eBay's search and marketplace visibility.
Summary: clairescustomizedcustoms inquired about whether eBay's search system is unified across international marketplaces, particularly wondering if there's a search visibility difference between eBay.ca and eBay.com. As a Canadian seller mainly selling to U.S. buyers, they are curious if listing on different sites provides an advantage. recped responded that, in their opinion, there is no visibility difference for Canadian listings but noted potential disadvantages such as higher currency exchange fees and lack of Calculated Shipping when listing on eBay.com. ypdc_dennis pointed out that listing in different marketplaces could provide visibility advantages by allowing sellers to appear in location-restricted searches. clairescustomizedcustoms planned to seek further clarification from eBay support.
I have a question about eBay's search and marketplace visibility.
Is eBay search unified across its international marketplaces? For example, if I create the exact same listing on eBay.ca versus eBay.com, is there any difference in exposure or search visibility?
I'm a Canadian seller, but about 90% of my sales go to U.S. buyers, so I'm wondering if it makes any difference which eBay site I use to create my listings.
I recently heard someone say they list their items on eight different international eBay sites. Did I misunderstand what they meant, or is there actually a benefit to doing that?
More specifically:
Is there any recognized SEO or search visibility advantage to listing on eBay.com instead of eBay.ca for the exact same item?
Does the marketplace where the listing is created affect where it appears in search results, or is visibility determined primarily by the buyer's location and other ranking factors?
If there is a difference, how significant is it?

·3 months agoIs shipping set up for the target marketplace? If no shipping is specified then your listing will not have search priority.
If the buyer uses the advanced search features, they can restrict the results to the local marketplace. For example, I can tell search to only show results for Canada -- only listings on ebay.ca will appear -- but the seller could be in a different country. A case where listing in different marketplaces does give the seller an advantage for being seen by buyers. I know some sellers that list on .com and .ca -- a general search will show both listings, but when I restrict to just Canada only the one will show -- if they had just listed on .com then their listings would not have been seen at all.

My opinion is that for Canadian Listings it makes no difference in visibility (the same is NOT always true for listings on other eBay sites).
One significant difference, if your payout are currently in CAD and you list directly on .com your fees rates will go up by about 3% because you the seller will cover the currency exchange fee (instead of the buyer).
Another downside; you can't use Calculated Shipping if you list on .com but ship from Canada.
