Ebay charged me for a unused shipping label
Summary: A participant recounted their frustration with being charged by eBay for unused shipping labels, even after attempting to cancel them as advised by an eBay agent. Despite making multiple calls over several months, the issue remains unresolved, and they were informed that it couldn't be investigated due to archival of records. Another participant shared a similar experience, detailing how they were charged for labels despite errors with the return address and subsequently facing a blame shift between eBay and UPS. The absence of a label voiding process, which previously existed, adds to users' challenges in disputing charges.

·2 months agoI have been dealing with a very similar issue. I printed a label early February, immediately noticed it had the wrong return address, thew it in the garbage and printed a second label. Ebay charged for both labels and I've been calling ebay and UPS ever since trying to get my money back. UPS says eBay has to refund me (which makes sense to me since they took the money directly out of my chequing account) but eBay says I have to talk to UPS to get my money back. It's so frustrating.

eBay's new policy is to not charge if it is not used. There is no actual void process any longer and there was no heads up advising of this. All very bizarre!!! Voiding is a confirmation that the label was NOT going to be used. Normally it should give you a choice like didn't print, customer cancelled, wrong input, bad address etc.
@devon@ebay Is the void process going to be reinstated? It is still an option with CP etc.

·5 months agoYou got off lucky. I purchased and shipped by UPS after buying a hipping label from eBay/UPS. UPS then lost the shipment. After spending days trying to get any money from UPS, they just kept on saying they owe me nothing. Even after admitting that they lost the shipment.
They did not spend much time on this and it looks like a cash grab. If you use it, know that bad things can happen. This is unreliable and no responsibility is taken by UPS.

·5 months agoWho would have ever thought a company could remove the function formally known as "void"?

·7 months agoMaybe ask this question on reddit instead of on an official eBay boardsince you indicated you circumvented eBay rules to cut them out.

·7 months agoDoes your unused UPS label tracking number show "On the way" when you look at the tracking on UPS?
I would not expect a response, but have you reached out to ebaylabels@ebay.ca ?

Ebays policy is you arent charged until the label is scanned. I had one guy from ups tell me you are charged the moment you print the label off, which is why it automatically went active.

·7 months agoWhen a label does not or isn't planning to be used (or doesn't print) the proper procedure is to void (cancel) the label. You will be charged in whatever timeline the courier/mail is using and then be credited thereafter...usually 10 to 15 business days. (+-)

·5 months agoSimilar thing happened to me... told by ebay agent to cancel the label, followed step by step guidance over the phone and read to them the error pop up “there is no need to void the label since you wont be charged until it is scanned”. There was physically no way to cancel the label even thought the ebay order was cancelled so I am charged for the UPS label I never used. Around the same timeframe I was charged retroactively 127.11 CAD for a Fedex label that was purchased for 83.48 CAD. Ebay records as well as Fedex records indicate my declared weight and dimensions were correct.
I have made at least 7 documented calls to ebay support over a period of 3+ months Oct/Nov, 2025 to Feb 10, 2026. Calls would last for more than an hour with a quick call being about 40 minutes. One call I waited 1hr 10min to speak to leadership team member and then 1hr 35min talking to them. The last call was Feb 10, 2026 and I was actually told that records had been archived and they could not investigate and that I should have made a claim with the carrier a long time ago. Of course the carriers all say what you would expect (as I kept telling ebay) the transaction was with ebay so it is ebay that must issue any refunds that are due. IMO this can only be by design... IMO.
I was curious and did a search online for related class action and found quite a few users reporting this problem.
Did you come to any conclusions on what is to be done about this? ...in your case, in general?

Previously it was possible to VOID labels instead of this new way of No need because you will not be charged error message. The option to void was there (in the past) for approx. 7 days. Wondering if this option has been removed.
@devon@ebay Can you shed more light on this. Is there a simple procedure for sellers to dispute labels. without getting this back and forth between eBay CS and check with the courier? Because eBay owns the accounts attached to the labels any reversals should be simple to dispute via eBay in a reasonable timeframe.
Same question in cases of lost or damaged items where specific contact info is required from both sender and receiver before any claim will be processed???
