Ebay changes to Payment Terms of Use. BURIED in legaleze of course
Interesting. They mention changes due to Canadian Retail Payments Activities Act, so they just dump you by link into the entire thing, rather than just spelling out specific changes, if any. Meanwhile, I like this part; Ebay's way of acting like a bank:
"Funds received by us on your behalf represent an unsecured claim for payment against us, but do not constitute deposits. ECCA may combine your funds with the funds of other ECCA customers in pooled custodial accounts and invest the funds in accordance with applicable law. You do not have any ownership interest in these investments and any interest earned from these investments will be retained by us."

·11 months ago@shallow_karl they've actually said in the payments terms of use that they earn interest on the funds since October 2023. I believe this update just makes things more explicit for Canada specifically just to check compliance boxes for the Canadian Retail Payment Activities Act, but that doesn't mean they weren't already earning interest on funds previously.

It's too bad they just can't be ummm forthright and clearly explain what the actual changes or updates are instead of having to go through those announcements with a fine toothcombm a very large cup of coffee or needing a lawyer for clarification. Also why any updated pages should be dated. That "used to be" a standard business practice.

·11 months ago" At eBay, we’re committed to making our policies clear and our services easy to use "
it's just eBay looking out for us as usual. Nothing to see here just like taking fees on the taxes they collect and then taxing us on those very fees 😉

·1 year agoSo at last eBay will be investing the funds which until now they held in escrow (of some sort) and making interest on them.

·1 year agoI haven't gone over the changes word for word but it appears to me they are just clarifying what they have been doing for the past year or two.
