Errors with Stallion Auto-classifying shipments
Summary: sapphyres-designer-jewellery posted about experiencing issues with the auto-classification system for shipments referred to as Stallion. However, no details about the specific errors or the context of the problem were provided, nor were there any responses to the post at the time of summarization.
So I fill out the products page, and tell it what HTS code I want to use. Then you have to auto classify to get it approved for DDP, and it provides you with a code, so I've been going along with what it says because that was what I was told to do.
For all my coins it's been giving me code 7118.10, it says they are for non-legal tender coins (the US often thinks foreign money is not legal tender, at least that's what I was told once by customs when I was importing them, legal tender means US money), so I went along with that.
Then I got one of my items come back with code 7118.90. I went along with that since it's what it said "coin other", and low and behold, no tariffs on this code. I did some checking with AI to have it explain it, apparently anything denominated to spend as money from anywhere falls under 7118.90 and is not subject tariff. So I've been paying hundreds of dollars in tariffs on things that were misclassified by Stallion.
I also brought to their attention they are applying Section 122 to 9704 (Postage stamps) and they are arguing with me that the 10% tariff applies to everything imported and "thanks for your understanding". But AI is saying that HTS 9704 does not have Section 122, and Section 122 does not apply to all items (they were mentioning collectibles are not targetted by Section 122 but I only deal in coins and stamps).
So it seems to be correct, if the coin is a token and not legal tender to spend in any country, then it's got tariffs and falls under 711810, if it is legal tender (which apparently includes IOM Crowns because they have a value/denomination), then it's 711890 which is tariff free.
