I had someone try to buy an item from the US. EIS is ON. They say it shows I do not ship US. I can't seem to find any errors in my shipping policies.. any thoughts?

·8 months agoShipping cost is often double or triple the usual cost of national postal service/ 3rd party carriers.
Shipping time is double or triple the usual duration of national postal service/ 3rd party carriers.
They also confiscate many items.
I would never subject my customers to such an awful “service” and when I see sellers using it I avoid them like the plague. I’ve had many things confiscated by this terrible program over the years as a buyer.
Using a national postal service or similar 3rd party system is infinitely better. I can only recommend using the EIS if you live in a cabin deep in the woods and have no other choice and if all you sell is socks and paper plates, they confiscate almost everything else especially if it’s vintage.
Awful and unreliable program.

·8 months agoI'm convinced that eBay Canada is intentionally restricing the number of listings eligible for eIS in order to potentially control the volume of parcels to the eIS hub, at least until they have their workflow optimized there. That's the only reason I can think of as to why seemingly identical items (or items that there is no logic behind being excluded) are being treated disparately in terms of eligibilty.
I feel like they are really struggling at the moment considering many of my eIS shipments are taking a full week or more to get processed in the USA after having arrived at the eIS hub and having an international tracking number attached to it.
That's my conspiracy theory anyway lol.

·8 months agoRemember that this is just affecting shipping to the United States, though. As far as I know, eIS isn't restricting shipping to other countries on a listing-by-listing basis. Having said that, preparing an eIS item for shipping to the US is likely more labour-intensive than for anywhere else to which the program ships.
I think it may be a matter that the computer code (I really hate using the term "AI") that's assigned to "inspecting" eIS listings may be a little different depending on what server is being used to process the listing, and we're the guinea pigs for some experimentation that requires our feedback.
I'm not really following you here. As there have been delays reported with other consolidators such as Stallion, I would conclude that the lengthier processing time in the USA is something out of eIS's hands.
Or are you referring to the processing time at the hub? If that's the case, it might be that there are only so many shipments a week going down to the US and/or the carrier is waiting for sufficient volume to warrant a consolidated shipment.

·8 months agoI can only go off the tracking details on my most recent eIS shipments. Here's my last two:
Example 1:
Delivered to Hub on Friday Jan 9.
Processed at Hub and international tracking number provided on Monday, Jan 12.
DHL shipment finally processed in Mississauga 7 days later on Monday, Jan 19. So it apparently just sat around in Mississauga for a full week.
Still no scans in USA as of today (Jan 21).
Example 2:
Lettermail item confirmed arrived at hub and international tracking number provided on Wed Jan 7.
First processing scan via Asendia in Vaughan 7 days later on Wed Jan 14.
"Arrived at destination" on Mon Jan 19 - I'm assuming this is in the USA but there is no location info attached to the tracking update.
Still not delivered to buyer despite latest estimated delivery shown by eBay to be Jan 15.
In both instances there was a full week delay between the item having an international label applied by the hub, and the item being processed by the carrier in Canada.

·8 months agoThat's cool that you were able to provide info on both a shipment handled by DHL and one handled by Broad Reach/Asendia. It's interesting to see if there's any significant difference in how each carrier deals with shipments to the US.
I'm going to stick with my theory or hypothesis that at this stage in the game, neither carrier is picking up from the Sincro warehouse on a daily basis simply because the volume isn't there. Delivery time estimates for eIS shipments from Canada are at least a week longer than the Canada Post packet equivalents and those estimates are probably taking that lag into consideration.

·8 months agoI'm having the same issue with many of my listings. EIS is on and I have no other international shipping options, some listings include the US and some don't. One of my items (the brass bookends) is even made in the US so there shouldn't even be any tariffs to the buyer, but US shipping isn't available for this item for some reason.
I've noticed that all the listings concerned are objets containing some sort of metal, so I suspect the AI may be blocking these because of the duties involved with "exporting metals" to the US currently. I believe there are steep tariffs on copper at the moment, and brass being an alloy of copper and zinc, maybe that's why the EIS AI is flagging them as too complicated to deal with. There really shouldn't be any tariffs on used second-hand items if you ask me but that's a whole other story.

I have slightly over 2200 current listings. When I first got enrolled in eIS earlier last week it was showing a limited assortment of listings that were permitted by eis which made sense due to category restrictions. I tried turning off additional shipping options to block small packet air/USA tracked. Now it is currently showing 2107 of my listings will ship to USA. Assumption: Our blocks are no longer working meaning the system is allowing to pay for discounted shipping services with CP that are not accessible to sellers when they try to ship so system IS including those additional options to buyers when they go to pay. I have never provided UPS or Fedex due to concerns with eventual billing not matching what buyers sees when they go to pay.

·8 months agoIt's not just tariffs that are a problem, though. It's also duties. And those would apply to the brass if the brass was sourced from outside of the United States. Since there's no way of knowing where that brass originated, US Customs and Border Protection would probably not let those bookends through unless the maximum amount possible in duties were prepaid for them.
ultrasushi27
·8 months agoUuuurgh that's ridiculous. These are almost 100 year old bookends, why does it matter where the brass was sourced from?? I'm not importing literal tons of raw brass here, just trying to sell some vintage collectibles. Why is it so freaking hard to make a buck in this day and age... sigh.

·8 months agoI think EIS uses AI! And it can't tell the difference between a pack of cigarettes and an ashtray, lol. It's impossible to ship an ashtray to the USA, even though I've sold dozens of them there without any problems before. I managed to get several items accepted for delivery to the USA by changing certain words in the titles or descriptions. Several words aren't accepted: wood, sheet metal, thermometer, KELVIN, but it will accept K e l v i n, etc.
Some categories aren't accepted; you have to change the category.

·8 months agoProbably true about AI, but I think it is more than that. There must be a technical problem of some sort that they are unwilling to fix or acknowledge.

·8 months agoI have the same issue, and at first I thought it may have been specific categories or missing details but I have two similar BIN items for sale. One is Microsoft Office 2010 Retail CD ROM and the other is Microsoft Office 2007 Retail CD ROM. Both identical products in the same category, except for the Microsoft version. Both are enrolled in eIS. One allows shipping to USA and the other does not have it listed. Both are enrolled for eIS but USA is missing for the 2007 version. Why?
john_koenig99
·8 months agoCould it be because you list the 2007 software disc COO as Puerto Rico? Just a guess.
escstuff
·8 months agocould be. switched both to Puerto Rico (that's what it says on the box) . Will see if anything changes.
escstuff
·8 months agoI updated the 2010 software to origin Puerto Rico, and it has eIS to the USA/Territories. The 2007 software is also of origin Puerto Rico, but does not include eIS USA shipping.
Something to try for those having troubles listing for eIS to the United States, try creating your listing with the origin set to United State first. Then, adjust it after the listing is live.

Piggybacking on this thread as I'm curious; is there an easy way to check with countries your listings can ship to that you're using? Your messages seem to imply you can bulk check somehow (at least I assume you aren't checking listings one by one) but I'd love to give mine a look to see if I'm getting hit by any restrictions.
marnotom!
·8 months agoWhat I've been doing is checking a seller's listings on a laptop through the "view listings" link by their username in the thread the seller posted. Once the seller's list is up, I update or change my shipping location through a button or link at the top of the list in the upper right-hand corner. So for you, I initially had "Canada" and my postal code set as my shipping location, and saw a note in the upper left-hand corner of the list that 63 results had come up.
I changed my shipping location to the United States with a US ZIP code and the note in the upper left-hand corner changed to 21 results. So it appears that there 42 of your listings do not offer shipping to the US either through eIS or under your own steam. You may be able to figure out which ones they are just by quickly eyeballing the list, or you may have to do a side-by-side comparison with two browser tabs.
As far as I know, the only way to do this is with a laptop or desktop computer and browser. You can't do it with the eBay app and probably not with the mobile version of the site, either.

·8 months ago@marnotom!
Thanks so much for that, I feel like a doof that I didn't think of doing it that way! Never knew you could change the location filter on that page.
Been playing around with it all morning to try and make sense of the results, and nothing makes sense lol.
Initially I had a handful of listings showing they shipped to the US but with "Shipping not specified" so I tried to figure that one out first. The only difference between the ones with and without shipping prices (aside from listing categories) was the policies: my policies for under and over 250g excluded the US as a shipping location, where as my extra large item policy and my mousepad policy included it. Updated those policies to exclude the US and now they disappeared completely from my list of items that ship to the US. As I've seen others suggest it might be due to "Action Figures" and "Mousepads" being categories that aren't allowable through EIS but that seems weird to me for how basic they are. It sucks they don't show up but oh well I guess.
For the rest of my 40~ listings that don't appear when looking at shipping to the US they're complete head scratchers to me. Just like @escstuff the majority of my listings are essentially the same item (in my case 24oz plastic shaker cups with anime girls on them) that use the same categories, policies, item specifics, shipping dimensions, and country of origin as eachother, and are usually created from one of my existing listings via 'sell similar'. I've tried line by line comparing ones that show up for US locations and ones that don't and as far as I can see they're identical (aside from the prices, title and description being slightly different between items). It's a weird mix of items I had just recently listed (but not all of the recent ones) and a splashing of older ones that had been listed for a while. Ending and restarting a listing doesn't change if it shows up or not, nor does creating a new listing from scratch via 'sell similar' of an item that DOES show up. There's probably something obvious I'm missing but I'll be damned if I can figure it out at this point lol.

·8 months agoI usually sign in to com and check my store items to see what is showing. You can also stay in .ca and change the ship-to location at the top of the listings to a USA zip code, which will hide the items that aren't being offered to USA.

·9 months agoI have the exact issue (I am a top rated seller, with every listing having their Country of Orgin, they are small items, clothes, shoes, collectibles etc... and meet all the EIS regulations. I have about 680 listings, with 300 of them not shipping to United States... yet ALL 680 will ship to every other Country EIS offers. (USA is not on the list of countries I ship to for about 300 listings (Even stranger is that they are also NOT on the excluded list.... which is confusing).
I have one business policy, with standard shipping domestically and no options for international shipping, with EIS turned on... 380/680 ship to USA, and 300 don't..... how can some ship to USA and others do not if I have the same policy for all of them (Again all mostly clothes, smaller things ebay allows to ship with EIS)....
Listed 10 t-shirts last night, and about 5/10 wont ship to USA....
THIS HAS TO BE A GLITCH THAT EBAY WON'T TELL US ABOUT. I genuinally think that Ebay is doing this on purpose to slow down the bottle neck affect at the Mississauga Ebay location, where they send to USA/international countries. (NO ONE AT EBAY WILL HELP ME).

·8 months agoSame thing happening to me. ALL of my items should show up in USA eIS program. There is no rhyme or reason (eg. twin size duvet set shows up but the king size doesn't; red one shows up but the blue one doesn't).
The ONLY variable that I once noticed do something is that I revised a listing for a typo and, once revised, it no longer showed up with eIS. Don't know if it was a coincidence or a clue as to a technical glitch that exists.

·9 months agoCheck the rest of your listings, (as long as they are in allowed categories as others have mentioned) and see if some listings have the pricing using eIS and some which give the "seller will ship blah blah blah" message.. if this is the case then it's the same issue which many (including myself) have been finding and dealing with .. (we talked about it in https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Another-Canada-Post-eIS-Glitch/m-p/533428#M171328) I've reported this issue to eIS / ebay but not gotten a response as of yet.

·9 months agoDo you have the place of manufacture included on all your listings that you want to ship to the USA?
If you don't, the listing will not appear on dotCOM.
Not sure what happens if the US member is looking at such a listing on dotCA.

·11 months agoI am now enrolled into eIS and I see a lot of my listings are not showing up for the US. I have the same puzzlement as the OP. I can see no rhyme or reason for that. Withing the same categories (shoes, clothes or yarns are some that I noticed) some listings get eIS treatment and some don't. I'm methodically going through all of my listings and revising them and I can also see that it doesn't depend on listings having the COO specifies or not. I originally thought that it just that the change didn't apply to all listings at once when I was enrolled, but it's been a week and I still see a lot of them without the IS.
I guess for me it doesn't make much difference since nobody from the US buys anything from me anyway, they have enough of all of that inside the US and without insane shipping. That is my biggest problem.
marnotom!
·11 months agoAll 1079 of your listings seem to be viewable by the eIS-supported locations that I checked.

·11 months agoThank you for checking it for me!
It does look strange though, maybe I'm going about it in a wrong way? I check my listings from a private browser session with the US zip code and see a lot of them not having the eIS shipping option, only my crazy $150 UPS shipping. (I set that up for all my listings when I had several buyers refuse to pay UPS charges and I didn't want to close US sales for possible algorithm "consecquenses". So now I use it to see which of my listings got the eIS shipping, it's easy to spot.) Doesn't the fact that many listings only have $150 UPS shipping mean that the US buyers can't buy them through eIS?
marnotom!
·10 months agoI found one of your listings (Vintage Lululemon Scuba Hoodie) with C$150 UPS shipping to the States and changed the shipping location to Ireland, and eIS came up as the shipping method for that, so it would appear that there's something about the listing (and the others) that's making eIS a no-go to the US. Perhaps it's the lack of Country of Origin/Manufacture information in the Item Specifics section? The Import Fees can't be calculated accurately without that information, and if the eIS calculator is taking a worst case scenario for those fees into account, perhaps the total of the eIS total shipping charge plus the import fees is even more than your UPS shipping charge?
On a slightly different note, I see that the Blue Banner of Death isn't hanging over this listing. There's a more modest note in the shipping section of the listing now, instead. In your case, the note accurately states that the buyer will be paying fees upon delivery if they go with the UPS option.

·11 months agoI did find one listing of yours where the US is not listed as a “ships to” location but also doesn’t show up on the exclusion list, though. (The vintage barometer/thermometer set.)
lotzofuniquegoodies
·11 months ago@cjmcollectables
For the vintage barometer if it includes mercury it would be on the no fly list with eIS. Appears to be mechanical. If it sold with another item as an auction/best offer it could not be shipped using combined shipping as per ebay regulations.
https://www.ebay.ca/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/medical-devices-policy?id=4322
https://www.ebay.ca/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/hazardous-materials-policy?id=4335
You generally cannot sell mercury thermometers on eBay because they are considered hazardous materials and are restricted both by eBay's policies and by various shipping and safety regulations. Attempts to list them may result in the item being removed by eBay's automated systems.
marnotom!
·11 months agoThere are still many countries listed as ships-to locations for that listing, though, @lotzofuniquegoodies, but I’m not sure if eIS is a shipping method for these locations. (I’m on my phone and changing shipping locations is difficult.)
lotzofuniquegoodies
·11 months agoThe only issue on that I could see is if mercury is part of the assembly. It still would have to be a permitted item with CP/USPS etc. Concern would be leakage during transit.
As a side don't ya just "luv" the assorted nuances between app and pc version of eBay. Not a thing for me. I don't/won't ever use the app. Just not a fan of downgrades. Personally more of a concern for me between the features dot com has to what ca doesn't.
