Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion
Summary: The discussion highlights ongoing issues with the eIS Canada initiative. Participants, including reallynicestamps, recped, and devon@ebay, express concerns about a new shipping program seemingly managed by EasyShip, which appears unready, as noted by the lack of a clear operational plan and the incorrect postal codes affecting deliveries. flipistics mentions the inability to ship via certain carriers due to these issues, raising further logistical concerns. reallynicestamps seeks clarity on shipping costs and responsibilities for tariffs when shipping to the US, indicating potential shortcomings in communication of policies within the eIS program. devon@ebay mentions reaching out to the eIS team for further insights and solutions.
Open post for known issues regarding eIS Canada. Add as you come across them.
1. Default shipping method domestic letter being used vs USA Tracked or Expedited. (I am guessing some cases you could ship Expedited lite to hub vs letter to get tracked but not always. It would mean determining which ones would qualify and blocking letter if it is an eIS order). Once buyer pays you are basically hooped unless there was add on reason allowed for cancelling that was more appropriate.)

·10 months agoWelp, my first EIS package took ~3 weeks to get from GTA to California.
Day 0 (date of sale): printed ChitChats label
Day 1: dropped off at ChitChats depot, downtown Toronto
Day 3: arrived at EIS, a few minutes after arrival, got "label printed" from DHL and a few hours later got stuck at "en route to DHL Ecommerce Distribution Center or awaiting processing".
Day 9: got assigned a new DHL tracking number
Day 10: "Close Bag" "Processed", "Manifested", "Scanned into sack container" in Mississauga by DHL
Day 15: Made it to DHL in Melrose Park/Chicago, IL
Day 21: Made it to California and handed to USPS
Day 23: Delivered
Haven't heard from buyer, but yeesh.
How about you @palmerstonpicks ?

·10 months agoSimilar from Chit Chats to hub, and a label gets created by the hub either same day of or next day.
Have not noticed any issues like your day 3-9; but I no longer pay attention to eIS order tracking.
DHL to the US has been slow, around 2 weeks total or a bit longer, or a bit less for delivery from date of sale. So I'd reckon your experience is unsual.
Ascendia to Europe has shown to be quicker, which is great.
We have had a few positive feedbacks recieved, only one mentioned slow shipping time, but he would also buy from us again.
All in all, very happy.
I think very soon if not already, US buyers will come to understand the realities of international shipping in this new era.

·11 months agoThis is what happened to me in Ontario as well, except the lite rate was available and the rates were only about 20 cents difference. I was charged less on the lite label, but then upcharged after to more than the normal rate.

·11 months agoMy final results of sending Lite in a box to the Hub from Winnipeg, with the unusual initial Lite estimate being high:
Advertised estimate: $11.39
Initial transaction: $6.40
Second transaction: $8.15 (5 days later!)
Total: $14.55
Comparison to Expedited estimates (today):
ebay Expedited (16x14x13 - actual size): $11.61
ebay label would be changed to 23x20x13: $11.71
When I compare shipping to the Hub to Shippo rates, it's unusual especially as the size increases. Seems to be bigger than normal discount in the ebay estimates on expedited to hub.

·11 months agoChit Chats (via their gtagsm "last-mile delivery partner") made it on-time to YYZ EIS with the "wrong" postal code provided by eBay (I refused Chit Chats' suggested correction).
Arrived 3PM, DHL label created 10 minutes later. "En Route to DHL Ecommerce processing center or awaiting processing" as of 5PM.
Parcel being shipped via "DHL Parcel Int'l Direct Standard - CA to US only".
Weight is exactly the same, so they just slap their new label on top of mine.
Looks like I wasn't the only one.
My own experience the other way (US to Canada) with EIS was very fast once the seller's package arrived at the US hub. 1-2 days from Chicago to Toronto.

·11 months agoha! one of those packages is mine! How did you get this photo btw?
electronicsextraordinaire
·11 months agoI followed the tracking link from chitchats, which had a link to their last-mile gig courier, gtagsm. They photo their package drop offs and, like I would do, photo'd them as a group. Need to enter the destination postal code for privacy... which isn't hard to figure out 🙂
The source photo was 2.9mb and still blurry so no real personal info (unless you recognize your own package! and admit to it!), so I think the courier was just in a rash to snap their pic and run.
CC and GTAGSM seem to work with the same tracking number.
palmerstonpicks
·11 months agoAhhh, I didn't know that they had photo confirmations, great to know. I wasn't concerned about revealing private info - I was genuinely curious about the photo!
I was having issues with GTA GSM trying to deliver after hours and on weekends to the hub, but I'm glad to see that it's being sorted out now.

·11 months agoCanada Post Expedited via eBay wanted CAD$8.41 for shipping to the hub with a 5-15 day delivery time, for Toronto to Mississauga...
Chit Chats Select was $5.90 (base rate without add-ons), with a 2 day delivery estimate.
Chit Chats errored out at importing the shipment from eBay:
...but my listing had COO selected from eBay's drop-down list of choices. Not that it's relevant for a domestic parcel. Had to enter addressee manually. Chit Chats "suggested" changing the postal code to something else, but accepted the L5J 0B8 that I entered.
My listing said Canada Post Expedited, but eBay's shipping label page discourages Canada Post... To be honest, no buyer has ever had an issue with me changing shipping methods as long as they get their item in a reasonable period of time.
We'll see how it goes! Anyone know what hours EIS-Mississauga accepts packages and days of the week?

·11 months agoIf the postal code issue isn't resolved for those that aren't buying Ebay labels at this point in time, can I send my package by regular Canada Post untracked? Because, as mentioned, Stallion and Sendle (plus other couriers most likely) aren't going to recognize the postal code Ebay wants us to use. Or does it have to be tracked - even by Canada Post - to go to this Ebay Hub location?
marnotom!
·11 months agoIt's been discussed on another thread that a trackable shipping method isn't necessary for getting the item to the hub, but it comes with the usual caveats about the lack of "protections," etc. that would be the same for a regular untracked shipment. Do note @cottagewoman's post a few messages back about the possibility of it being less expensive to send items to that postal code, though, presumably through eBay Labels.
For what it's worth, I don't think it's eBay that "wants" items sent to that postal code so much as it's Canada Post or Sincro. This postal code is in the Canada Post database, but it's likely a very recent addition.
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP11 months agoIt's posted "somewhere" on the dot com page for eIS that a tracked service is required for shipping to the hub. Unsure why it would be different for eIS Canada. See attachment
On the ca page it does state the following:
Integrated shipping carriers
To protect yourself against "Item not received" claims filed through eBay Money Back Guarantee, you need to use a shipping carrier that is integrated with eBay.
The following carriers are integrated with eBay:
Domestic Carriers
Carrier name
Canada Post (CPC) )
Trackable Services
UPS
Trackable Services
CanPar
Trackable Services
Purolator
Trackable Services
FedEx
Trackable Services
This may be why Canadian sellers using outside methods are having conflicts. When compared to the US approved list it is much longer in comparison to the Canadian version.

·11 months agoI think you're thinking of what's posted here, @lotzofuniquegoodies:
When shipping your item to the domestic shipping hub, always add tracking details and include the reference number on the label to ensure it arrives safely.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/ebay-international-shipping-program?id=5348#section4
But that doesn't mean that you must use a trackable shipping method for US eIS, just that if you have tracking details, they need to be added to the shipment information.
It's the eIS seller terms and conditions that matter, as far as I can see, and the "program rules" in that online document no longer (if they ever did) specify that sellers must use a trackable shipping method (or a shipping method with delivery confirmation) to get items to the hub.
Anyway, for eIS Canada, confirmation that tracking is not a requirement for items sent to the hub can be found on this thread:
https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Lettermail-is-accepted-by-the-Canadian-eIS-hub-CONFIRMED/m-p/531122

OP11 months ago@marnotom! Please clarify what you mean by add tracking details vs tracking info not required? Sounds like those 2 statements trip over each other.
I thought that someone has posted someone to that affect but wasnt sure which discussion it was part of. If that is the case why isn't it in the official TOS/help page vs an email message from Luke and/or does it, pardon the term, trump what is in post 59?
As for it being part of the "tracking details" that is made up of 2 segments....the first shipped by seller to hub and the 2nd however ebay sends to customer. They are independent. 2 separate processes.
dinomitesales
·11 months agoeBay will never flat out say in any of it's official statements that it's acceptable to be shipping things untracked. They would very much prefer everything is sent tracked. But at the same time, the folks at eBay Canada seem to understand the ubiquity of Canadian sellers sending things untracked and have always given us small breaks in that regard (i.e. tracking uploaded isn't a requirement for us to get Global TRS).
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP11 months ago@dinomitesales
Re: Tracked vs ubiquity
So what does that mean going forward as to seller protections if the seller sends untracked and item happens to go MIA?
Or is it just an over ride because most Canadian sellers use letter as default for small/LV stuff in Canada so it becomes the defacto hub shipping method/first payment option for US buyers because ebay did not see it as a potential glitch when eis kicked in with limited testing?

·11 months agomarnotom!
·11 months agoInteresting. I tried going on the Canada Post website's rate calculator to do some experimenting in that vein just to see if the rate differences showed up there as well and I kept getting error messages. Perhaps the glitches we've been seeing on eBay aren't all eBay's fault.
By the way, I think the postal code for the hub was assigned by Canada Post, not eBay. 😉

·11 months agoI am having the same issue with the postal code not being accepted at Stallion Express and Sendle.

Stallion and Sendle won't accept L5J 0B8 so I can't even buy the label.

·11 months agoThe first two I sent in were UPS via Click Ship and they did allow me to purchase the label. I noticed in the tracking that UPS updated the address though. I'm hoping I don't get an address correction fee on those. The one I sent out today I just used Canada Post via eBay Labels to play it safe.
I'd suggest sending a message in to the eIS team (eis@ebay.ca) and let them know. The more people that do that, the quicker it's likely to get fixed.

·11 months agoQuestion for stamp on parcel folks. Does Zonos now replace the online Canada Post customs form for US shipments? Seems like it should.
ilikehockeyjerseys
·11 months agoNo.
You still need to make the Canada Post custom QR code with the address and customs info. They are two separate things.
Some post offices don't care and will do it manually, or do it manually even when you have the QR because they cannot figure out how to scan it, or they scan it and don't like how the address came out. Very YMMV. But you do technically need it.
byto253
·11 months agoAh, to bad. I have used them from time to time and the online customs form is a pretty outdated PITA with no COO or HS code boxes. I fill them out and print them for the posties, the amount of clicking they have to do even with the customs inputted already is fearsome enough!
ilikehockeyjerseys
·11 months agoZonos has that info. The Canada Post one seems to be more to streamline the process in person so that the CSR at the counter can scan a barcode rather than spend 5 minutes per package entering data.
If you're paying in person (stamps, cash, credit, etc) you need Zonos and the Canada Post form.
If you print online, you just need the Zonos since you enter the CN22 info into snapship.
You also can still throw pre-printed labels directly into the mailbox. The Zonos info is built into the label. You only need the Zonos barcode if you're buying the label in store.

·11 months agoStallion needs to update its address database, then. as the address is in the Canada Post database. See earlier posts on this.
What's causing confusion for carriers is that the warehouse that Gosincro is leasing was likely partitioned after the lease was finalized. Items are received and checked in at "suite" number 2 while other parts of the operation are in another part of the building with a different postal code.
From what I can see, the eIS/Gosincro postal code for the second "suite" appears to be in use in another neighbourhood about half an hour's drive away, and that's probably the crux of the confusion.
flipistics
·11 months agoI checked the tracking for the two items I sent to the hub (both by UPS) and UPS noted on both that the postal code was wrong and changed it (I don't know what to). Hoping I don't get an address correction fee on those, but it appears that the postal code eBay is giving us may be wrong. This would also make sense given that Purolator, ICS, and Sendle all refused to ship to the address. An incorrect postal code may be why.

·11 months agoThis isn't necessarily an issue with eIS itself, but when shipping my first item to the hub I noticed that Sendle, ICS, and Purolator outright refused to ship to the address. The cost of tracked shipping from BC or NL (or NU!) to ON is the first question.
Even lightweight items like my stamps cost about $12 to ship East.
Is tracking necessary?
How can we use eIS given that burden ?
Who is billed for the Trump Tariff, the seller or the US buyer?
Is the tariff included on the buyer's invoice and paid upfront before the seller ships as state sales taxes are now?
Is it a separate line item?
ilikehockeyjerseys
·11 months agoThey very badly need some sort of batched shipping program. I don't see why this wouldn't be offered. Chit Chats and Stallion both have it.
Even for a fairly casual seller who is close to the hub and might get a few eIS shipments a week, it would be $10-$15 to throw everything in one Canada Post or UPS parcel vs $6-$12 per parcel. Even with 5 sales per shipping cycle, that represents substantial savings. A big criticism of the eIS program is the cost to deliver the product. Slashing that cost by as much as $10-15 per order for higher volume sellers could go a long way in allowing them to deliver value to international customers by offering more tolerable shipping rates.
If there are liability concerns about individual items not getting scanned, they could set a price point where shipments require their own label, or where eBay will not investigate if it goes missing before being scanned in from a batch.
If not getting an acceptance scan is a major issue, I can't imagine that there isn't a shipping carrier or retailer who they couldn't partner with to create a batch system. Someone else mentioned previously that Purolator allows multiple items to be included as part of one shipment for one price.
flipistics
·11 months agoICS, CanPar, and Purolator offer it, which you can access via Click Ship. What I don't know is whether or not you can put a unique number (or C/O and evtn) on each parcel that's needed for eIS to process it. Maybe you could add it as an extra label to the package? I don't know exactly how they do the processing at the hub so I don't know if that would work or not, but if they accept lettermail items which wouldn't be tied to a tracking number then I assume that it should work for parcels too. Note also that none of those companies will currently ship to the hub, although I think that's an issue with the hub's postal code which I'm assuming will get addressed pretty quickly.
To give people an idea:
Sending one 12x6x6 box weighing 1 kg from northern Ontario to CN Tower (including tax):
ICS: $11.91
UPS: $12.78
CanPar: $15.53
Purolator: $16.10
Sending the same thing in two 6x6x6 boxes each weighing 0.5 kg:
ICS: $12.23
Purolator: $16.10
CanPar: $16.40
UPS: $20.72
And finally, sending four 6x6x6 boxes each weighing 0.5 kg:
ICS: $13.09
Purolator: $17.52
CanPar: $21.11
UPS: $33.95

Or maybe just instructions on how to get the door open?

I live 20 minutes up the road from the Hub.
Would you have time for road trip?
It might be worth your while (and ours by extension) to drive there and see what the entire building is like.
It seems unusual, when I look at the Google Maps over head image, that there is no "front door" to the quite large building. And there are certainly loading docks visible.
You may have more time than the carrier's drive to explore the site - and perhaps find the real drop off point.

·11 months agoI've been enrolled for over a week. Shipping to US seems to have no rhyme or reason at all, since day one.
By changing my postal code to 90210 to see what US buyers see, this is what I'm getting-
Some listings that I didn't include a country of origin (I sell a lot of vintage clothing , some don't have tags) still somehow have EIS available with shipping and import fees. How?
Some listings filled out correctly, with country of origin, no EIS available, for any country
Some listings have rediculously high import fees to US, which change to different amounts every time I refresh the page. One example -$39 acrylic sweater, made in Bangladesh, under 500g- import fee , varied from $60-$400(!). Has now settled at $21.66. Still seems somewhat high as Bangladesh tariff is 20%? Many others with widely varying import fees.
To add insult to injury, I messaged eBay facebook page concerning my problem, suddenly banned from Facebook mid conversation. I had to appeal, waited two days to get account back, messaged eBay again, and was promptly banned again. Finally have my account back.
Anyway, both people I spoke to didn't really understand what I was trying to explain no matter how hard I tried. At that point I gave up.

I initially thought it was just completely random and coincidental that it occurred right after messaging the Facebook eBay account, but the fact that the exact same thing happened to you means it wasn't a coincidence. There is some sort of serious security threat identified by Facebook with messages being sent between users and eBay - maybe something to do with the link they send you to verify your account. I was told I was banned for reasons related to "cybersecurity".
I've stopped communicating with them entirely on Facebook for risk of this happening again; I've been chatting with them on Twitter/X when I need to as I don't care what happens to that social media account.

·11 months agoBangladesh tariffs are not 20%. That is the Trump tariff. You need to add the product specific tarri to that. For example, I sold shoe made in Bangladesh, the tariff is going to be 57.50%. See attached. You can use Stallion Express dashboard to calculate tariffs with the breakdown. I get the correct HS Code from Chitchats Tools page and then I enter that into Stallion dashboard to get tariffs calculation. Remember convert USD to CAD. So ebay last calculation seems about correct.

·11 months agoWhat does Zonons and Canada Post show? I think postal shipments are not subject to the IEEPA tariff, aka would be 7.99 less, or possible they are only subject to IEEPA and would be 15.01 less but curious if thats how it would price out!
itolduandso
·11 months agoWhere did you read that saying IEEPA not applying to postal shipments.
https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/support/campaign/shipping-to-us-duty-updates.page
Goods valued at US$800 or less that are shipped to the United States through Canada Post’s postal network will be subject to International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariff rates based on the product’s country of origin. For items manufactured in China, for example, the current IEEPA rate is 34% for most products.
That would be a bonus for all sellers in China. That would be like if Trump was to buy is own leg.
regs43
·11 months agoI said they are possibly not subject to IEEPA, or they are ONLY subject to IEEPA. I ship tariff free stuff, so not sure but I know that Chit Chats and stallion etc have to collect more stuff similar to what Fedex and UPS does. Postal imports are under a different set of rules for this tariff stuff. Aka its good to check all avenues 🙂
I did a quick manual test on zonos for $40.00 Shoes with Bandeldesh as the country and it showed $8.00 for tariffs. So only the 7.99 IEEPA seems to apply on my testing, thus saving $15.00 minus the Zonos processing fee of like $4.79 on the app ($1.99+some % of item value with auto billing on Canada Post).
Either way this is like $10 cheaper for the tariffs (postage cost could rule out the savings, but worth checking)

·11 months agoAs far as issues with EIS?
I was basically live for one whole day for EIS (and I received 2 EIS orders, 1 to the US and 1 to Sweden last Friday Oct 10). Since then, my listings were on and off for showing EIS. Some showed EIS for US and some did not. No rhyme nor reason. Then it seemed to work for all my listings again for showing EIS for USA, except there was a 2 to 3 day lag after entering a new listing or if you revised a listing. The following day, one of the lagging days would go live. But then, as of yesterday, not one of my 800 listings showed EIS for the USA. A few were showing it for Int'l. I have been spot checking every day. I haven't had a new order on eBay .ca since. Not to anywhere.
Those 2 EIS orders I got? They still haven't been delivered to the Hub because the hub is just a closed door and no one answers the door (see my previous post). My carrier has tried every day for 3 days. So, it's been a week since I got the orders (Monday was a holiday), and my parcels have not made it to the hub. Great delivery time. I live 20 minutes up the road from the Hub. I may end up with these boxes being returned to me by my carrier. Then what?? Go pound on the door of the Hub myself??????

·11 months agoUpdate on the EIS warehouse for parcel deliveries. Apparently, the Chit Chats carrier who showed the pics of the unmanned door was at the WRONG ENTRANCE. eBay, the carrier and Chit Chats have had communications about the CORRECT entrance and the EIS warehouse is to improve signage so this doesn't happen again.
One of my 2 EIS parcels has since been successfully delivered today. The other parcel is supposed to go out again soon, to be delivered and the local carrier Chit Chats uses has been advised of the correct entrance for any future deliveries there.
