eBay Payouts
Summary: lotzofuniquegoodies shared a problem with eBay overruling settings to force payouts, which caused issues with covering postage charges due to inconsistent label processing during a mail strike. Despite confirming correct settings with eBay, the issue persisted over several months. recped suggested that only monthly settings exist, and transtraders reported similar issues. lotzofuniquegoodies expressed frustration over the lack of reliable hold fund features and cited concerns about forced payouts interfering with financial management. Participants discussed contacting eBay support for resolution and highlighted discrepancies between different eBay platforms.
An FYI for anyone this applies to.
eBay has a lock you can put on payouts. Unfortunately at their discretion(eBay) can override and force a payout. Was waiting on charges for several postage charges from early Sept to come through. A few have already been delivered and the rest are in limbo, held up with the mail strike. This morning got a notice that payout had been forced. In confirming my settings the tab is still locked off. From a sellers perspective this IS the only way to hold funds. Made even more challenging not knowing when having consistent sales will be a thing. Because there is no consistency with CP label processing, afraid to imagine what others are up against with UPS/Fedex and duty chargebacks or returns and their schedule for payment processing. Just not a fan of willy nilly charges to my bank account. I currently have 1 order to ship with no method withing eBay for shipment. All CP options have been deactivated. Nothing displays for UPS or Fedex even if I wanted to ship that way. Having choice should NOT be a bad thing!!!!

PS. Are there sellers still processing CP shipments with CP software with intention of creating and then just dropping off when strike has been resolved?

·6 months agoI don't know if this is related, but I noticed a couple days ago that I can no longer initiate payouts through my Ebay app on my phone. The option for that just disappeared.

The first time this happened to me was around Nov 2025. Since then it has been multiple times in 2026. Getting payouts for a single sale is totally useless especially when they "suggest" for us to hold funds to cover postage. I haven't done a full audit recently but believe I am over a dozen ebay labels waiting to be charged. And as far as I know there is no way to do a bulk transfer from bank to MP to cover. eBay pulls based on a time limit.
For now all we can do is monitor daily and cross our fingers. Regarding your observation, no idea. I do everything ebay via a pc. I do know from others that the app for some tools is bare bones for similar features when compared to pc. It could be more under the hood tinkering.

If you compare the dot com version of MP to our version the US version has a number more bells and whistles. Sadly those features are not making their way here.
Regarding the forced payout, I would pass it on to support so they know it is happening to more users than they suspect. I am to the point with the frustrations CS causes users most just throw hands up in the air or have another drink. As for ebay removing a feature there should be an announcement if it is programming move. It may be a technical glitch they are not aware of. I believe on the dot com forum there is a group for passing on App issues but don't quote me on that. Not sure how US and Cdn app vary or mirror each other.

·6 months agoWell, guess I spoke to soon (or the ebay gods read this forum?), bacause I got a forced payout today. Really sucks cause I was holding money there to cover shipping fees.
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP6 months ago@devon@ebay What is going on with this tool? This is the ONLY way sellers can hold funds to cover ebay fees like shipping costs. This has been happening for several months with no explanation from ebay as to why.

·9 months agoThere is a "toggle" (on/off) for enabling or disabling sheduled payouts. Its not specifically called a "lock". I think thats what he was reffering too.
I got a forced payout today as well and was wondering who the hell initiated it. I thought maybe I got hacked. Thankfully I checked my bank account a few hours later and the money was there.
I have it set to on-demand payouts so I can cover shipping labels/fees and this is the first time this is happened to me that I can recall and I am not to happy about it as I have about 10 outstanding labels still to come through.
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP6 months agoThis is still a thing. I've had mine set to toggle off for the past 2 weeks. It has been over ridden by eBay twice. I am trying to hold a balance which someone else had suggested to them to do by eBay to cover who know's when will be charged postage fees.
When I went back to my settings this morning (after seeing ANOTHER ebay forced payout.) It was back to the ON position. Something I did not do.
See Manage Payouts.

·6 months agoThats wierd. I have not had another since. It would be nice to know what initiates these forced payouts or if its just another ebay "glitch".

OP9 months agoI had this happen again. Another forced payout while my settings were set to off. According to FB help that should not happen unless you change your settings. Otherwise the setting should be firm for 90 days. They suggested I speak to use help link to contact to enquire further. FB said they can do nothing from there end for user settings etc. The only option from ebay help was a call back which does not give you a transcript. Only the options of replying to their survey or being disconnected. (Twice in the past 2 weeks following up.)
As a side I was leaving a balance to cover shipments created at the beginning of December that still haven't been processed. Right now they are accumulating.

I have never heard of such a thing except as what would happen if you have set up a Stored Value Account (aka Spendable Funds) which is not available in Canada.
The only Payout Schedule available to Canadian Sellers is Daily, Weekly or Monthly (plus On Demand if you are on weekly or monthly).
What is "FB Help"?
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP9 months ago@recped
It's an option on Payment summary page. Payout schedule tab lower down on left.
eBay for business Facebook help.
It's what was being suggested vs using ebay help and the agents from who know's where who do everything to get you off the line as quickly as possible. They can create tickets but with no status follow up when they are resolved.

·9 months agoI don't see anything there in the pop-up that says anything about locking your payouts.
There is nothing on this page that references locking your payouts:
https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/getting-paid/payouts-work-managed-payments-sellers?id=4814
My guess it that if you do not select a specified Payout Schedule it will default to one of the available options, probably Daily or maybe Monthly.

OP3 months agoHad this happen again. In the last 6 months since I first reported here this it has happened on 3 or 4 other occasions to me. I've reported this again to eBay. According to the agent I spoke to they couldn't locate any similar reports so it may either be happening randomly or users are just not noticing. They confirmed my settings were correct. (I confirmed as soon as I saw the payout notification.) They were confused too as to what was happening under the ebay hood. Holding a balance (if a user chooses to) should NOT be a problem. eBay should not be over riding our settings.
I knew I had a fees for postage about to appear. Of course right after the payout processed the charge for postage appeared. According to eBay there is nothing built in to reverse it.
If anyone has the same issue please report. Strength in numbers.

·3 months agoIt will continue to happen because there is no "lock" function. The longest period you can select is Monthly.

The reverse of the image in previous post is this where you choose when you NOT get paid out. When slider is in ON position you see what shows below. According to the CS I have spoken to on 2 occasions my settings were correct for putting a hold on payouts. The problem is the setting is not working 100% of the time.
When it is set to OFF this is how payout settings display.
Payout schedule: Off

·2 months agoThanks for the clarification, I had never noticed that it was possible to turn off Payouts completely (other than the forced ones apparently).
I don't really understand why anyone would want to do this, why not just let eBay pull the funds from your bank account? I'd rather have the money in my bank over letting eBay hold it (and earn interest).
