eIS is broken, buyers unable to buy from me.
Summary: troys_toys1 reported an issue with eIS, stating that buyers are unable to purchase from them. marnotom! and kevsoddsandends are involved in the discussion, but no further details are provided on the problem or its resolution.
A buyer recently reached out to say I do not ship to his address so he cannot buy the jeans from me, I am enrolled in eIS and I have made many sales internationally using eIS already so there should be no reason I cannot ship to this buyer. Another buyer reached out yesterday to say the same thing.
I called eBay customer support and the "solution" they gave me was to remove "38x32" from my title and description. I did that, buyer still couldn't buy it. I called again and was given this same "solution", they also said I should use "other shipping services" which means I would have to deal with all customs paperwork, duties/fees/tariffs myself which will go one of two ways:
1. The buyer pays for the item + shipping, I then will have to pay duties/fees myself after the buyer has already paid for the item which will eliminate any profit or put me in the negative (tariffs/fees are often very expensive which is why my sales have tanked since the US tariffs). There is no way to charge buyers for tariffs so it's built into the final cost and I cannot ask buyers to pay me afterwards, also the price of tariffs changes based on the country of origin so how would I even know how much to charge even if I could.
2. The buyer pays for the item + shipping, I don't pay duties or fees and either the package is unable to be sent out, gets returned to sender at the border or the buyer gets hit with import fees/tariffs at their door (this happened to me at the beginning of the tariffs before eIS and many buyers declined and had it returned to me which cost me tons of money in return shipping costs and duties I was forced to pay).
Regardless of that I was not told WHY I can't use eIS when I've been using it already, what's changed? Also, why would putting the waist and inseam measurement that most sellers put in their titles like "38x32" make eIS not work? So other sellers can put that in their title and still ship but not me? This whole thing makes no sense. I was told they are passing my issue on to their leadership team and I will hear back within a week.
Any other Canadian sellers out there using eIS that are experiencing this same issue? What has customer support told you? If you have a fix for this I would appreciate the help!

·4 months ago@kevsoddsandends, 25 of your listings are now showing shipping rates to Ireland and 20 of them are showing shipping rates to the USA, so I'd say that a fix is slowly working its way through the system at this point.

·4 months agoThere are a couple of threads about this subject and I suggest you read and post to them if you have additional information to share. In addition, email the eIS Canada development/support team at eis@ebay.ca . If more sellers contact the eIS team, the team should get a better sense of how widespread this issue is.
Customer support is not based in Canada and generally not terribly useful for Canadian-specific issues.

OP4 months agoThank you, I will send the support team an email now. Also, just a random observation, I noticed you're very active in these discussion boards and have offered a lot of help and you seem to know what you're talking about when it comes to seller issues but when I checked out your eBay profile you don't seem to sell anything or have a past of selling? How is it that you know so much about these issues but don't seem to actually need this information yourself? Maybe I'm missing something, not trying to be rude or anything I'm just geniunely curious!

·4 months agoI have another eBay account, although I don't sell on that one anymore as I'm basically retired from eBay. My life partner and I sold on eBay during its Bronze Age and when we started, Canadian sellers had no access to electronic payments so we had to take cheques, money orders, and "carefully concealed cash" if buyers (understandably) didn't want to use eBay's escrow service. Eventually Billpoint (I know @femmefan1946 remembers that 😉) and PayPal became available to Canadian sellers, which made selling internationally a lot easier for both buyers and sellers.
I also have about 13 years background in brick and mortar retail, and a general interest in how things work.
Basically, I'm that retired dude who sits in the front row in a college or university class and annoys everyone else. That's it in a nutshell, I think. 😁
