoJust printed off a label to hub 150 grams using Expedited Lite. Label prints as 150 grams + the vintage 5 x 5 x 5 cms.
Entered measurements: 17 x 12 x 7 cm. eBay report revises to 12 x 17 x 5 cm. (Bad programming with the transferring of measurements.)
eBay email after generating the label states the following. This was a known issue in the past when it came to minimums as per CP. Note according to below 3rd measurement states 2.5 cm so somehow rounding up is not a thing any longer?!?!? Charged 9.84. Now have to play waiting game to see how item is actually charged and/or if it gets amended. Stay tuned!!!!
Package size
Minimum 23 x 20 x 2.5cm. Maximum weight 250g, length 41cm and L x W x H 3,220cm³.

·5 months ago@lotzofuniquegoodies I wonder what would happen if we just input 23x20x3 for all expedited lite packages and then let the Canada Post audit resize it?
lotzofuniquegoodies
·5 months agoIt makes one wonder if as per the disclaimer message why aren't they porting in those measurements vs random ones? The next time I create an expedited label will monitor. Wouldn't this be a situation of the billing being padded. (inflated)
Regarding Expedited lite, when it was created as a thing it should have been tagging parcel labels with that official name instead of Expedited. Would have reduced confusion/random auditing months ago. That would have been the common sense thing to do.
flipistics
·5 months agoThey're not random. It's because either eBay or Canada Post screwed something up and are treating packets (which have the exact same maximum dimensions as Expedited Lite) as Parcels. The minimum size for a Parcel is 23x20xSomething. They are therefore bumping the length and width to the minimum size for a parcel instead of correctly treating it as a packet. They seem to have fixed it some tim ago for normal expedited lite, but the bug has reappeared on the ones going to the hub which seems to be a different account.
One interesting observation. I had someone buy 2 DVDs the other day on the same order which together exceeded the weight for expedited lite. If I remember right, the system automatically charged them the full expedited rate for them combined rather than twice the expedited lite rate, which was interesting. I wasn't sure how that actually worked.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·5 months ago@flipistics
Combined shipping calculations will never be 100% perfect with 2 non identical items. For users that sell muliple units all the system would need is the data from seller for weight of item + a bit extra for packaging vs multiplying the weight by 2/3/4/5 etc. That's how other systems I've worked with in the past operated. It only gets super messy when items are bulky. (The system should be smart enough to know each extra unit does NOT need its own box.)
jtg204
·5 months agoI predict you'll be charged for Expedited Parcel at $12.74 (or $12.65)
Expedited rates start at 0.5kg so 5x5x5cm will be same rate as 12x17x5cm or 12x17x7cm if they go by real size. This week it's $12.74 for 0.5kg to hub for you, next week would be about $12.65.

There you see the final charge for the label, click on the tracking number for the label transaction. It opens Shipment Details box that shows the original 'estimated' cost as 'Cost:'.

·5 months agoI ship around 20 items every single day, and have started keeping screenshots of the original quoted label prices, since mid-March when I noticed there was discrepincies. Most of my packages are Expedited Lite and all the ones that are being sent to buyers usually are the same price from the quote. But anything to the eIS hub, has been exactly $2 more each time.
I am now exclusively using ChitChats for shipping until this is resolved.
@devon@ebay aren't we supposed to be getting a discount when shipping to the Hub? Wasn't that the entire point of offering International Shipping?
eBay clearly has NO intention of resolving this or even talking to it's sellers for months now, as they ignore us everytime a new post is made on here about these issues.
I highly suggest you all find an alternative shipping method for the time being.

·5 months agoI just got 13 labels come through and most were overcharged, like the OP says, approx. .50 cents to $2.00 over what was originally charged. I think like 2 of them were exactly correct, and 2 were actually cheaper than the original.
These billing delays/overcharges are getting very annoying. eBay needs to correct this if they want to be legitmate and trustworthy.
EDIT TO ADD:
And also, because of the forced payout glitch, I don't have the funds to cover these delayed/overcharged labels in my account. The hits just keep coming!

·5 months agoMine caught up to March 28th (except for Feb 23rd...still missing), no issues with this batch, no fuel increases between buy/charge, but haven't got many labels.
I am wondering if anyone that bought Expedited labels when ebay was displaying no discounts on Expedited have been charged the proper discount rates now some are processed (from around March 19th)?
You've been checking that the label dimensions on the labels are the dimensions you enter/buy?
For non-EIS labels, have you checked with Canada Post on any of the bigger differences ($2) as to the dimensions they have audited?
an_709184
OP5 months agoThe pricing started to be wrong from labels purchased March 22nd onwards, they are all like ~50 cents extra, I think that $2 one was the Xpresspost from when they removed the Reg. Expedited discount (bug). Other than that, you have the extra 2$ for Expedited Lite to the eIS Hub.
Talking to CP is pointless; they will tell you to talk to eBay, and eBay will do the same. It's just a repeat of the situation from last November.
jtg204
·5 months agoYou can compare your measurements to what Canada Post is auditing. If your packages measure 50x40x3cm you can rule out that they are being audited/charged as 50x40x4cm for example. Contacting (via chat) and asking for the dimensions they have from their auditing can rule that out. The last time I got dimensions I requested a ticket number and to have it closed so I can contact the ombundsmun with a closed ticket which they provided, but I didn't go further with it.

My charges are coming thru in dribs and drabs in no real order. One will be bang on, the next 1 will be several dollars difference. Because we don't see an explanation of the why there is an upcharge it makes it challenging to do any kind of auditing.
In the past they showed up in a few days and ALMOST NEVER saw upcharges. Now, it's like the new normal. The way the charges are filtering through to us nowhere matches as per eBay TOS when you create a label and the timing of how they should be charged.
According to a previous conversation with CP customer service IF a parcel is audited and found to be less in either measurements or weight the item will see a credit if it is over charged. This is as per CP. Not me. I can't ever recall seeing a credit/reduced charge for eBay Label Postage. EVER. Unsure how many items actually ever get audited. It does give the impression that if revised inaccurate measurements are being dumped to labels we are seeing/getting the increased charge. NOT the actual correct charge and most likely with the delayed billing the higher fuel surcharges and applicable tax. Not entirely sure on how sellers should be proceeding but this is not the way we should be charged for postage purchased.
-Lotzofuniquegoodies.
@devon@ebay When will sellers be seeing credits for thes inaccurately undocumented upcharges for eBay Labels?
Please note: This is not the only post on this subject. This issue and lack of proper refunding go back to October 2025 at minimum when it was spotted by multiple users rgarding the revised measurements on labels after printing that DO NOT match the ebay labels log of actual info.

In 3 to 4 years I had 1 upcharge using Shippo. The charge came with an explanation. Cause in that case entirely on me. Repackaged and forgot to update measurements trying to get parcel out the door in time for pick up. I don't recall ever receiving a postage credit with Shippo. The problems and inconsistency have been with eBay Labels only. And eBay sellers having been asking for documented broken down bills from eBay since the start of eBay Labels. It's just never been addressed by eBay.
