EiS online yet? Address to EiS Hub in Mississauga? and Other Q's
Summary: In this discussion, participants are inquiring about the availability of eIS (Electronic Importer Statement) and its implementation on a platform, possibly related to handling item disclosures and shipping details. chicweb noted the introduction of a new field for the Country of Manufacture on a form, which automatically populates and suggested a tool to identify items missing this field. devon@ebay acknowledged the suggestion and agreed to share it with the Shipping team for potential inclusion as a feature. The participants also discussed options for including this information in quality reports until further implementation. Overall, the conversation centers around improving user experience with eIS fields and their integration on the platform.
Greetings Ebay Canada Community Members, Sellers and Buyer!
It is October and it was stated somewhere that the Ebay International Shipping would be launching sometime in October 2025.
I just wanted to know if EiS is online yet?
If it is, what is the procedure aside from shipping your sold item to a designated Hub somewhere is Mississuaga?
I'm also hopeful, once online, that Chit Chats can ship the item to the Hub, but as of yet, I am currently Time Away, awaiting the EiS to be active and with Canada Post in a labor dispute is causing headaches all around.
Cheers and All the Best to your Buying and Selling!!
Kindest,

·10 months agoThe postal code is most likely a virtual one (not a physical one) that only Canada Post recognizes (considering it was created by them), it's used for the delivery route for this high-traffic facility. Also, the facility has just been rented; maybe the address hasn't been updated in other carriers' databases. This is also why UPS will sometimes bill you the extra $7 for "address correction".

·11 months agoThey must have planned for items being carded to the post office. It's a trivial matter to just send someone down to the post office with a form stating they're authorized to act on behalf of the business (eIS in this case). To pick up an item addressed to a business address all you need to show is a Letter of Authorization stating you can act on behalf of the business.
That being said, the bigger question is why this happened in the first place. The only reason why it would be carded is if there was no one at the address to accept the delivery. Are the staff at eIS only working certain hours, and the business was closed when the letter carrier arrived? I imagine these are just growing pains with a very new system, but they need to figure out what's going on here and fast.
I wonder if eBay properly communicated with Canada Post regarding this new shipping hub. Once they start receiving hundreds of parcels a day Canada Post is going to very quickly figure out the nature of this relationship - they'll be removing the address from the letter carrier's route and sending designated trucks to service it as needed. They'll ensure someone is there to receive the truckload of parcels. They can't just card everything and take it to the post office - that poor post office is going to be insanely overhwhelmed if that were to happen. They might already be overwhelmed, I can't imagine @ct-v 's parcel was the only one sent there that day...
Another anecdote I saw on one of the Facebook groups: someone sent two parcels via ChitChats domestic service to the eIS hub. I don't know which company does final mile delivery for this service, but the carrier that tried to deliver them has tried two days in a row and failed; both times the tracking update has been "no one was available".

·11 months agoBeware: DO NOT SHIP TO EBAY'S HUB WITH CANADA POST
Yesterday I shipped a package to Ebay's International Shipping Center using a Canada Post expedited lite label and today there wasn't even a delivery attempt. The package was sent straight to the post office and a notice card was left a couple of hours later. Needless to say that no one will pick up the package since the recipient isn't even in Canada. I just chatted with a Canada Post employee and they told me that they can't arrange for a new delivery.
The situation is beyond ridiculous...
marnotom!
·11 months agoHuh? The recipient for the package as addressed would be the eIS hub in Canada, wouldn't it?
For residential shipments, the person picking up the package from the post office (or outlet) has to have identification that matches the address on the package. The name on the package doesn't matter. The address does.
I'm not sure how this works for packages sent to a business.

If it is a business address and it happens to be closed for whatever reason....holiday...closed for inventory...death in the family....they just deliver the next business days. Being carded sounds fishy.

·11 months agoI very much doubt that they will deliver the next day in my case. Here is a screenshot of the tracking information
ilikehockeyjerseys
·11 months agoI wouldn't worry. That tracking looks like what you see when an item is sent to a PO Box. The notice card is sitting in their PO Box, not in the box at the building.
I suspect based on that tracking that they have a PO Box that their packages are forwarded to, or some sort of arrangement to have everything forwarded to a post office for pickup.
When I get a return or if I order something to my PO Box, it looks similar to that on the tracking.
Certainly, keep people posted about what happens, but I wouldn't worry too much.

·11 months agoI work at a business, and nothing is every carded. If we have a snow day, they deliver the following day.
When I worked at a retail postal outlet we had items that were carded, generally for small businesses that were delivered to by letter carrier (and didn't get much mail). If they were closed, their package would get carded, but it's not common.
I don't remember what we required for them to pick stuff up, usually they had some proof of being at the business at that address (like other mail, utility bills, business cards). We didn't get carded mail for very many businesses, and lots of people were running businesses out of their homes/apartments (where stuff would be carded), so it wasn't a frequent issue to encounter.

When I worked at business(s) they got regular scheduled mail delivery. If they had volume they had scheduled pick ups or a lock box depending on hours for outgoing. The only CP tentative rumour/suggestion was reduced home deliveryv and letting the rest of Canada enjoy community mailboxes. Apts/condos should still get regular mail delivery. Maybe just less often. If businesses had to pick up their mail there would be a major uproar. (Business mail is still CP's bread and butter.)

·11 months agoI had a phone call today from someone at ebay re EIS (I opted out). They were checking in about the program and wanted my feedback.
The call was over very quickly (3 mins max) after i basiclly said, I use lettermail in Canada, my customers in Canada are not about to start paying more to ship items in Canada with tracking becasue I need to meet that general requirement to use EIS and be protected
I also said I can mail directly to my customers cheaper then the EIS program (since what I sell is going through as tariff free)
I did suggest that they need to have an option on listings for sellers who do use lettermail to have a checkbox or soemthing to say charge this tracked price to people who are outside of Canada.
the guy said I was not the first person to bring up these concerns with the program in Canada.

·11 months agoWhere were you able to find that “general requirement,” @regs43? regs43
·11 months agoTo be protected you need tracking, it was in one of the emails or a question someone asked and got areply from the eIS program (may have been in a different group). You can send stuff lettermail but there will be no proof it arrives to the Hub so not sure how well thats going to go.
marnotom!
·11 months agoSo, pretty much the same as with a direct shipment, then. There’s no actual requirement to use tracking / delivery confirmation on a shipment to the hub, but if you want the area below your tailbone covered in the event it disappears after it’s accepted at the hub, you should have it.
byto253
·11 months agoBig difference between the average Canadian seller and US seller is that out of neccessity Canadian sellers have dealt with international shipping all the time. Most US sellers sell internally and zippo interest in dealing with any international paperwork - that is not a criticism as most Canadians would do the same under those circumstances.
It just means Canadian sellers are not intimidated on going it alone without EIS for US shipments. It sounds like eBay was expecting Canadian reaction to be the same as in the US without considering the differences.

·1 year agoThe buyer pays your domestic rate combined with eBay's international rate. They also pay any import fees.
There are two issues with shipping to the USA after the changes in the import laws.
1) Sellers have no way to collect import fees + added complications with DDP shipping.
2) Items are now more expensive for US buyers. Making them less likely to buy. Instead of spending $7-$20 CAD on a discounted Tracked Packet label, they now have to pay shipping fees along with (in some cases) expensive import fees.
eIS solves #1. Anybody can ship internationally with zero knowledge about how to do so. They just need to accurately measure their item and include the proper COI.
It does not solve #2. Unless you sell items that are exempt from duties/tariffs, and you have a shipping service that can successfully declare and ship them as such (Stallion?), you're not getting the US market back. You might get a small amount of buyers from the US market, but it's not going to be like before.
I think the most optimistic view of the eIS program is that opening up additional international destinations might help offset (some) of the loss of US business. A large range of sellers were not previously shipping internationally. I don't think anybody realistically expects to get back the same volume of US business they had before. For most sellers, that's over with, even with the eIS program.
rroader41

·11 months agoKeep in mind, @rroader41, that you don't have to offer eIS exclusively. If you're willing to use a direct shipping method for your non-Canadian sales, you can, and your buyers can choose between that and eIS when they make their purchase.
From what I've seen so far, eIS shipping charges are slightly less expensive than Canada Post's non-commercial rates. It's when the domestic shipping charge is added to the eIS charges that things start looking really stupid.
mrdutch1001
·1 year agoApparently you don't understand how an eIS shipping program works....Exactly who did you expect to pay that shipping?? Just as USA sellers have to pay the shipping to the eIS Hub in the USA, Canadian sellers will have to do likewiseto the Canadian eIS Hub for the eIS shipping program here in Canada !
marnotom!
·1 year agoBut the sellers pay for the shipping from what the buyer pays them and eIS. In essence, from the seller’s perspective, they’re getting paid for a domestic sale and shipping to a domestic address.

·1 year ago"But the sellers pay for the shipping from what the buyer pays them and eIS. In essence, from the seller’s perspective, they’re getting paid for a domestic sale and shipping to a domestic address."
Yes of course.... but there is more to eIS shipping than just the "domestic shipping",m so a seller has to accommodate for ALL shipping costs and those are passed on to the buyer and we all know how well Canadian buyers like that USA eIS shipping program, don't we?!!!
marnotom!
·1 year agoJudging by what I’ve seen on the .ca boards and the .com boards, the subject of eIS’s shipping payment split between the seller and eBay appears to be one of the poorest understood aspects of the service, both by buyers—who don’t understand why eIS shipping charges can be so pricey—and sellers—who don’t understand why they were paid so little for an international shipment.
I think it’s great that a seller is trying to figure out how this all works before they get knee-deep into it and that they know what they don’t know and that they’re asking how this part of the service works. Isn’t this why these discussion boards are here in the first place?

Anyone sitting on edge of seat expecting prompt followup....your patience will be required. You might be better off ordering a copy of Great Expectations by Canada Post.
The big question is when buyers see the difference for shipping with eIS at check out how many will run for the hills vs complete the transaction???
flipistics
·11 months agoI think you're asking the wrong question. The one you should be asking is how many buyers WON'T run for the hills. Right now, for many people, they're not selling to the USA at all. Whatever percentage of buyers do complete the purchase should be seen as extra sales (and lower risk ones at that).
marnotom!
·11 months agoSurely that’s an issue for US sellers using the .com site’s version of eIS too, though?
ilikehockeyjerseys
·1 year agoThe buyer is billed for both your domestic rate and the eIS international rate. Therefore, the buyer pays the shipping to the eIS hub. That's part of why eIS is so expensive if you've ever bought something from the USA using the program. The portion for the domestic rate is passed on to you so that you can purchase domestic shipping. eBay keeps the portion for the international shipping since they purchase the label.
If you sell to an actual customer living in Toronto, or the eIS in Toronto, it's the same thing. The customer paid your Canadian shipping rate, and you ship to a Canadian address with your chosen carrier using the funds that were provided to you by the customer.
The only possible issue I see people encountering will be for items that are set up to ship lettermail within Canada. If the eIS hub requires tracking, and if eBay penalizes sellers for not getting their items to the eIS hub on time, there are going to be major issues where people have items with a $3-$5 budget for shipping, but require a $10-$20 tracked label.
This was discussed in a previous thread, and the conclusion that posters came to was that they should at the very least add eIS as a new section in the provincial rate tables, so that sellers who offer "free lettermail" shipping can ensure that eIS customers are charged the appropriate amount for tracked shipping.
marnotom!
·1 year agoI can't see anything in the eIS Canada Seller Terms and Conditions that states that a trackable shipping method to the hub is required, only that upon eBay’s notice that the Buyer has paid for an item(s), you will promptly deliver the EIS Item(s) to the Canadian Shipping Hub address provided to you in accordance with your listing.
ilikehockeyjerseys
·1 year agoI am only speculating. I assume that eBay will not explicitly require tracking, but I wonder if there might be penalties if you fail to get multiple items to the eIS hub. That would create a soft requirement for tracking.
We don't get issued defects or penalties for untracked lettermail INRs that are refunded. So sending untracked directly to a Canadian customer poses no liability to the health of our account. My question would be, if we send untracked to the hub and Canada Post fails to deliver it, will there be penalties such as defects or possibly being removed from the eIS program?

If the eIS hub requires tracking,
Which it is likely to, because there will be another label attached on arrival, and I would guess that the new label and the shipment are matched by the domestic tracking number.
and if eBay penalizes sellers for not getting their items to the eIS hub on time,
Which makes Proof of Delivery less important than eIS being unable to attach the shipment to the international shipping label.
They depend on each other, is my guess.

·11 months agoFor all intents and purposes this is a domestic transaction. We would not be sending Letter-post internationally.
