Ebay Lables getting charged more after purchasing
Summary: Participants discussed ongoing issues with eBay labels where users are experiencing unexpected charges after purchasing shipping labels. Sellers have noticed discrepancies between the weight and dimensions entered and what appears on the final label, leading to higher costs. lotzofuniquegoodies and others shared examples of overcharges, questioning why these adjustments are occurring without proper explanation. Some have observed this issue persisting since 2025, while others have noticed occasional undercharges. Recommendations to keep detailed records and contact support were made, with isamu.kun mentioning a previous support ticket that had been closed without resolution.
I have noticed now the past 3 months every single lable i have created and purchased that after a few weeks upon getting processed on my ebay account, I am getting charged more then originally when i created/purchased.
I am always adding 10-15 grams to packages and more to any parcels and outsizing by 1cm or 2cm when i create the lable and purchase it only after to be charged extra anywhere from $0.45 to $2.25.
Is this now the norm what ebay does cause what is the point of creating and purchasing Ebay Lables when after they charge you more.
Lastest package from Scarborough to Mississauga Ontario upon cretaion and purchase was
$14.81 21X16X3cm 60gr bubble mailer which is smaller then what i used as size/weight and now get charged $17.07
At this rate might as well go with Chichats or Stallion then using Ebay Lables.

·3 weeks agoIf this is still happening to anyone I suggest reaching out to eBay support! I had originally called the back in April/May and was told that this was a known issue under ALERT16587, and that I could email them examples of orders where it was happening for them to look into. So every month I'd grab a list of affected orders and email them, and wouldn't hear anything back and never saw any credit adjustments.
Ended up giving them a call today as I started getting 'connection refused' delivery bouncebacks from the customerhelp email address, so I decided to call in today. Happy I did, turns out ALERT16587 was closed a while ago, and they never received any of my previous emails! They opened a new ticket for me to look into my examples. What's annoying is how intermittent it isTo the EIS hub it's fine, but within Canada it's a crapshot if it charges me double on my shipping or not. Considering this is still happening to me as recent as last week it's frustrating!

·3 months agoMy recommendation for the steps sellers can take if you receive an unexpected eBay shipping label adjustment:
If you are seeing a difference between the amount shown when you create/purchase an eBay label and the amount later charged, I would suggest taking the following steps:
1. Save the original label details
Before shipping, keep a copy/screenshot of:
package weight entered;
package dimensions entered;
shipping service selected;
quoted label cost.
2. Compare the adjustment notice
When eBay applies an additional charge, check:
the adjustment reason;
revised weight;
revised dimensions;
any surcharge applied;
whether the carrier name is shown.
3. Verify the package you actually shipped
Confirm:
the actual package size;
the actual weight;
whether the packaging changed after the label was purchased;
whether the label was attached to the correct parcel.
4. Request the supporting calculation if it does not reconcile
If your original information was accurate, ask eBay/carrier:
what measurement caused the adjustment;
who recorded the revised measurement;
the calculation used to arrive at the additional charge.
5. Keep a record of repeated issues
If this happens repeatedly:
keep a spreadsheet of original label cost vs final charge;
record the tracking number;
record the adjustment amount and reason.
Patterns are much easier to address when supported by transaction-level data.
The key point is that sellers should be able to reconcile any additional charge back to the original shipping calculation and understand exactly why it changed.

·3 months agoWOW, it also finally happened to me, too!
I added 3 cm to each edge and 30 g more, and still was charged more. Not a lot ($1.50) but still. What is the possibility I made an error measuring the package? I would estimate it at ZERO. Shipped tens of thousands of packages, so surely I am not a newbie.
They add $1.50 to every package, so they get millions from nowhere. They expect, no one will complain because of an additional $1 charge, right? Because we cannot prove anything - package has been delivered, opened, destroyed.

hansatrade
·3 months agoI don't remember exactly, but something like 320 g (was 290g), 56 by 9 cm (was 53 x 7). Expedited. Got for 14.30, finally charged 15.80. A regular shape, not a tube, or anything weird.
jtg204
·3 months agoFor 56x9cm, ebay labels would generate a label for 56x20cm instead of what you entered (and what ebay records as you entering).
Even if 3rd length is only 2.5cm in height, this would increase the final charge from what you should be charged.

·3 months agoHas been an issue for over 10 months now:
https://community.ebay.ca/forum/selling-24/topic/ebay-labels-for-canada-post-expedited-parcels-upsized-and-over-charged-if-under-23x20cm-minimum-2948/?focus_post=35135
AI assisted explanation:
In some cases the increased charges can be explained by eBay labels and/or Canada Post generating Expedited Parcel labels with incorrect dimensions. When this happens, you're later charged for a larger parcel because the dimensions have been increased enough to change the volumetric (cubic) weight.
Minimum dimensions appear to be automatically applied when either of these measurements is below:
Longest side: 23 cm
Second-longest side: 20 cm
Height is also sometimes changed, although it's less clear exactly when that adjustment is made. I think I've seen reports of it change to 2cm and 2.5cm.
For example, if you enter dimensions of 56 × 9 × 6 cm, the estimated postage is based on a cubic weight of about 0.6 kg. However, the generated label may instead show 56 × 20 × 6 cm, increasing the cubic weight to about 1.34 kg. You'll then be charged for the higher weight class.
Similarly, if you're mailing a large but thin envelope, increasing the thickness to 2.5 cm may be enough to move it into the next weight tier.
The problem is easy to miss because the estimated postage shown before purchasing the label uses the dimensions you entered. The dimensions are only changed on the generated label itself not the dimensions eBay shows on label details, so unless you check the printed label (or the VE/dimensions shown on it), you may not notice the discrepancy until you're charged later.

·3 months ago@devon@ebay Are we any closer to a resolution/solution with this issue? There are many users waiting for credits that go back months. In the past the charges were all consistently accurate when you compared what was stated it would be charged at and what was eventually billed. Until they weren't starting approx. August 2025.

·4 months agoExcept that Expedited 'Lite' does not exist at Canada Post either online or at the counter. If you ship a lot of smaller, light items it makes a BIG difference on the rates. If I can keep it under 200 grams...I want the savings. It's very maddening to see the charges increase when billed for items that you know are within the stated guidelines.

Expedited parcel sent to eis hub on the 12th, quoted 12.19. Magically 13.44 when billed a week later. Smaller parcel with exact measurements (with rounding) inputted. Why can't eBay's labels postage calculator no longer get it right when billing hits the fan?
Bigger question if rate is increased why can't ebay include the math as to what is changing the final amount?
jtg204
·4 months agoIt was for the one changed from 0.47kg to 0.55kg?
@devon@ebay is Canada Post changing the dimensions on labels so they are larger and charged for moe being looked into?
lotzofuniquegoodies
·4 months agoDifferent one. 23 x 17 x 6 morphed to 23 x 20 x 6. (original label page 17 x 23 x 6)
Weight entered was .330. Cubed is magically/creatively now 0.55. Appears 0.55 is new default minimum.
Additional example: Sent May 15th. Billed May 19th. Calgary to Wpg.
Entered26 x 21 x 2. Label shows 26 x 21 x 2.5. Display was 21 x 26 x 2.
Weight did not change. .320.
Rate when created. 14.55. Billed 14.55.
As a side I have never entered 0.5 for a measurement so unsure how that changed.

New example of this insanity.
Shipment to hub - Expedited CP May 21.2026

Ebay Labels page details 14 x 34 x 5 290 grams.

Can this be addressed ASAP please. Canadian seller(s) have/are being incorrectly charged for labels, both Expedited an Expedited lite since Oct of 2025 with no audit being done to correct these overcharges. There has been limited in the way of followup other than it is being looked into or has been passed on the correct team.

·4 months agoExcept that doesn't appear to be the problem. The problem is that eBay (or Canada Post, not sure who is at fault) is considering them as parcels instead of packets, which have a size limit the same as expedited lite. Parcels apparently have minimum billable lengths and widths. eBay, for some reason, appears to be bumping up items that should qualify as packets to the minimum sizes for parcels instead.
lotzofuniquegoodies

Bigger problem being is that we have been reporting this as an issue for months (with examples) and eBay refuses directly address the situation or give us their explanation of what is happening under the hood.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·4 months agoHas anyone seen a batch of revised charges from CP lately. I got 2 awhile back for Expedited lite but that was the end of it. I had many more than 2 that were revised for no known reason.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·4 months agoSeeing this is continueing to happen to every order processed it gives the impression eBay labels when it is connected to CP is having a MINIMUM parcel limits being applied without us ever being advised or it being documented....anywhere. (Whenever the keyed in amount is less than the limit.) This is inflates the billable charge causing revised charges to arrive when shipment is billed several days later. (Try sending a expedited light parcel with 251 grams inputted.)
In the past, (PayPal labels/Shippo Labels/CP Labels etc) if you entered in something below the documented limits there wasn't a problem. (No error message.) If you entered in something above prescribed limits you were blocked from creating a label due to that order.
Seem plausible???
Disclaimer notes: Applicable for Expedited shipments. Hard to tell what is in play for expedited lite because the label does not flag it as expedited lite and uses default of 5 x 5 x 5 cm no matter what measurements you input and shipment (should) qualify.

OP5 months agoI know since Dec/Jan every bubble mailer or parcel no matter what weight and size i put down when i create and purchase the shipping lable that what ever amount shows to be paid comes back after 2 weeks and charged more. from 20 cents to 2.50.
Mean while packages bubble mailers under 250g have sent as Expd light and if weight is 50g i add extra 10g and if bubble mailer is 22cmx18cmx2cm i always put next numbers up 23cmx19cmx3cm and between the mentioned weight and sizes may show same $$$ on ebay after though 10 days or even 3 weeks get notice of payment for that shipping lable and is always upcharged.
I think Ebay needs to change system where once you create a lable and buy/print that then funds on the spot should be charged to account and if at later time an upcharge takes place a PHYSICAL EXPLANATION should be with in the notice you recieve of the upcharge or even if its a credit, meanwhile thers is no such information on the reason of the extra charge where it be WEIGHT OR SIZE none is provided thus sellers have to call in for like every single time, which is rediculous.
Im still waiting to hear from Ebay on this but alos for past lables upcharges going back 5/6 months.

·5 months agoKnown issue, see my previous post.
Expedited Lite labels to Mississauga's eIS hub are being treated as Non-Lite (Regular Expedited). Upcharge can vary, but for me, it was on average $2. I think they are aware, as I have been receiving refunds for some of the labels (not all, like 25 out of 70 maybe?). I can't tell if it's fixed or not, as I haven't sent anything with eIS in about 2 weeks.
Also, the labels were billed late and took into account the new pricing (with fuel surcharge), costing on average $0.20 to 0.30 more. I have not received refunds for those, and I doubt they will do anything. Shameful really.

OP5 months agoAfter speaking Ebay rep i believe ebay is and has been overcharging us on lables.
Reason
I called Canada post as i was advised by Ebay rep to do so as Canada post would know reason why increase cost from when i cretaed and printed the shipping lable.
Lable was Expidited light under 250grams
Package was bubble mailer #000 21X16X3cm with even less then 60gr (53) but i round off to 60gr
Total charged to
But when shipped and gone through Canada post Ebay gets supposedly will get an invoice from Canada post thus what Ebay may have showed may not be the discount rate Ebay gets. Or if the size weight is more then when the lable is printed.
Canada post would not provide any info on reason of the extra differnt price as its between Ebay and Canada post.
Meanwhile when i had asked Ebay rep why the price difference was told they Canada post knows but they (Ebay) would need to look into it why the cost difference.
I would think when ebay gets the invoice on a lable from Canad Post it would have all info on size weight that Canada Post charged Ebay for that actual Lable.
So now i have to wait until who knows when Ebay reps look into this as have noticed it from December that just about every type of lable created through Ebay was always charged extra amounts after.
This issue could be on a larger scale and have to say if its error then all sellers combined could be out $$$$ large amounts over charges.

33 posts in this discussion with lots of examples and conjecture but nothing in the way of an explanation from eBay as to why it really is happening and when we can expect an actual resolution with the credits that are owed. Not even factoring in the numerous other related discussions that have been created on this issue over the last year + reporting similar complaints that have NEVER been fully resolved.
