Ebay algorithm - USA and EU
I am curious to know if ebay is actively suppressing Canadian listings from American and European buyers right now due to recent tariff and regulatory measures implemented by both regions?
I heard for sure it is suppressing most EU buyers from Canadian listings due to the new rules but I suspect its suppressing American views as well.
Thoughts?

·1 month agoMy USA sales at the moment still seem to be doing OK, but there has DEFINITELY been a big drop in sales to anywhere in Europe that’s not UK ever since they made those recent import duty tax changes. I’m not happy about that at all!

·1 month agoMy overseas sales average one in 15 . I've seen no change in the past year, after checking my records.
My overseas sales rose slightly as a percentage, but that is because my US sales have dropped with the shenanigans and tariffs.

·1 month ago · EditedI have +_ 5500 listings. Since Aug. 18, I haven't had a single sale to EU countries; the EU has been a very strong customer base for me for the last 20+ years. After contacting eBay, I was told everything is ok with my account, no issues.
Because of my concern, my case was escalated, and I was told I would be contacted, but I never heard back from eBay support. Interestingly, my sales to non-EU countries since Aug 18 have increased.??

·1 month agoI had a relatively significant slow spell since end of August, almost zero sales anywhere. I did list a batch of new items on Friday, and over the weekend, I had a decent number of sales to folks in the US as well as the remaining European countries I ship to as well as a chunk of Canadian. About half were to repeat customers which is about my normal level.

·1 month ago · EditedI have around 3.000 listings and didn't notice any difference in international and European traffic/sales, maybe except of the UK, which - for some reason - fell off a cliff. Instead, I shipped 5 orders to Taiwan today, and I am over the moon ;-)

·1 month agoWhy not go to the community boards for one of the EU sites and ask users to try searching for your items?

OP1 month agoI might actually message an old customer ive mine.
Do you know exactly which countries are impacted by the most recent rule changes regarding recycling and registration etc.?

·1 month agoAs we’re talking about an EU directive, I would imagine it would cover all the EU member states.
You’ve probably seen this page already, but others reading this thread may have not:

My last international sale was over 2 months ago (non USA). Used to have 3 to 5 per in the past. Even Australia was somewhat regular. Now without a CP tracked default eIS has become a non starter...at least in my selling world.
If you use promoting I have been getting reminders to boost %. Same goes for creating a promotion. I've been seeing as the "eBay suggestion" 12 +++ % to get a bump in traffic. Sometimes higher...depending on category. If you promote at the lowest rate you will be lucky to have any additional sales from it. I got another eBay message on an antique book to implied either lower price or offer free shipping. (First time I had seen a notice like that.)
Regarding throttling, since I have been selling on here, at times it sure feels like it. Like an on off switch with a mind of its own. What triggers sales 1 week does little the next. I've asked in the forum on several occasions if any sellers have noticed a major spike from "eBay tinkering" and I don't recall ever seeing a yay that jumped out at me. I have seen/heard the opposite. Personally I don't buy seasonal. There's a kazillion listings on eBay with many more lookiloos which should but hasn't made it easier to be seen with ANY consistency...The end result actually generating sales.

OP1 month agoSo youd say its likely ebay is hiding us from EU.
I heard its mainly because of the new recycling laws they have where you have to pay fees and register etc. to sell there. A for sure death call for micro businesses trying to sell into the EU.
Hopefully they can reform this.
Hopefully in a few years from now both the USA and EU are more stable to do business with. Micro business ecommerce is taking a beating right now.

There is a possibility your specific items are getting blocked because eBay's AI "believes" your items are dangerous goods...even though they may not be. Once AI kicks in it is very challenging to unteach it....anything.
How closely do you monitor your traffic reports? I used to average about 3000 +- per month. Now slightly over 2000. With 2300 listings.

OP1 month agowell ive sold internationally numerous times iver the years but I have noticed a slight downtick since May and I have hear about new rules regarding recycling and tariffs etc. so im just trying to get a handle on things.
I want to shore up as many Canadian and International sales as possible. I figure my loyal American buyers will keep coming back but new buyers are more skiddish thanks to the orange circus clown

·1 month agoLast week I had 2 sales to the UK and one to the Netherlands. Those were the first in a while though (aside from the USA).

OP1 month agoI thought shipments to the EU were halted unless you registered with some program and hired a legal representative and a whole load of regulatory nonsense ?
