eBay charging for shipping fees 7 months later. Is this fair?
Summary: A participant expressed frustration about being charged by eBay for a Canadian shipping label purchased seven months prior, despite the delivery being completed quickly. Multiple participants confirmed receiving similar charges due to a technical error on eBay's part, leading to delayed billing for various shipping labels and fees between July and October. While some were understanding and verified that the charges aligned with their records, others shared concerns about the lack of timely notifications and the implications for their accounting practices. The discussion highlighted the need for better transparency and real-time processing of charges by eBay to avoid such discrepancies in the future. Some participants offered practical steps to monitor related transactions, while eBay provided limited information, further frustrating the users.
Not fair. Why the delay. Had no idea It was not paid for after purchase. Seven months a long time to reconcile this. Should I be entitled to a refund from Canada Post via eBay for delaying charges for no reason? Parcel was delivered in four days

·1 year agothey are getting alot better in billing, most appear the day after the date the label was purchased. back in the day (last summer) I did notice quite a few were missing or not billed for several weeks. At the end of the day when I got my recoup bill, it wasnt as bad as I thought. As I'm sure many of us have noticed that customers had developed blue balls of sorts for buying stuff online thanks to the CP strike and went nuts (bahaha) once the back to work notice was issued. I'm just this week starting to notice a bit of a slowdown of sales from Canadian customers.

·1 year agoIf it is impossible for eBay to charge for shipping fees in a timely manner there needs to be a way of holding, at our discretion an "emergency" balance. Not perfect but better than what we have now. With PayPal/CP, CP labels(directly) and Shippo we were in control of how those charges got paid. It seems now eBay is more in control. I personally have never liked the concept of my eBay/bank account funds being a "float" for eBay to access at their whim but we never really had much of a say in the matter.
As I posted previously there needs to be a improved way to reconcile these charges as they are being processed. A checkbox option should not be a major job of programming in Shipping Labels & All Transactions. (I'm old school. I still remembers how to balance a chequebook. Remember when each line item included the balance after the credit/debit?). That should have been there from the beginning. (In checking recent charges for labels it doesn't even specify the date the label was created. Only a date it was processed/billed triggered by eBay to us. Similar to the display when funds cleared.

·1 year agoThis looks like an "eBay" issue with its interactions/transactions and with many shipping platforms it uses in its eBay labels interface (why am I not surprised), Canada Post, UPS, Fed Ex, looks like the labels were being generated but not charged to the respective "Shipping" services or Sellers (or at least a few).

·1 year agoOur total was $89.64 for 6 labels across Aug/Sept/Oct. 5 tracked packet USA and 1 domestic Expidited Parcel.

·1 year agoI had 8 labels go through yesterday that were old (Oldest was from Aug 5th, newest was Oct. 28th) totaling $83.24. Hopefully this is a one time thing and not something that will go in the future. Also would have been nice to get more notice than just 1 week before the charges roll through.
I know they said in the original email that selling costs/fees etc were not being charged, but what about Refunds?

Is there a common theme in all these "charges"

I was charged about 3 weeks ago for a label I made for a package I shipped to New Zealand at the end of July months ago, but that was the only one.
I was not billed anything on the 22/23 Jan & I did get the "Automated" notification like all...

·1 year agoDifferent destinations in the US and International, all Tracked Packet - but I almost don't use any other service (only 3% of my customers are from Canada).

·1 year agoDoes not seem to by any "theme". One of mine was for a UPS label, so its not just CP labels.

I had 5 late charges total, two on January 22nd (for September & October) and 3 in October (for July).
They were all within Canada, two were Expedited Lite, the other three were Expedited Parcel.
Not sure why these ones were any different than the others I sent same time frame with same service that were billed normally.
Coincidence or not none of my Tracked Package USA or Tracked Package International were affected.

·1 year agoI got a charge for four September/October labels today - 48 dollars in total. I still don't have any problem with these late charges... I am just surprised, that's all.

·1 year agoFor my part, it show labels being charged and when I view the detail of the charge, it's from October and September orders.
I have 4 of them, right now. It shows in "All Transactions" directly. Clicking on "View" next to the transaction, it shows the "Label reserved" date as the moment we actually bought them.
I don't really care, since I bought them, of course I must pay them. Just wish this bug will be fixed in the future, it's just a bit annoying having them being processed months later. 😉
msau4301
·1 year agoSame for me, it is under all transactions as well and I got all my info by clicking view. I was billed for 2 yesterday, and since January 22nd was the date they said they were billing these "missed" charges I'm assuming (hoping) that will be it. According to my records there aren't any more pending.

·1 year agoThey don't overcharge. I verified some of my late CP charges - everything seems to be OK. They were just late, that's all.
I have to praise here our CP for quick refunds for cancelled labels - the refunds came quickly, just after 2-3 days.
Personally, I didn't even notice the additional charge. I did only wonder, why the price was different: 8.04 instead of 8.02 😊

As of late I have had labels charged before being dropped off and at the other end of the rainbow several days after being delivered. Anything that did qualify for an audit can be whenever they so happen to choose to forward the bill. Can be a week later or 2 months. As I recall I have had 2 but very small. Fortunately. Measure twice...3 times if it's borderline and proof until you are blue in the face or absolutely positive.

·1 year agoI was wondering if you or anyone reading this can tell me if you use expedited lite? I suspect the additional label fees have something to do with that service. I guess we will find out soon.
I ask as I may have identified the problem and have written about this on the community. It is currently being investigated and hoping my conclusions are correct. If so our problems may go away.
Alternatively it is as stated and nothing to worry about other than the realization we all have to pay what was properly owed.

·1 year agoNo, I got today a late charge for US TP, purchased in August. Personally, I don't have any problem with late charges and I wonder, why so many do.
It's almost like a special promotion, kind of "buy now, pay 6 month later" 😆

I had a discussion with ebay help on this particular topic yesterday. If you go to your all transactions page and click on the tab at far right called Charges and Payments you may or may not have one of these belated charges. I did. How it is identified is the big problem. My charge came through Dec 14th. After doing the digging I determined it was for a postage label created Aug 1, 2024.
This is how it displays:

·1 year agoLOTZ is way more helpful than eBay themselves, as usual, which is not surprising. LOL
Following your steps, I see 2 refunds from December that I gave back to buyers during the CP strike, as well as 3 labels which they say I didn't pay for in November. Those are the exact cost of the 3 labels, not anything like an overage charge, etc.
I had to do detective work using the emails they sent-out for "we sent your payout" to align the items they said I was never charged-for, but if I look at the payout button attached to the email link from Nov, there is no label charge for 2 of the 3 labels, so those 2 labels do match-up with what is currently under Charges and Payments.
However, for the third label, I cannot find out whether they truly did or did not charge me. It says the label cost came out of my available funds, so that would require more digging than I currently have time-for.
For the 2 refunds they gave me in Dec, it says they were sent to my CC, but as I have no paper receipt from that yet, that will also need to be corroburated by checking my statement online.

Yup, I got my two charges today. They were from September and October of last year. The amounts were correct to the penny, just hadn't been charged yet. At least I had a heads up the date they would be charged because of the email they sent a week or so ago. Hopefully whatever issue caused all these missed charges has been fixed (we can dare to dream).

From what I was reading it sounded like the window for this glitch started some time in July and ended in August. So guess later than had been reported. Did you see any special eBay notes explaining the charges?
ericsells75
·1 year agoThere was a 'glitch' and this happened to a few labels. It sucks but you did buy the label and are obligated to pay for it.

·1 year agoTo correct this error, the missing postage label costs will be applied to your account and billed on January 22, 2025. The other missing charges for eBay fees, return labels and other selling costs will not be charged to you.

·1 year agoI'm curious to see if it's labels that weren't being charged for or if they decided it was labels that they under charged for. We do a lot of fedex.
john_koenig99
·1 year agoWell, you bought the label, the order was delivered and you weren't charged for it, backthen. Therefore, you have to pay for it now. It sucks, but eBay seems to be in the right in this case.
